It's been said that you don't get a second chance at making a first impression. Unfortunate but true. I can fully understand and sometimes expect a restaurant to face the struggles of a hungry public during a holiday weekend. Staffing issues, capacity challenges, etc. But what I could not understand was the [type of service provided]. Allow me to explain:
My partner and I arrived for breakfast and was presented with a full house of customers. No worries about that - again, I expected it. We decided to sit at the bar area rather than wait to be seated.
We were greeted by a young server (didn't give her name). At first encounter, there was no glee to be found in either her face or voice. Unlike another server who waited on tables with her exuberant and infectious energy and laughter.
I had coffee, and my partner had water. We were advised of the wait because the cook staff were behind (no worries, understood), but while waiting, we were not given any utensils, and although the server was polite, I felt she didn't want to be there and was "disconnected" from her job.
When it came time to order, I asked for the biscuits and gravy that were on the menu, and my partner ordered the chicken tenders. Okay, good.....but not really. We were told again there'd be another delay. sigh, but okay.
When the orders arrived, my order was nothing of what the menu described. When I pointed out to the server that my meal was improperly prepared, she proceeded to tell me there was an option AFTERWARD. My order was missing the eggs and the hash browns. No apologies or a sense of urgency to fix the problem, although it was taken care of.
The gravy was too salty and had bits of bacon rather than sausage. And the hash browns had pieces that were not fully cooked. When we were done, we paid our meal and left. Although I loved the look of the place, the service we received had yet to be desired, and so I hope this serves as a teachable moment, that even if things hit a bump in the road, the least one can do is smile in...
Read moreWe were excited to try the food here. Walked in and it was a really cute place. The menu items sounded delicious. There is a sign that says to wait to be seated. So we waited. And waited and waited. No one even acknowledged we were there despite walking past us multiple times. A big group left and it took the busser about 10 minutes to just remove the stuff from the table. We finally asked if we could just seat ourselves there, I wiped it off myself. We got someone over to order and were told right away that they were out of multiple items so we had to choose something else. We ordered a skillet (yooper on a hot tin roof) without the ingredients they were out of, I ordered the cinnamon French toast because they were out of buiscuits and gravy, and we ordered the kids scrambled eggs with cheese and a pancake to share. They brought out the skillet and half the ingredients were in prepackaged cups. The taste was way off and it was barely warm. The French toast wasn't even toast. It was soggy bread with loads of cinnamon. The inside was somehow raw and mushy. The kids scrambled eggs were burned on the bottom and couldn't even cut through, the pancake was also raw in the middle and very mushy. My kids ate the cheese off the eggs and that was it. We ended up leaving without eating but a few bites. We went to the gas station after and got my kids a soft pretzel and they both told me how amazing it was. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. The service is lacking and the food is neither fresh nor...
Read moreBig caveat - I was a tourist! But overall, definitely stop here no matter the time of year / reason for stopping in. Now on to the specifics review: Good news, this place looks and feels perfect for a breakfast place! The vibe is top notch, with a fair bit of seating - it could be cramped in the On Season but I've been in worse bartop seating by a mile. The menu has variety, with comparable pricing to basically any other touristy spot, or even a more urban downtown. The bathrooms are located near the back door down a hallway, single stall, one mens and one womens. The whole building seems relatively wheelchair accessible aside from actually getting down the hallway to the bathrooms (it's an awkward turn placement with the takeout equipment and the end of the bar top). Pretty good layout other than that, and the interior has a great look to it (lots of local businesses are outfitted with similar looks thanks to a local guy, iirc!). The sad news: I thought the eggs were gross (flat, greasy, and a lil choppy), and the coffee was an acidic blend - it's a local coffee brew from a shop across the way, and their coffee is pretty good! Just not the blend here. That being said, everything else was delicious and looked soooo hearty coming out of the kitchen, plus the service was fantastic (thank you!!). I really enjoyed...
