I came a few years ago for a friend's wedding and I thought the interior was so very beautiful. It was amazing. Great acoustics, beautiful art. It is the oldest church building in New Orleans, dating from 1826. It was once known as The Mortuary Chapel as all those who had passed from yellow fever, the funerals were held here. Now it has a diverse community it has outreach to. What I was really impressed with was the shrine to St Jude, patron saint to the ill. One unpleasant thing on my most recent visit was two separate people hanging out asking for money for food and drink. I get that there are needy in the area, I would just think that those who run this church and shrine would take better care of them. All in all this is a lovely place to take a seat and reflect on all that is going on in this world and the huge disparity. Also the fact that Catholics are all about the womb and not actual life, which is probably why there are panhandling on...

Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel is a deeply spiritual and peaceful refuge right in the heart of New Orleans. It’s the oldest surviving church building in the city and carries centuries of history within its walls. The moment you step inside, you feel the weight of time, prayer, and reverence.

What makes this chapel truly special is the Shrine to St. Jude, where locals and visitors alike come to light candles and leave petitions. The atmosphere is sacred, warm, and welcoming—no matter your background or beliefs.

The quiet beauty of the chapel, combined with the powerful sense of hope and devotion, makes it a must-visit spot if you’re looking to reconnect spiritually or just take a break from the energy of the city.

Whether you’re Catholic, spiritual, or just appreciate history, this little chapel is one of New Orleans’...

I feel a little strange rating a Catholic Church Service but Our Lady of Guadalupe is really something special. The Jazz Mass is a real treat, lively, fun and I feel inspirational. The choir is phenomenal and the music is fabulous. We were lucky enough to attend a Mass with several young people receiving their First Communion. I cannot remember a service I have enjoyed more. Our Lady of Guadalupe is a truly inspirational parish and the standing-room only Masses attest to this. We attended the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass but I imagine any of their services would likely be just as great.
