They have some good deals for repeat customers, on their popcorn and sodas. The fake butter/oil is not your typical oil. It's actually good.
My only complaint, is that their "Big D" theatre is always blurry. It's not the crisp detailed image they claim it to be. But it's still a REALLY big screen and great sound.
You responded: Hello Echosix - thank you for your rating and review. We appreciate the feedback and will look into your words on the viewing quality. The shows are in 720p quality, as the screen is very BIG. If we find any errors then we will address those immediately.
I agree completely with the comment about the poor picture. This appears to refer to the BigD auditorium, based on your comment about the very BIG screen. I've been to the BigD theater three times in four years, and each time swear that I won't go back. The picture quality is NOT high definition quality by any standard. You state that it's 720P, which I doubt since the earliest digital cinema was better than that, and current digital cinema standards call for either 2K (1080p) or 4K. I'm not aware of any digital cinema projectors that were no better than 720p.
The sound in the BigD theater is excellent, and the seats and overall ambience are admirable as well and the best in the area. But the picture is worse than disappointing. I suspect the problem is with the equipment, either the projector (the picture could be brighter) or the quality of the lens. It's not a focus issue; the picture is soft, but not in a way that suggests poor focus. (On my first visit, after I complained, the day manager at the time went into the booth and fiddled with the focus adjustment, with no improvement.) And the screen size is no excuse; I've seen superb image quality on even bigger screens, including local IMAX theaters not to mention many good theaters In LA, where I lived for 15 years before moving here in 2015. (An earlier review from an LA visitor, since deleted, made similar comments about the poor picture quality).
Perhaps the management isn't really interested, or the solution is simply beyond their control as expensive updates to the projection equipment may be needed. That might not be a good investment as most customers, based on the reviews, seem more interested in the quality of the service from the staff than the quality of the projection. Perhaps they're impressed mainly by the size of the BigD screen and appear to ignore picture quality, quality that's roughly equivalent to what they get from standard definition TV at home, much less HDTV.
The 2 stars here are for the sound. decor, and comfort of the BigD theater. If I were judging picture quality alone it would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I really wanted to do the dine in experience at the Ovation Dining Club inside. Weāve never been here before, so when we walked in, we werenāt sure if we needed to purchase special tickets to see the movie in the dining club. We tried calling before we went (no answer) and on the new vision website, there were no details on how it worked. After entering, we wandered around and found the Ovation Dining Club entrance. I asked her how I could purchase tickets for Aladdin to sit in the dining club area. She said I had to purchase the tickets up front. We then went up front to the kiosks and purchased the tickets and brought them back to her. She said I would have to go see the guy taking tickets outside of the dining club. I went over to him and quickly realized that he was taking tickets to the regular theaters, which is not what I wanted. I went back to her and told her no, we want to sit in the dining club. She said we couldnāt because theyāre showing Rocket Man now and we bought tickets for Aladdin. Okay!??? 5 minutes before that, she literally told me to guy buy my tickets for Aladdin at the front and now after I purchase them, she says Aladdin isnāt showing in there. She then started getting an attitude with me when I tried asking her questions about how the dining club experience works because clearly I was confused (and so was she). I asked her if I could see a manager so I could have my tickets refunded because the whole reason we bought the tickets there was so we could have dinner and the movie. She rudely told me āIām sure you could, but not back hereā. After that, we found the manger and we explained to him what happened. He was very nice and polite and refunded our tickets without a question. The ONLY good experience we had in our very short time here was the management, but because everything else was so negative, we definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife and I saw Twisters on opening night in the Big D theater. This whole theater is a conundrum. The shopping area itās located in is very nice and was very busy at 6pm (our show time). As we walked up to the theater, the exterior was very nice and clean. When we walked in, I honestly thought it was closed. It seemed very dark, no one was in the lobby/snack area and just 3 employees were working in the general area. The lobby was very clean, but deserted. When I showed an employee our tickets, she said the AC was broken in that theater and they would gladly offer the next showing in a smaller theater that had AC. They said we could try to sit in the theater we had tickets for, but we could change if we couldnāt stand it. The Big D theater was extremely clean and well kept and the screen was huge. Although it was bearable, it was quite warm. We took our shoes off, rolled up our pants legs and put our feet on the back of the seats in front of us and enjoyed a very good movie. The other, maybe 12 people, in the theater all had the same idea. The screen and sound quality was top notch. If the AC was working, itād been a great experience. Although the AC was broken, the experience we had was pretty good. The employees were very friendly and the areas we saw were clean and well maintained. Iām not sure how many other people were at the theater that night, but it didnāt seem like there were many. This is the conundrum; this theater seems very nice, is located in a prime area, seems to have a good staffā¦but no one was there. Hopefully they can get the AC fixed soon, because Iād go back if that happened. I give this 4 stars because it was our choice to sit in the theater with no AC and I canāt complain about something...
