Never been to Moab until today—should have stayed home. Found this place on Google Maps and let me tell you, the first red flag should’ve been the parking situation: absolute chaos. No real parking, no parallel spots available, just pure frustration before you even step inside.
Walked in and it was hotter than the devil’s front porch. I’m talking sweating-through-your-shirt-before-the-host-greets-you kind of hot. Took forever to cool down, and by the time I did, I was already annoyed.
We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, which they decided needed to be topped with tomatoes and shredded parmesan like some weird pizza experiment gone wrong. I scraped that mess off immediately. The chips? Tasted like stale knock-offs from a Dollar Tree clearance bin—straight-up expired vibes.
Tried the pickle fries, but they were half-burnt and had the flavor profile of sadness. Moving on to the “hobo sandwiches” (yeah, that’s what they called them)—the sauce? Disappointing. I’ve had better sauce from Arby’s, and that’s saying something.
Asked for onions and got maybe three sad strands on my sandwich. Oh, and mayo? They won’t even put it on your sandwich—you get a tiny cup like you’re begging for a condiment at a gas station. The sandwich itself was dry. I had to ask for extra mayo just to make it edible. And the price—$19 for a sandwich with a $3 upcharge for onion fries that were a joke.
All in, $80 for two adults, two apps, and two sandwiches. I could’ve had a better time at a fast-food joint and saved my money for souvenirs. The service? The waiter was either blind or avoiding us on purpose—barely made eye contact and clearly couldn’t care less.
If I’m ever starving in Moab again, I’d rather hit up the gas station for a sad hot dog before stepping back into this...

The restaurant was about 25% full (most of the good patio tables were open - the tables with a breeze and a view). My daughter and I were seated at an interior (hot/stuffy) spot. We asked to be seated at an exterior spot where it was much cooler and we could enjoy the view. Our new table was less than 10 feet from the entrance to the room and the spot where the staff gathered - we were in plain and clear view of ALL staff! We sat for at least 45 minutes watching the staff chatting, leaning against the wall watching T.V. and glancing at us while people all around us were seated and served. I was curious to see how long it would take for someone to stop by our table but my daughter wanted to leave. Otherwise, I'm guessing that we would still be sitting there.
Keep in mind that all of this happened at a time when all of the staff was standing around chatting and watching T.V. They were not busy at all! Several were shooting glances at us. It sure felt as if we were being punished for asking for a different table...no doubt in my mind that our treatment was intentional.
As a business owner, I've decided that if I have a choice of providing low quality service or remaining small, I choose small so that I can ensure quality service to ALL of my customers. I recommend firing every employee that loitered in the area watching two customers being completely (and...
Read moreZax Restaurant in Moab is a culinary gem that should be on every food lover's itinerary. Our visit was marked by a delightful culinary journey and impeccable service, making it a standout dining experience.
Food: The Zax Burger, a local favorite, quickly became our favorite as well. Topped with crispy bacon, creamy avocado, green chili, and cheese, it was a symphony of flavors, perfectly complemented by a side of delicious truffle fries. The Flat Iron Black Canyon Angus Beef Steak was another highlight, cooked to perfection and paired with a baked potato that was simply divine. My kid couldn't get enough of the Alfredo pasta, which was creamy and fulfilling, leaving us all thoroughly satisfied.
Ambience: Zax is a popular destination for food in Moab, and it's easy to see why. The restaurant offers a warm welcome with a host ready to seat you in its spacious two-floor dining area. The atmosphere is vibrant and inviting, and we were led to a cozy corner that made our dining experience even more special.
Service: The service at Zax is top-notch. Our waiter went above and beyond to ensure our big group was well taken care of, patiently explaining the various combos and add-ons available. His pleasant and accommodating demeanor added to the overall positive experience.
Cost: While Zax is slightly on the pricier side, the quality of the food, service, and ambiance make it well worth the expense. All in all, our experience at Zax was thoroughly enjoyable and we highly recommend it to anyone...
