Important basics: The room we were in was very clean, the bed was comfortable, had a very large refrigerator and microwave, wifi worked consistently and was fast, and the check-in/check-out went smoothly.
Details: What's important to me are the basics above. If a hotel has that, I'm very happy. Knowing some details can help differentiate one hotel from another for value.
The room we were in (2215) was clean, well presented, large enough for 2. The colors of light green wall paper and mauve curtains and carpet tells me it was updated in the 1990s, but that's just fine with me. It wasn't run down or worn out significantly. The paper and curtains looked like they were in good condition.
The bathroom was smaller with a bit of old and new. The sink was porcelain and the tile was older, but both were in perfect condition. The bathroom door threshold was marble. Zero complaits. It was clean. And everything worked. The soaps and lotions were upscale brands and well presented. Four towels, four hand towels, and two wash cloths. So nice we didn't have to ask for additional towels like we do even in higher end hotels.
The mattress was comfortable. It doesn't have a plush pillow topper, but it wasn't a thin, hard mattress. Comfy enough. Four pillows provided.
The AC unit fan runs all the time and perfectly kept the room cool in this heat! Choice between high and low fan settings. This is fine for me. I actually don't like the ones that shut off and on. While they're quieter, the noise when it kicks in wakes me up. So, I prefer this older style than constantly runs.
The drapes kept the light out very well, but were oddly two different lengths.
The microwave was of good size.
The refrigerator was exceptionally large for a hotel refrigerator. Loved this! We kept two gallons of water refill jugs in there, plus water bottles, leftovers, and snacks, and there was still room to spare. No freezer inside, though.
Large flat screen TV. But we didn't have time to watch anything, so I have no idea if the channel selection was good.
We did not use the pool and hot tub.
Iron and ironing board, and a rack for hanging clothes included. Keurig included. We didn't use any of these.
Desk chair and desk. Alarm clock with a radio. Hair dryer. Heat lamp in the bathroom. Ice machine is outside by the soda machine.
No elevator to the second floor, so if you can't do stairs, you'll need a first floor room.
Parking was full, even in back. When I asked at the desk, they said I could park by the restaurant.
Needs improvement: Outlets!!! I travel with a power strip and charging cables for devices. But, the outlets weren't accessible near the bed on either side. One bedside lamp was plugged into an extension cord and had two open slots. It didn't accept the three-pronged plug of my power strip. I plugged in my phone there only. The microwave/fridge outlet had a 6 plug extender. I plugged in my strip over there. By the desk, there was no outlet available for my laptop.
Note: Upon check-in, there was a note on the desk about boxelder beetles in the rooms. My room was on an inside hallway and they said those don't have issues, but that the rooms with outdoor entryways, sometimes boxelder beetles follow people in. I live with boxelder bugs at home and understand this issue. It's good they posted the warning. I'm guessing this is a seasonal issue.
Breakfast is not included. They do issue and $5 off coupon for the Pancake House next door. We did not try the restaurant, though.
Across the road the Moab Diner. Excellent food, good prices. Great for dinner.
The GyPSy app for the Arches and Canyonlands is very well worth the cost. I paid $7.99 for the combo. It's like having a park guide in the car. I learned about this from the flyers in the hotel lobby.
For the cost of the hotel, I was very pleased with the room and...
Read moreThis is definitely an older motel that has been refurbished. The location is good, in the middle of downtown, which surprised me, because when I booked it, I thought it would be in the far away wilderness.
The service was a little disappointing as we specifically chose this motel for the swimming pool and hot tub. When we arrived, we were told they were both "closed for the season," which maybe they could make that "season info" more readily available.
No biggie, though, as I was given a second room key, free of charge, and a little brochure about Moab! Feelin like a rock star!
Vending machines are your only choice for beverages as the room doesn't have anything in the mini fridge, except cold air. There was an ice bucket in the room, if you like a adventure type of activity of finding the machine. Fun for kids.
The liquor store is across the street, if the vending machine doesn't have enough "hop" for you. Everyone there seemed really nice and happy, and they all laughed at every joke I told!
The restaurant in the parking lot " Steak and waffles" is great for breakfast, and it's basically on site.
Zax is a good pizza place one block down, and the Mexican food restaurant across the street, is also good and even after two hours, not a hint of intestinal distress.
With in a block of here, you can get booze, burritos, babes, and bagels.
The shower had a double shower head, which was difficult to manage, after the booze and bagels, but after some finagleing, it rains down water like the amazon rain forest.
The towels are kept on a rack, inside the shower, which I didn't know until after I got the double headed shower under control, sufficiently soaking said towels.
No problem though, simply move the towels outside the shower before you fire up the double headed water octupus, and this can be easily solved.
The HVAC Is a typical unit that sits below the window and has a great set of buttons that are blue and red to help you navigate the complex world of climate control. Once it is running, it puts off an amazing white noise like an idling deisel engine, to lull you to sleep.
We did have a TV, which was probably ly 24 inches or so. With the channels availible there is a good chance you too can watch 30 yr old movies, all inclusive!
In summary, it's not the Ritz Carlton, but lets be honest, it's not priced that way either. Awsome location, and priced at a fair value for what you get...
And when the pool is in season, it could...
Read moreI really hate to leave such a bad review, but it was probably one of the worst experiences that I have had in my travels. The front desk person is the face of the establishment and their efficiency sets the tone of your stay. I was on a motorcycle tour through Colorado and Utah for 10 days and arrived to the front desk person, "Nolan". I had all of my reservations made (4 couples) and had copies of the reservations/confirmations. I needed 3 kings and 1 double. I had made these reservations on MARCH 4th. When I arrived, I was told that there were only 2 kings and 2 doubles. We were with a tour group and asked for the tour group rates. He said that they had to be applied at the time of reservations. It was obvious that the whole group of 9 couples was there. He stated frankly that there was nothing he could do. I asked for the rooms to be together. He said that the computer chose the rooms and he had no control. We were as far away from the lobby as possible. Down on the back side of the Motel on a lower. two from our group were down there. the rest were spread to the far extensions of the Motel. I decided not to argue with this minimum wage worker and decided to write the corporate office. I got to my room and the keys did not work. He had given out our keys to another couple. when I got back into the lobby to get new keys, he was in an argument with the next couple because they had a room online for $129 instead of the "special group rate" of $179 plus tax for $205. Our entire group had problems with this person. The rooms were old and the mattress looked as though it was 50 years old. Glad to be gone from that place!!! Dont stay here. I stopped just up the street at a nice new Quality in and their prices were $149 per night. Needless to say, the tour company we were with has cancelled any further stays with this...
