My husband and I had about 45 minutes for a quick stop at this museum and goodness was it fun. The display room is not large but the Mardi Gras costumes are fabulous and very cool to view upclose with a flashlight. Since we were the only two in the building, we were enthusiastically welcomed into their costume collection and the gentleman working even picked out a dress for me to try on, which I HAD to finish the look with a headdress. We had fun trying on a few other costume accessories, taking photos, and hearing stories about the traditions in NOLA. Loved it all!

Madri Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture is a really fun and friendly place to visit while in New Orleans. Staff is very helpful. Lots of very fancy costumes. You can put on some of these and take pictures. We took our grandchildren and they enjoyed themselves.

We really enjoyed the tour here! The tour guide, Mr. Carl Mack was very knowledgeable about the history of Mardi Gras, and very entertaining in his discussion of it. Many beautiful costumes there to see up close, the pictures don't really capture them well. There's also a costume closet where guests can try on different gowns, jackets, crowns, collars, and headpieces to take selfies in. There's even a royal throne to pose with! Probably better for adults and older kids rather than very young children. Tickets can be purchased in advance or onsite when you arrive.

I live right around the corner from this place, but had never been inside. I saw a Groupon online, and decided to give it a try. So glad I did! They have specific tour times, so that when you go inside, they seat you in a room full of chairs with the rest of the group, and the guide provides you with a wealth of Mardi Gras information. You are even allowed to try on and wear costumes before and during the experience, and we were given beads midway through the presentation. They then walk you through the other exhibits educating you further. It's not a large place, so once they are finished with the guided portion of the tour, they turn on videos throughout, and allow you to wander through the place on your own taking as much time as you'd like to take pictures, look at all the costumes, and watch the videos. You can purchase many things here as well, like dresses, hats, and wigs. I was especially thankful to learn about the Bourbon Street awards, just moving here last May, and going here before experiencing my first Mardi Gras, was very helpful. I'd highly...

As a professional costume designer, I was very disappointed by the museum and the guided tour. If you are looking for a long description about the history of Mardi Gras while you look at pretty clothing, then this is the tour for you. If you want to learn about the costumes, costuming techniques, or costuming/clothing history, then you will be very disappointed. The musem docent who led the tour knew very little about the technical side of creating the costumes or the materials used to create them. At times she used incorrect terminology while talking about fabric and clothing items. She seemed to be more interested in giving a long and rambling history lesson and it only vaguely related back to the costumes being displayed. The museum is badly in need of a good...

I took my family there while visiting NOLA around Christmas. I chose to go there specifically on my mom's 80th birthday because she's a lady that likes to dress up and have fun. And it was!!! We were let in to the costume room and could try everything we wanted. We found a queen dress and crown for my mom and sat her on a throne that was there! The picture was a big hit!!! Later during the Mardi Gras very interesting and informative presentation, our musician and story teller played a happy birthday song for my mom's per a secret request from my husband. It definitely was a event to remember. Staff members are super friendly!I recommend going to everyone that wants to feel a NOLA spirit in other times than...
