Although the hotel isn't actually in the French Quarter tourist area, it offers a great location free from the smell and noise of the French Quarter. It's two blocks north of Bourbon Street and three blocks from Louis Armstrong Park (Congo Square). Many tour companies provide transportation from this location, there is a bus stop on the corner on the backside of the hotel and the trolley is two blocks away. The lobby was spacious and had lots of seating available for gathering along with a pool table. The pool area was nice, although the pool is not heated.
Parking was $47 per night so we parked at a garage a few blocks away for $8 per night. Check out spothero.com for garage spaces and fees throughout the city.
Upon check in, there were issues with my credit card. It was not the hotel's fault, it was Bank of America's. Cimmie the Manager worked really hard to try to reconcile the issue. Diamond at the front desk was super sweet and kept everyone in good spirits when the power went out city-wide due to high winds. The hotel generator kicked in quickly as well. Jabari, the concierge was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. I rated the staff a four because the housekeeping staff that we encountered every day did not speak. Although they spoke to each other as we walked by.
The hotel looks new. The room was really nice. There was a full size fridge, microwave, cooktop, and pull-out sofa. However, the bathroom was really small and the shower leaked all over the floor. This seems to be an issue with most of the new or newly renovated Hilton properties we've stayed in. The zero entry showers leak. This shower had a little lift to it, but it still leaked. There also weren't any laundry bags in the room or available at the desk. FYI, their laundry is card operated. A $20 fee is added to your room to rent a laundry card. In addition to the $20 deposit, you have to add money to the card to actually use the laundry machines. Once you return the card to the desk, the $20 deposit is taken off of your room. Detergent was available for purchase. However, I brought my own so I'm not sure of the cost.
The breakfast left a lot to be desired. It was served cafeteria style (probably because of Covid) which is fine. But the waffles were burnt, literally every day they served waffles, they were dark brown and crispy 😬😬😬 they crumbled when you tried to cut them. The pancakes were torn and cold. There was no pork substitute (turkey sausage or bacon). And despite me asking for pork substitute, the staff served me an omelette that had ham in it. I couldn't tell until I started to eat it because it was so thinly chopped. The omelette was not prepared fresh and there were no descriptors for the food. I realize in the south pork is everywhere, but your guests come from all over, the expectation is that you have pork substitutes and...
Read moreHilton Diamond Business traveler here. I have stayed at this hotel several times over the last 4 years, but never again. During that time the service has become nonexistent, and during my prior stay in 2022 I had a serious security incident during which a very drunk man tried to break down the door to my room. Only after I call 911 did the front desk attendant send someone to remove the criminal, with no offer of compensation for the experience. My most recent stay (4/2023) was so far below the standard I expect from Hilton Hotels that I'm reconsidering our corporate loyalty program nationwide. There's a lot to unpack here, so get ready: When I arrived I was forced to wait in the lobby until after 5pm for a room I had checked in for via the Hilton Honors app before noon, supposedly because the room was being cleaned. When I finally got into my room the sheets had not been changed, the bathroom was dirty with blood or makeup on the bathroom door, and the was serious damage to the wall of the room. The kitchen was not equipped with adequate utensils (one spoon, two forks), no dishwasher detergent and the cooktop only had one working burner. When I asked to change rooms I was told the hotel was full. When I returned from work there was no valet available to park my car, and when I returned from dinner in the French Quarter after 9pm (I walked) my car was still parked on the street UNLOCKED. When I asked the front desk attendant why my car was still parked on the street she literally laughed in my face and refused to call the valet until I demanded to see the manager. The reason for leaving my car on the street? It had been moved from the secured parking garage "to make room for event parking" - while charging me $45/night for said secured valet parking. There were several other guests who were also upset over their cars being parked on the street as well, and the hotel staff had the same attitude toward them. The breakfast was inedible (ham in a pot of water?), the oatmeal pot was not only empty but crusty with old food, no milk or cream for coffee or cereal, and the only non-meat items available were bagels and muffins. The staff's response was simply "we're out" of the items I listed, and when I asked that they bring out more the attendant disappeared into the kitchen, never to return. I didn't bother with the "reception", because it was evident that the lack of service and quality would be on full display. This is only the latest of many very negative experiences with Hilton over the past year, but this is by far the worst. There are plenty of other hotels in the area that provide far superior service to the Homewood Suites French Quarter New Orleans, save yourself the risk and hassle and choose another hotel for your French Quarter...
Read moreWe had a shocking experience at this property…. Michelle - helpfull When we arrived at 06:00 after a through the night drive and Ariel on the front desk made us wait on the street for 10mins as you need to be let inside and she ‘didnt think we were guests’…??! I requested info on an early check in, Ariel was not prepared to check our reservation or entertain an early check in at all. She just said they were full and we should come back at 15:00 if we were infact guests.
We came back at 15:00 and were assisted by Michelle who was incredibly kind + helpful. She informed us that our booking had ‘been cancelled by management’ however she chatted to the manager and after about 10mins all was sorted. No one bothered to contact us by any means. Not sure what the cancellation was about as no info was given. I asked about the early check in and was informed that there was capacity for an early check in and there is infact an early check in request list we could have been placed on - pity Ariel didnt care much….
The Pool was cloudy + filthy with clumps of hair + a floating plaster - yuk! There was broken glass on the floor which my husband accidentally stepped on and cut his foot! We were required to complete and incident report + I requested for cleaning of the pool and area howevero for the 3 days we were there, it was never done (same broken glass there as well as hair and plasters…). No check up with us either even after reporting the incident.
The Room was comfy + spacious with a lovely little kitchen. No soap in the bathrooms + we requested but never came. Cutlery + crockery in the kitchen only for 2pax and all mismatched but served the purpose. Pull out couch is not comfortable at all with bare springs in the mattress. We requested an additional mattress which didnt come. After a 2nd visit to the front desk we met Dave the maintenance manager who brought an additional mattress for us
Parking is $54 per night which no one mentioned at all in the booking process. When asked where else you can park, no suggestions given. You can park on the street for free from 12noon until 08:00 or across the road for $23 per day Valets were shocking - not keen to help with anything - the gentleman sat in the corner of the hotel lobby eating his take out while guests stood and waited for him to get their car….
Passage carpets are very dirty + dont smell good at all.
Fitness centre nice + clean
Only 1 washer and 2 dryers working out of 6
Breakfast has good variety
Coffee station only hot at breakfast, rest of the time its there but cold
Not a very safe neighborhood…. And not as close to town as stated.
Would not recommend and will not be back as there are many great places to stay...
