We did a 4 day road trip taking in waterfalls, museums and other attractions from Hurley to Marquette to Mackinaw. Love learning about areas and museums. The best part of this place is its free. The gift shop is half the building/museum and that may explain it. There were lots if great reviews on line so i expected more. Nothing really hands on for younger kids. The interpretive center in early August has no aforementioned inventory stacked in front of displays - the space was clean and filled with historical displays and our favorite - the rocks! Gift shop had a variety of local products, cute shirts/hoodies, ornaments, and jewelry.
