My husband and I are locals to the Napa area. We live about 20 min away and come often. We’ve stayed at numerous bed and breakfasts in the area and had high expectations for the Mcclelland.||||We arrived at 4:45. I had messaged the property the day before asking if an early check-in would be allowed and received no response. Not a big deal, there was plenty to do in Napa that afternoon.||||We walked in the front door was unlocked, we thought this was because we were expected. We walked into a dark house. No lights on. No reception area, no wine as stayed upon arrival, and not a person in sight. It felt as if we walked into someone’s home uninvited. My husband called the owner and asked if anyone was around to check us in. The owner was somewhere out of the area, and clearly busy doing something else as there was a lot of background noise on his end of the phone. He told us our room was upstairs and provided us the code to get in. Well, this is where things went from uncomfortable to mortifying. We are on the phone with the owner opening our room and there was a couple in the room in bed! After apologizing profusely and closing the door the owner told us to go back downstairs to a different room, saying that it was a mistake and didn’t know how it happened. We later found out that the maid hadn’t this couple into the wrong room. ||||Our new room was nice (the library room). They provided a complimentary bottle of champagne with an apology note. A nice gesture. But the room was not what we had in mind. The bed was comfortable, but there was a lot of guess-work in figuring out what controls did what. When we finally settled down for bed the porch light from outside lit up our entire room. After trying to ignore it and fall asleep, my husband finally got up and started looking for switches to turn it off in the lobby. With a few tries we finally found it and we’re able to go to sleep. ||||Breakfast was scheduled for 8-10am. We came in the kitchen around 8:20. There was a young man preparing some yogurt. We were not told good morning, not told to have a seat. Just started at awkwardly. My husband finally asked, “what do we do? Is breakfast ready?” He responded with “10 minutes” so we went back to our room and came back at 8:30. We sat down and again, we were not talked to or greeted, or even told what we would be having for breakfast. Just sat there awkwardly waiting. Omelets came out one at a time. Again, not a word. I had to ask for water, sugar, and a stirring spoon. I felt as if we were unwanted guests and an inconvenience to be served breakfast. ||||Overall, the house is beautiful, the beds are very comfortable, the rooms are also beautiful. The hospitality and customer service was just atrocious. We have never felt so awkward or uncomfortable in a bed and breakfast, and to walk in on another couple in the room we had reserved is an experience I will unfortunately not be able to forget. Needless to say we will not be returning. The complimentary bottle of champagne and discounting the room was a very nice gesture, but there were just one too many things that went wrong. If you’re looking for a similar atmosphere, but with good hospitality go around the corner and stay...
Read moreI am a true Angeleno and born and raised in LA. I have been to the Bay area plenty of times and have done the wine tour in Sonoma. But never in Napa. I was most looking forward to it because I was planning to spend some quality time with my close friend for over 20 years and this was her first time in in the Bay Area and I also wanted to support a local black-owned B&B business in the area. This was a quick one day turn around. We flew in. And Sydney our hotel associate took care of us from the start. Our flight was delayed from LA. Sydney was texting me from time to time just to ensure we were okay and if we need anything in advance of our stay. We were sightseeing in SFO a little before heading to Napa. Got to the B&B in great timing! And Sydney welcomed us by getting our bags and helping us settle in to our room, by showing us where things were, access to things and providing some amazing recommendations to eat dinner later on. She asked our wine preferences and once we were ready my friend and I explored the kitchen and Sydney had 2 glasses of wine waiting for us :) Which was a lovely surprise and great start to our evening. We went to one of Sydney's restaurant recomms Celadon! Which was chef's kiss. Once we got in my friend and I went straight to bed and it was comfortable and sleeping on a cloud. The next day we had breakfast and the chef and house manager took care of us and the owner had time to great us and thanked him and his staff for a relaxing and wonderful stay. It was a pleasure to meet him, his wife and child. So lovely to see a true family business. My friend and I continued to say that the owner did a stellar job of reinnovating the house but still keeping the architectural integrity of a beautiful victorian house (we both love old architecture). After breakfast the house manger gave us a tour and my friend and I continue to be in awe of the rooms and house decor and architecture. We both travel domestically and internationally aloy and this is at the top of my B&Bs that I have stayed. We both said we will definitely be back. ...
Read moreWhat an absolute dream. I don't even know where to begin. Sydney was a gem and was so welcoming upon arrival. For the most part we had the property to ourself the entire stay ~ she was kind enough to let my friends stay since my wedding was the next day. This made our lives so easy since my friend needed to do my bridal make up at 5am.
The chef, Andy, made sure I had vegan meal to eat before I left on my big day. I let them know I was vegan when we arrived and they made sure to get vegan options for me... that didn't just include fruits. I had the luxury to eat vegan eggs, sausages, etc. & I'm so grateful they cared enough to put that effort for me. Normally this is not my regular Experience. It felt very special especially for my wedding week.
The photos online do not do this property justice because it's x10 more stunning in person. It's also the cleanest place I have EVER been to. No dust, not dirty. Just a clean, beautifully renovated home with stunning Victorian touches.
I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you to the owner for creating such a peaceful, calming & beautiful place: there is thought in every corner of this building.. you can genuinely feel the care he puts into this home and for his guests.
Thank you for the memories and the...
