A venue that we were unable to enjoy due to the desk clerk’s refusal to check us in. We had booked the hotel from our home in Australia 2 weeks prior to arrival and pre-paid in full. We had travelled up from our son’s home in San Francisco but when arriving at the check-in discovered that we had left our passports behind. Despite being able to produce credit cards and other forms of ID the clerk simply refused to allow us to check-in. We contacted our son and he was able to send a photograph of our passports and Australian drivers licences, but none of this was good enough for the clerk behind the desk. He demanded that we return to SF to obtain our passports. Incredulous and upset, we had no alternative so we returned to SF, a round trip of over 2 hours. Upon our return and by now absolutely fuming, we tried a second time to check- in. This time I was berated by the same desk clerk for pressing the desk bell more than once to attract attention. I did so because it made no sound and no-one appeared at reception. After a further tense exchange I was told to leave reception because I was “annoyed” and this was off putting for the clerk. I eventually left reception so my wife could complete check- in. Despite this the clerk announced that he had decided not to check us in and that he was cancelling our booking. I do hope that the owners of the White House read this and reflect on the performance of this employee. Yes I was angry and frustrated, but ask yourself why? We were in a pickle and we needed a helping hand, not a lecture on the policies of the hotel . At such times a venue should be judged by the performance of its staff. In particular the extent to which they can demonstrate empathy, initiative and a smile. Sadly for us the staff member at the White House possessed none of these qualities. He was plodding, unimaginative, self important and seemed positively to relish our predicament. He was watched by several new staff who he said he was training(!!) It is he who needs training or redeployment to another job that does not involve interaction with the most important people to your business - guests! I am happy to discuss this directly with the owners should they wish...
Read moreThis place is pure magic!!! Seriously, if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Napa, stop scrolling and book the Napa White House Inn right now! My husband and I (the bride and groom!), our entire wedding party, plus our closest family, all stayed here for our wedding weekend, and it was everything and more! I'm so incredibly grateful we stumbled upon this gem – it's like the perfect blend of a hotel and an Airbnb, giving you all the privacy and charm of a home with the incredible service of a top-notch hotel!
From the moment we arrived, we were blown away. The inn is beautifully updated – everything felt so new and luxurious, yet they've perfectly preserved that gorgeous, classic old-home charm! It's truly stunning.
But let's talk about the staff – they are UNREAL!!! Seriously, UNREAL!!! Every single person was so friendly and helpful, it made an already hectic wedding weekend feel so much easier. A huge, heartfelt shout-out to Sierra and Laura – THANK YOU SO MUCH! You two are absolute lifesavers! They proactively helped set up custom name tags I made while I was out at a winery. We also had a pool and pizza party for everyone on Thursday, and they went above and beyond, helping us set up, bringing out the cutest decorations, and making sure every single detail was perfect at all times. They even adjusted cleaning times to work around the bridesmaids' getting-ready schedule (seriously, lifesavers!!!).
And after the wedding? They helped us clean up all our wedding items! And the special recovery breakfasts they made for us each morning, knowing each night was a "big" one?! I mean, talk about going above and beyond what's expected! I honestly can't even list all the amazing things they did to help us throughout the weekend. To top it all off, knowing how special the weekend was for us, they even got Nathan and me a White House Inn wine bottle to take home and remember our incredible time!
Seriously, this place is a 10000/10 recommendation! We can't wait...
Read moreI struggled with whether to do a review for our recent trip to this hotel. We stayed here five years ago and it was amazing. However, the hotel has fallen off in quality and now it's just fine. You won't have a bad stay here. It won't be great either. It is, however, WAY overpriced for what you get. The breakfast used to be the highlight, very fun tapas style dishes, impeccably plated and delicious. It really elevated the stay and made it feel like a luxury hotel. Now they just do a breakfast burrito and a bowl of fruit salad. There are also typical bagels and bread for toast, like you would see at any chain hotel. It's aggressively fine, but incredibly disappointing if you've been here before.
The rooms are cute, the bed is comfy and the linens are crisp. It is an old building that shows its age, so you'll notice the doors and windows might stick, but the furnishings are modern and comfortable. There are ample extra towels, toiletries, etc in an area of the hallway that is very convenient, as well as a keurig machine. The nespresso machines in the breakfast area are great, though management may want to put up some instructions because a lot of folks didn't know how to use it and staff is light on the ground.
The devil is in the details though, and that's where you notice the decline also. Lights were out all over the hotel, the rugs could have used more frequent vacuuming, one of the chandeliers was crooked, the glass on a lantern outside was missing, etc. None of it will ruin your stay, it just made us sad to see how it is now vs 5 years ago. I'm guessing covid hit them hard. They are repainting the outside of the hotel right now, so the pool and terraces were closed. That was disappointing because we loved sitting out there last time, but it's understandable. I hope they are planning some updates inside too and that the place goes back on the upswing. It really is lovely there, but I'm not sure we'll...
