Arrived in Clarion PA late last evening and after reading many positive reviews, decided to stay at this Motel 6. From the reviews, I was under the impression that the rooms were renovated. Upon walking in, I had asked if it were okay to see my room before purchasing, and the front desk attendant had no issues. I checked the room for bed bugs based off one of the very few negative reviews (there weren't any bugs), and the general state of the room was put together. I went back downstairs and confirmed the reservation. When my wife and I entered the room, she noticed that there was medium length brown hair on the pillows, on the already tissue thin see-through pillow casing. Additionally, the sections of carpeted wall were peeling free, the paint was chipping from the walls and ceiling, and the bathroom floor was filthy. I will say the sheets, looked clean, and the furniture looked like it had been wiped down, and it had a nice flat screen TV. Due to the aforementioned reasons, my wife is a stickler for cleanliness, and decided we were not going to stay. When I returned the key card no more than 10 minutes after having accepted them, the attendant instantly became inappropriately rude, and incredibly unprofessional by asking "So, the room was fine 5 minutes ago and now it isn't?!" I explained the hair on the pillow, and that the room didn't meet expectations with a closer inspection. After making 'tsch' noises and rolling his eyes, He retorted very rudely with, "So you expected 5 star accommodations for $45 a night?" I attempted to stay calm and explain that wasn't the case, only the expectation of a clean room, when the phone rang and he answered it while I was speaking - turned away from me and gave me the 'you just wait I'm busy' hand gesture. Standing there steaming, I was handed a paper which I waited to confirm was a refund - and he took the phone from his ear, looked at me with disgust and told me it was my refund. I parted by saying "Have a good evening." To which he snarkily responded, "whatever."
If it matters to anyone, there is renovation being accomplished, though none of the rooms can be stayed in yet. The work crews weren't there in the evening, I was told they only work during the day. I also asked about the prank caller from a previous review, which the front desk attendant said that he hadn't heard about that, assuring me that no one from outside the hotel could call in. (Meaning a prank caller must call from within the hotel.)
I have written this review to help paint a realistic picture of what the establishment actually represents. The most recent, no more than 2 week old reviews offer high praise, and mention that the staff go above and beyond for a cheap fare. In fact, it is the epitome of a cheap hotel.
For $48.06, I do not expect a 5 star hotel. However, in a dusty hotel under renovation, with no amenities (wifi, breakfast, etc...) I do expect clean pillow cases, a swept floor, and non-hostile customer service when coming down to report an issue with the room. I never received an offer for a different room, or even just an apology, instead I was just berated for my apparent 5 star expectations.
We ended up staying .6 miles up the road for $76 at the newly built Wyndham Microtel. They had the friendliest (actually) staff. It was spotless, had free wifi, and free continental breakfast. When we walked in to the Wyndham still mad and in disbelief over the encounter with James at Motel 6, our attitudes changed almost instantly at how friendly and accommodating the front desk clerk was, especially when after being checked in, we were asked if there was anything we needed, and then offered complimentary fresh baked cookies, hot chocolate and tea.
Hope this helps the next...
Read moreMy husband, a few of my friends and I stayed at this hotel this past weekend on Saturday for my birthday. We got a smoking room (255) and so did my friends. When we arrived into the hotel hallway that led to our rooms we noticed a white, power like substance on the floor in different locations down the hallway. My husband and I went into our room and the first thing we noticed was that it was freezing. The heater/ac unit was unplugged. We plugged it in to get some heat going. At that time, we looked up on the wall and saw a cockroach!! We instantly grabbed our bags, left and went back down to talk to the front desk. The guy at the front desk switched us to a non smoking room. I wanted to talk to a manager then, but the manager wasn’t available until the next morning.
The next morning we checked out and asked to talk to a manager again so we could talk about what happened when we arrived. The manager did talk to us. He explained while showing us a map of the hotel, that we should have never been put in that room because it was suppose to be blocked off right now because of the cockroach problem. I kindly asked about getting a discount for our troubles the night before. He mentioned that he would have to talk to someone higher up about it and would send my husband an email with a possible discount of 10%, 15% or 20%.
We haven’t heard anything back. We visit Clarion quite a bit, it’s a shame that it wasn’t made right and now we have to stay somewhere else when we...
Read moreVery disappointed with my stay at this place. Although the staff was friendly & kind, the housekeeper did not clean our room at all during our whole week there. No key card needed to get into one of the main doors was needed which seemed very unsafe and with my children with me it made me unsure if it was even worth giving it a try. As soon as we walked in the lobby the smell of animal feces & smoke was overwhelming. The smell traveled all through the through the hallway & our room. The beds were extremely hard and loud even to just sit on. We ended up going to buy our own blankets and pillows because their was only sheets that were also stained. The bathtub was filthy & there was mold all throughout the shower walls. Our room keys needed replaced multiple times during arrival/departure each time. The bathroom door had brown dirt & lord knows what else on it. The microwave was unsanitary & we never used it. The neighbors in our combined room seemed to be permanent stays because they had dogs that barked for hours and all through the night. After us already being in our room for 4+hrs the neighbors finally got back to their room, walked in and started screaming at their dogs for pissing all over their room and proceeded to abuse them for doing so, we heard the poor pups crying. Our towels were dirty & stained, we ended up going to buy new towels. After suffering long enough, we ended up moving to a different hotel near by that I’m currently rating WAY higher...
