I was going to give this motel 3-stars, but just couldn't... Yhose pillows.
When we first attempted to get in the room both keys (yes keys) took an act of Houdini proportions to get them to open the door. Once in we were confronted with 60 degree temperatures. I have to assume they were running the A.C. non-stop to lower the dampness... albeit unsuccessfully. There is no ventilation in the bathroom, so all steam from showering just rolls into the room. This rendered a mirror in the main room useless (see photo). You could towel it off, but it would just steam up again. And before we leave the bathroom, I wanted to mention the old bathtub's low point was in the middle of the tub not at the drain. This guaranteed a standing puddle. The coup de gras would be the stained towels/wash cloths. It's always a joy putting these to your face.
After everyone had showered we opened the window and door to allow the entrance of dry air. The carpet felt damp at all times and was filthy (see photos).
Like I said earlier it was uncomfortably cold when we first entered the room, so I set the A.C. to "Heat" and 72 degrees. A sour smell akin to a vinegar douche was smelled. Just speculation, but I think they may have tried to remedy a mold/mildew problem with a vinegar solution.
Finally, after my shower I sat in bed chatting with my wife. It was at this time that I was wondering if I did a piss-poor job of bathing, because I could smell someone or something in need of a shower. It turns out it was the pillows. They wreaked of accumulated sweat and body oil... like an old dirty comb. They immediately went on the floor.
The entry door knob, flimsy shower head and temperature control along with the holes in the bathroom door all need attending.... Dust once on a while.
On the plus side, the spartan, outdated, hodge-podge of a bathroom was visibly clean... Although, the shower curtain smelled a bit like a used bar rag the morning after. The motel is walking distance to everything downtown. We did love the 5-USB charging hub with multiple outlets for additional chargers. The room had a Keurig coffee brewer (bonus), but don't hope for decaf. The beds were comfortable, but how do you comfortably sleep when you can smell other people?
If this was a $50-$60 fishing motel I would say you get what you paid for. Needless to say I would not recommend this motel for the $151 and...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place a 5-star review, but we did have one slight problem that knocks it down slightly. This is a little independent mom and pop motel that is clean and nice for what you pay for it. We did have a bit of an odd experience checking in. I was driving to the west of Munising when my phone rang. It was a number I did not recognize, so assumed it was a spam call and did not answer it. About a half hour later we stopped at Lakenland Sculpture Park, for some sightseeing and I noticed I had a voicemail. It was from the Munising Motel. I called the number back and the lady on the phone said that we were the last people who had not checked in and wanted to know about how long it would be before we got there (this was about 6PM in the evening, so not super late). I told her we would probably be another hour. She asked if she could leave the room open with the key in it as she wanted to go home for the night. I said that would be fine and when we eventually got to the hotel, our room was open and the keys were in it. Everything worked out fine, but it was a bit odd. Anyway, the only negative thing was that when we got to the room the refrigerator was not working. It was plugged in and made noise but was warm to the touch. We fooled around with the thermostat, but could not get it to work. There was no one at the front desk to call about it either. The problem was that we had purchased a bunch of fresh cheese in Wisconsin and wanted to keep it cool. We ended up walking across the street to the gas station and bought a bag of ice to put in our cooler, so it all worked out, but the broken fridge marks my review down a bit. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel. It is easy walking distance of downtown which...
Read moreRoom was clean and nice housekeeping staffing, location super close walking distance to super market, gas station across the street, 10 min walk to marina in case you taking a tour a pictured rocks highly recommended, also all kinds of restaurants for location took off one star because the homes right next to the hotel are in bad shape and seems like not a good neighborhood it gets better as you go to next block and more business show, the road of homes have broken windows and trash, we make sure we lock the cars and apparently there are cameras not sure that will help in case something happen we took our own measures. Our room had a Slight odor I couldn’t ping point but, very clean coul have been the products they use for cleaning, bed are ok, they take pets for $25 non refundable fee to wash the comforters after your visit I feel that is somewhat reasonable, we were in the second floor closest parking lot is in the back of the motel which make me little anxious however they were many cars so we felt that we were ok like I said the row of home immediately behind are in bad shape that didn’t make me feel good, the town it self is small and gets better as you approaches the marina, walking distance to code shops. Food around it’s ok nothing is open late be aware. They have good coffee microwave little Fridge. The key is a regular key easy to loose our felt on the ground and we coulnt find. USB...
