We had very unpleasant experience with Celadon. We were only staying in Napa for one night (it was Dec 21, 2019) , and my partner picked this restaurant due to the good reviews and photos. It was us and our parents, four in total. We ordered three appetizers which were okay, for main courses my partner ordered seafood linguine, I ordered lamb shank, and our parents ordered the Vietnamese noodles. Our dishes were okay, he did mention to me later that the seafood was not as fresh as what he would expect from a high-end restaurant like this. What shocked us is the Vietnamese noodles, it was a bunch of vegetables and a pile of rice noodles served on a plate, COLD! When the waiter put it on our table, it looks like something from a fast food place, definitely not worth the $28. What's worse is it wastes really bad. We are from Vancouver, where there are a lot of good Vietnamese places to shop around, so we can say it confidently that this tastes really bad and unacceptable. Our parents couldn't even have more than 3 bits, and they put their chopsticks down. I felt such a waste of the food (and our money), so I asked the waiter to bring this dish back to the kitchen and asked the chef to cook it into something warm. The waiter did, and brought back some stir-fried dish; it still tastes bad, but at least it's a warm dish so our parents could eat it. My partner and I thought about this whole situation, and decided that it was not the waiter's fault, and maybe the chef just didn't know too much about Asian cuisine. What got me disappointed is that, our parents and I had hot water as our drink, and all of our cups were empty when we half way through our main course. I asked the waiter to get us some hot water, which he did, and he did it ONLY with my water! The cups of our parents were just 20 cm from mine, and he didn't even bother to serve theirs! My partner saw that too and he was also disappointed. This is NOT the service we were expecting from this restaurant. Our bill came over $230 for that meal, for such an unpleasant meal. Will NEVER go back or recommend it to any of...
Read moreMy oh my. What a juicy, delicious pork chop. Fully cooked (no pink) but still tender and juicy with a little crust on the outside. The NY steak was tasty as well, cooked to medium. The polenta was soft and creamy and the rabe had a good contrast with the steak. It was our anniversary dinner and we each had a glass of champagne on the house and affogato (with candle) at the end. And a hand-written greeting note from the staff.
Everything else was superb. We felt taken care of, the service is good. We didn't have to wait for too long for food to come out. The chilled asparagus soup tasted fresh. Waiter was friendly, on spot and honest with his descriptions.
We preferred to be tabled on the patio as it had a more open and relaxed vibe; the inside section is more modern, nothing too fancy, but nothing really to gush nor complain about, it is nice. However, out in the patio, there's a fireplace in the center of the room/patio, the adobe walls have vines and plants surrounding the room. A single, old-world style chandelier in the center of the room and a bunch of overhead heaters for cold evenings. It wasn't dark yet when we were having dinner so we didn't see the room lit but I would guess the ambiance would've been even nicer. Highly recommended, for the food, relaxed vibe, and...
Read moreMy husband and I came up to Napa on thanksgiving weekend for our honeymoon. I knew I had to book a place because it was thanksgiving day our first night there. I saw that celadon had great reviews and liked that they had a thanksgiving dinner option, if either of us wanted that (however, we had a thanksgiving dinner the weekend before and picked other dishes). When we first arrived the place looked beautiful (my husbands and my taste for sure). They host was so nice and congratulated us on our wedding. The waiter was friendly and helpful when choosing our meals. We had a half bottle of the Sauvigon blanc, we both enjoyed. For our dinner, my husband had the chicken and I the duck. It was so delicious, it was hard for both of us to saver the meal. We were about the ask for the dessert menu but once our waiter came back, he had a glass of champagne to help celebrate this special occasion and the dessert menu. My husband had the crème brûlée with caramelized bananas and I had a gluten free Apple dessert, it was sweet bread with cinnamon apples and vanilla gelato. So delicious!! We both loved everything we ate. Celadon is definitely the place to go to when in Napa. Thank you all at celadon for being apart in making our...
