Pictured Rocks Inn and Suites, Munising Mi, July 14, 2017
Pictured Rocks Inn and Suites is located on M-28 downtown Munising. I do a lot of traveling and stay in many motels and Inns. This was my second time staying here. The first experience about a year ago was a much better one so I returned with my daughter hoping I would have another great stay…NOT.
The staff was courteous and friendly. We were able to secure two rooms with-out a reservation. The price of the room was premium as expected for weekends. Both were for a single with a double bed. I asked for a senior discount, did not get it. I would have had to upgrade to a more expensive room before receiving a senior discount.
My first room which was located next to the laundry room on the first floor, reeked. It was as if the inside walls were covered with mold. As a retired re-modeler, I am familiar with the odor. I complained to the front desk and they were apologetic and moved me to another room.
The new room was clean and had no odor. It too had a comfortable double bed, fridge, television, phone and a clock radio. There was a table but no chair to sit in. The room also came with a wall heater/a/c unit under the window. There is wi-fi and no pass word needed. Since this was my second trip to this motel my lap top was immediately connected after booting it. It was slow.
The rooms are poorly maintained compared to the outside of the building which looks inviting but deceiving. The bathroom sink had draining issues. There was a big gap under the door and between the door and door jamb. I could actually see the hall through the cracks. They could have just left the door off and used a drape over the opening. That’s how bad the noise was. I could hear everything that went on in each room clearly. The noise from inconsiderate guests went on until way after 1 A.M talking and carrying on in the hall and then starting again around 6:00 A.M.
I usually like to sleep with the a/c fan on to drown out noise from the hall and adjacent rooms but didn’t make one bit of difference. The walls and bed vibrated when doors were slammed shut. I had a feeling that I wasn’t going to get a good night sleep and I didn’t. Last time I was in the Inn they had continental breakfast. That was dropped and they no longer have it. For a lot less money and even in better areas during this trip, I’ve slept in better maintained rooms, had more amenities and the rooms were quiet enough to get a good night sleep. No, I did not have a pleasant stay and I...
Read moreI waited a day to write this as I wanted to calm down and not write emotionally. My Wife and I checked into a room (nothing extraordinary- ground floor, queen sized bed, etc.). Upon entering, my wife went to turn on the TV for a bit.....nothing. We went to the front desk to tell them and they found an employee to look into it. He arrived and after pushing a few buttons, said that he wasn't sure and would get someone else to kook at it. A few minutes later my Wife was outside by our vehicle, and saw him leaving, walking across the parking lot. No one showed up (strike one). We went back to the desk and waited in line til it was our turn. It should be noted that a few times we were told "As soon as I check theses people in....", once or twice, yes I understand. But how many is acceptable? Upon explaining, they found another employee to look into it, with pretty much the same result, although he was much more thorough, changing TVs, remotes, cables, all to no avail. So... back to the front desk, and wait in line again. Instead of requesting more help, we asked to be re-located. We were told that the ONLY (key word) other room available was two full sized beds and would be the same price. We requested a discount at that point we were roughly 3 hours into this, tired, hungry, and yes, a bit frustrated. We elected to have our money returned to our CC account and left to find another room somewhere else. After being told there was 'no room at the inn' several times, we found a place a few miles out of town. Again, they were booked up. BUT... the Desk person said they had just received a phone call from one Pictured Rocks Inn and Suites saying they still had six rooms available (what? did five rooms residents check out?). So, we were ummmm.... misinformed twice by motel staff. If that attitude is somehow acceptable, what else would be? I'm not telling anyone else to not stay there, but Caveat Emptor...let the...
Read moreWe are so appreciative of the staff here. Mainly, Kelsey, who risked her own safety to rescue us and Heidi, her manager, who heard our pleas and allowed Kelsey to do what she felt was right. We will never be able to repay that kind of hospitality. My husband and I were stuck in the woods 30 mins away after a car accident. The tow truck was going to take the car and leave us stranded on a trail filled with mosquitoes as it got dark. We called filled with hope that someone would have the heart to help us out of the situation. Kelsey was so quick to volunteer. They came to our room to check on us and Kelsey even drove us to the rental car an hour away the next morning. We jokingly asked Kelsey to be our tour guide and she modestly remarked that she knew nothing about the place compared to Heidi, all the while telling us amazing facts about the sites we passed. She turned something that could’ve ruined a trip into a memorable human interaction that was so priceless and special. You don’t find this anywhere. Thank you Kelsey & Heidi, we can’t wait to see you...
