My son and I have been exploring the western U.S. on a 4 week road trip. We've visited so many remarkable places and met wonderful people throughout the trip which included the beautiful City of Moab and it's people. Until, we met with just one person at the Moab Information Center. Never have I ever felt the judgmental condescending demeanor from one person in such a public position. I'm of Filipino descent, born and raised in the U.S., proudly served my country as a soldier and serve my community as a Police Officer. I continuously teach my child to be a proud American regardless of our ethnicity. The second I made contact with Peggy, I noted a stand offish attitude while discouraging my visit to the trails by a verbal barrier at every question without any other offer or advise. Trying to get information from her was like pulling teeth one tooth at a time. Peggy doesn't know what our Motocross or trail experience is nor is it her duty to decide what attraction we should enjoy for us. She withheld a trail book from me that she clutched tightly in her hand as I was simply asking about the Moab Trails. My son and I walked out and ended up gathering the information that we seeked from a Moab local with directions and a drawn map! I understand one persons personal beliefs is not a fair representation of all Moab and it's citizens. One can only strongly assume racial profiling and I suggest if you even look like a foreigner of this Country not to make contact with Peggy of the Moab Information Center. She has a hard time concealing what she feels about those of a darker persuasion and lacks self awareness ... btw, the MIC deleted this review from their FB page which speaks volumes of MIC lack of integrity when dealing with those who post...
Read morePeople working at the counter were European racists against Muslim people. I am not Muslim but care about the dignity and rights of all people. While I stood in line I heard a conversation about how Hungary and Poland are great countries because they are keeping Muslims out and Americans should keep Muslims out as well. The person working at the counter was talking about how people from Islamic countries cannot assimilate or be integrated into Western countries. I could not listen to the conversation anymore without intervening, and told them that I believe that their conversation was racist. the guy responded by telling me I have no idea what I'm talking about and that I am stupid because he is from Europe. I am also of European descent, born in Denmark, and I'm very familiar with these issues. The other European lady working at the counter, sounded like a German accent, began defending the racist working at the counter as well. if you are Muslim, or a human being compassionate towards others who cares about the rights of all people, this place will not welcome you. The guy's name was J-Manna. Update: Just looked at other reviews and it seems like they don't like Filipino...
Read moreThis is mostly a tourist stop for people visiting major national parks. Their main job seems to be selling books and souvenirs. They have info on availability of spots at Arches, Island in the Sky, Needles, etc., but have little in the way of useful info for campers and hikers. Unlike most national park and BLM ranger stations and facilities they don't have road reports and they have virtually no weather info. I asked a woman working there about posting the weather report, and she said simply that she doesn't print it out, with no further explanation. The only weather info is written on a white board. They day I was there it simply said "Hot." Some of the people who work there are knowledgeable, but others seem poorly informed. One of the men working the July day I was there insisted that southern Utah...
