I have never posted a negative review for any other hotel that we have stayed at, and we exclusively book Marriott hotels. Upon checkout, I spoke with the assistant manager and was expecting a call from the general hotel manager on Tuesday. It is now Sunday night and I have not received any communication. We booked this stay well in advance and paid up front. Our booking included a two queen bedroom qualifying for a free upgrade if available. Online check in confirmation showed we were checking into a single king with a sofa bed. I called the night before to confirm that we were receiving a two queen room as we were arriving a couple of hours after check in opens as this could spell a disaster with our room being taken before we get there. I was told that notes would be put unto my reservation to make sure that this was honored. I called again first thing in the morning to let the morning staff know of this issue as well. We checked in at 6pm and found out that we were upgraded to a handicap room with two queens. The beds are really low to the ground, and the mattresses moved around on what felt like a hollow box. The shower enclosure was also different than what we expected but I wanted to be flexible and just accepted the room as we were unlikely to be placed in another available double queen. The double lamp between the beds was broken and hanging to one side. There was no kther accessible light in the bedroom. I immediately put in a request to have this repaired. Maintenance took the lamp and put a screw in the post to help straighten it but only one side of the lamp would work. The bathroom smelled a like wet rag hanging for days and we found a marble sized hole in the tub padding that was specially made for the type of room. The hole allowed water to collect under the mat and would be unable to drain after use. Water also pooled to the middle of the tub and would not fully drain after use. We immediately notified the staff the same night and heard nothing back. On day two we noticed that the coffee bar items were not replenished but didnt want to make a fuss. We had breakfast and coffee downstairs but never received an itemized receipt. On day three, we had an issue with the downstairs cafe as we were being overcharged for our items. We were told that the computer system had updated prices but that the electronic menu board did not. I didn't catch this on the first day and came back the third day for coffee and realized my charge was for a venti coffee when all they sold was a grande. Again, no itemized receipt was offered, so when I asked about the discrepancy, they told me the menu prices on the digital board were not accurate. This was frustrating but we went on with our day. We came back late from the beach, around 7pm to find that the room was half made. Beds were not remade, coffee bar was still empty, and most importantly, there was not one towel, washcloth, or bath towel anywhere in the room. How could they miss this? How could the bed sheets just be sloppily thrown back over the bed without care? I put in a request for towels immediately and was told housekeeping is very busy and that it may take 15 minutes or more. At this point I had enough. I complained to the guest services staff about our experience and told them some of what we went through. At 8pm, they are sending two rounds of towels and had the audacity to send maintenance to look at the tub at this time after it should have been addressed days ago. On the 4th day, while checking out, I asked to speak with the manager. He wouldn't be available until Tuesday but offered for me to speak with the assistant manager. I spoke with him and told him about our unpleasant experience and requested a partial refund for the stay. All he could offer were points unless I could wait for the manager to return. I left with the assurance that my issue would be addressed by the manager on Tuesday, but now it is the Sunday after. Again, I have never complained as I have always had a great experience with Marriott. I do not recommend this hotel....
Read moreSTAY HERE! We very much enjoyed staying at this property. It has many things a large resort would have, but on a smaller scale. We loved the decor and layout of the hotel. The employees are very friendly yet efficient and continuously working. The beach highway is about 10-15 minutes away depending on traffic. Destin is about 20-25 minutes depending on traffic in Destin's construction zone. We did not have the option of renting a house due to minimum amount of nights required and are very happy with our choice to stay here. Our rental car broke down and we ended up spending half of a day at the hotel and we did not feel like we missed out on anything. We relaxed in the pool and hot tub and sat under the umbrella's poolside. The hotel does provide towels for the pool area. There is a covered area to load and unload luggage onto carts and the only day there was a small wait for the elevator was Saturday. The dining and lounge areas are large and inviting. The only 2 things I wish were different about our stay our room was not ready until 5pm not check in time 4pm and the beds were too firm. The front desk did comp us a couple of drinks for the room wait though and the spacious lounge made waiting comfortable and COOL. I have seen other reviews note the room wait, perhaps more staff or additional compensation could motivate cleaning staff. A simple addition of a foam pillow top on the mattress would be sufficient. STAY HERE! You will enjoy it unless you are looking for a high dollar full resort experience at a small resort style hotel. There are plenty of places to eat and shop on Grand Blvd which dead ends into this property and on the main roadway. Here you have the option of going into the hustle and bustle of the beach highway and Destin (we did for kid attractions) or you can stay in Sandestin which is a bit...
Read moreI called a week ahead and day before to confirm request for a room with a balcony that has clear view of the pool explaining that we have teenagers that we would like to watch swim from our room. We checked in and were put in room 217 which is a corner room that overlooks the covered patio below and only a 12 inch corner of the 5ft end of the pool. We couldn't see the pool at all which was the whole point of making the request!!!! The balcony was also very small because it was in the corner of the building so we couldn't sit on it without our legs touching the rails and I'm only 5'6". I immediately called requesting to be moved, was told to hold and then told the only option was move to a room with no balcony or room with no pool view. What she failed to realize was that she did not push the hold button so I overheard her conversation with her coworker. They had a room that fit my request but was holding it for another guest checking in that also requested a pool view. So of course I called her out on it and was told the guest had done mobile check in so the room is technically unavailable even though the guest has not physically checked in yet. I asked could we not take that room since we are physically here and just checked in and they could give the other guest the pool view room we were given since we obviously made the exact same request. Manager gets on the phone and says sorry but the room is considered reserved if mobile check in is done so there are no rooms available to fit my request. Never in all my years have I had this type of hotel experience!!! Guest that are physically present usually take precedence over guest who have not physically checked in yet!!! Highly unsatisfactory customer service...
