Was OK. Rolls were the star, some of the best rolls ive ever had, but they should be complimentary, not $5, for the price of entrees I feel like the bread could be free. "Seared" Scallops could have used a little more sear, "charred" brussels could have used a little more char, Gnocchi was surprisingly overcooked given that the rest of my dish was undercooked. Raw oysters were good-ish- not the restaurant's fault, but there was not much meat in them. Fish and chips was just OK, worth $12 not $23 got 3 little pieces that was mostly breading, not crispy, and a handful of undercooked wedges. Cocktail I had was ok (Mass Appeal) but too sweet and too big for an Aperol and champagne cocktail, who puts ice in a champagne cocktail? being a former mixologist, I was too embarrassed for the bartender to even take a pic of it. I expected something smaller and more bitter. Service was great. Brian did a great job. Atmosphere was super loud, but that's not the restaurants fault either, it's a small shotgun type place and the table next to us were very loud and rude and ran our server to death leaving him not much time to tend to his other tables, which was OK with us, we are easy. Music they played was good, early 2000s. We didnt complain and tipped 35%, but we won't be back. Not too bad but not very good overall. I would pass on it and go to Brooklyn&Butcher for a true Downtown New Albany date night, which we love, and will happily spend $200 for a meal. I know it's the same owners. Good try though, guys. I would say close it down and focus your time, money, and staff on...
Read moreMy wife wanted to try Outcast for her birthday dinner. I searched for them on Google maps. I found location, menu and reservation link there. I made reservations 2 days ahead for 7:15 on a Thursday. They called to confirm the day of. We arrived a little early, because I knew there was road construction on Main Street. I think the contractor has their retirement bid into the project. I dropped my party off as close to the restaurant as possible then found parking on a side street. My party was seated by the time I returned from parking the car. We ordered drinks and DaSean gave us plenty of time to read the menu and take in the atmosphere, which I found very appealing and thoughtfully done. My wife ordered She Crab soup and hushpuppys for her meal. She said the soup was very good. I tried on of the hushpuppys and didn't find it remarkable. Her sister ordered fish tacos. She said they were good, but not exceptional. I had the Fish and Chips. If you open a new seafood restaurant, I will order fish and chips. I'm afraid OC went through the motions and delivered a good plate of fish and chips. For the price I was expecting better. I will say it came out hot, even the chips were piping hot. The sauces were underwhelming. They were way out of balance toward acidic. I have had sauce at other restaurants that tasted like it came out of a packet. The OC sauce is not that good. I believe the OC has potential to be a really good restaurant, but they will have to step up their game,...
Read moreThis was my first time eating here, and I was genuinely blown away, especially since I love seafood and don't get it much unless I go down south. First things first, that key lime pie blew my mind. I had to set my spoon down to take a moment. Every bite was perfect. Truly one of the best things I've EVER eaten. Creamy, tart, sweet, smooth. Wow. And paired with the espresso martini? What a way to end dinner.
The restaurant was reso'd out, but we got two seats at the bar, which I'm grateful for. The bartender was super informative and made some damn good cocktails. The Gin & Juice and Ms Jackson were awesome. Plus, she had such a welcoming and fun personality that everyone at the bar was comfortable chatting with each other like a family meal. The ambiance was light, fresh, and modern.
The food? Top notch. I love oysters but never get them unless I'm at the beach - but this place (plus happy hour oysters!) changed my mind. The calamari fries were so much bigger than I expected and absolutely delicious. I got the red snapper with roasted potatoes, both cooked perfectly, and my friend got the scallops (so buttery and sweet) and gnocci. I don't even like gnocci normally, and I'd get that dish next time.
Yes, we shelled out quite a bit of money for this meal, but it was an indulgent experience we wanted after a long day of canoeing, and damn if we didn't get it. This would be such a great place...
