Can’t speak on staying at the bed and breakfast since I didn’t. I came for a wedding!
What a beautiful place to have a small wedding! The courtyard was perfect with the fountain offering serenity and tranquility.
The bride and groom praised the hosts and gushed about the property itself, saying that we ‘had to stay there in the future.’ And we may just have to!
There was construction going on next door and the construction workers stopped hammering out of respect for the nuptials! So thoughtful and classy!
If you’d like more information on Churchill Manor(like I did), here is what GROK had to say:
Churchill Manor is a historic Victorian mansion located in Napa, California, renowned for its architectural grandeur and role in showcasing the opulent lifestyle of the late 19th-century Napa Valley elite. Built in 1889 by Edward Bell Churchill, a prominent local businessman, the manor stands on what was then the original street of Napa’s founders. With nearly 10,000 square feet of interior space, it is reputed to be the largest residence constructed in the Napa Valley during the 1800s.
Edward Churchill, who arrived in Napa from Vermont in the 1870s, commissioned the mansion as a symbol of his success in the lumber and milling industries. The design featured elaborate Queen Anne-style elements, including a wraparound veranda, stained-glass windows, and intricate woodwork sourced from local mills. In 1891, Edward gifted his son another mansion, Cedar Gables, directly behind the property on Coombs Street, creating a family compound that exemplified the aristocratic living of the era. The Churchill family resided there for generations. Edward’s granddaughter, Dorothy Churchill, lived in the manor and married twice—first to Herman Hess and later to Mr. Ewing—hosting numerous weddings and social events. However, family fortunes waned during the Great Depression and Prohibition era, leading to financial difficulties.
Churchill Manor was the first property in the Napa Valley to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, recognizing its architectural and historical significance. It forms part of the Napa Abajo National Register Historic District, established in 1997, which encompasses about 300 historic properties across 29 streets in downtown Napa—the second-largest such district in California. Alongside neighboring landmarks like the Goodman Mansion (built 1872) and Manasse Mansion, it highlights Napa’s Gilded Age heritage. After falling into disrepair, the manor was restored in the late 20th century and converted into a bed-and-breakfast inn. Today, it operates as Churchill Manor, a luxury boutique hotel offering guests a glimpse into Napa’s past with period furnishings, gourmet breakfasts, and spa services, all while maintaining its status as a Napa City Landmark. This history reflects not only the rise and challenges of a pioneering California family but also the evolution of Napa from a frontier town to a world-famous wine...
Read moreThis stay far exceeded my expectations on all fronts! My friend and I were visiting from out of town for a girls weekend, and managed to book the last remaining room. When we arrived, not only was it a stunning view, but there was a complimentary, free and never full parking lot right on property. When we arrived, several guests were enjoying the complimentary happy hour wine and snacks and chatting with the inn owners, Brian and Joanna. Registration was very casual and easy, and Brian was kind enough to help us with our luggage up to our room. This was especially nice as we were on the third floor and there is no elevator (as noted on their website). We had booked the Howell Mountain Room. Brian was very kind and I was taking in the decor as we made our way up. Everything was so ornate and I absolutely felt like it was a blast from the past. The room was very nice, a good size (queen bed and 1 bathroom). Plenty of space for both my friend and I to put our things on respective sides of the bed. There was a beautiful armoire and desk, as well as a fireplace. Plenty of outlets, good lighting, no TV. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. Good water pressure. One thing that really stood out to me was how incredibly quiet it was in the room. At no point during our stay did I hear anyone else in their rooms, no talking in the hall, couldn't even hear Joanna playing the piano downstairs (she is very talented!) I travel a lot for work, and let me tell you, the absence of noise was astounding. I also appreciated a note about the history of the property that was in the room. A lovely highlight, in addition to the happy hour wine and snacks (cookies, cheeses, fruits), they had coffee, juice, teas, and water out at all times. And breakfast was fantastic! For the life of me, I don't know where I put the piece of paper that Brian gave me with the names of their staff, but they were also great! The cook gets an A+ from me. Saturday was your choice of french toast or an omelette. They were generous enough to give you both if you wanted, but as we had a wine tasting to get to, we opted to get one of each and split them. Sunday's breakfast was pancakes and a polenta dish. They were very good about trying to accommodate any dietary restrictions, just be sure to tell them in advance so they can prepare. We had a very leisurely time, did not feel rushed at any time, and I do have to say how welcoming everyone was. Most of the guests were couples or big groups, so 2 friends did not stand out in any way. It was a truly lovely time and I will absolutely be going...
Read moreLet me just start by saying this was my first Bed and Breakfast experience and I think I may have just spoiled myself. This place is amazing, cute, cozy, and everything you want from a B&B. We stayed here for LDW and upon arrival we were greeted by Brian, one of the owners, who was kind and is a great person to chat with over some wine! Joanna, the other owner, is equally great as we met her throughout our stay.
The overall establishment is clean and cozy. They have an amazing breakfast every morning with a unique savory and sweet option daily, which I would highly recommend if you are wine tasting all day. They also have pastries and fruit for breakfast, and coffee all day for a nice pick me up. Additionally, they have a “happy hour” with wine and small snacks which is great when all the wineries have closed. It is also a great way to connect with the owners and other guests, all while enjoying more wine!
Service was superb as our rooms were constantly clean and everyone is very attentive. Our room was cozy on the third floor (no elevators) with a single super comfortable bed. Bathroom is clean and updated. One thing to note is there is minimal storage; we just kept our stuff in our suitcases and was not a big deal. They also have a free parking lot. You literally feel like you are at home.
Location is walking distance to downtown Napa so feel free to enjoy all the great food! Brian is also a resource to know where to eat and what to do while you are in town. Hopping onto the 29 is not too bad if you are planning to go wine tasting!
Another small thing, but super convenient, is their wine shipping capability. We just filled out a form, dropped off our wine, and received it the following week with no problem!
I would highly recommend staying at the Churchill Manor. Thanks for an...
