I was absolutely disappointed with the room. It was incredibly small. As soon as you walk in, you are met with just walls. There is no natural sunlight and the only window we had was a view of a brick wall (so much for the courtyard view you advertised!). In addition, the room did not have even the basic amenities that you would normally find at a luxury hotel (no fridge, no large flat screen tv, no ice on the floor, no extra blanket, pillows, towels, etc). In addition to not having any extra towels, the towels we had were stained with God knows what (i don't even want to know what it was on those towels). Room service was incredibly slow (we had to go down 12 FLIGHTS of stairs to get our own towels). But even this was overshadowed by how SLOW the elevators were. We actually had a test, my girlfriend called the elevator and I walked downstairs. I had time to go downstairs, make a cup of coffee, take a sip, and run to the elevator only to find her still waiting for the elevator when I got to the top. Don't get me started on the bathroom. There was no vent, so whenever you were doing your business in there, the person in the other room could smell EVERYTHING! The tub was dirty and the water didn't drain properly. The room is worse than my own personal bedroom. Sorry, that was generous, this room is worse than my closet! I have no idea how this hotel was rated best in town by Forbes. It was just all around sad! The location is its only saving grace and even that is a stretch.
P.S. Why did room service come into our room even though we had a DO NOT DISTURB sign on our door, I...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Chandler in early Aug 2017. We arrived at the hotel about an hour before the advertised check in so after determining that our room would not be available we decided to wait in the lobby. Our first impression on the hotel was from the chairs and carpet in the lobby, near coffee area. The chairs were badly worn and both the chairs and rug were very dirty. This really gave us a poor first impression of the hotel. We wondered at that time what the room would be like considering the rating that the hotel had and comments we read from others. We were actually pleasantly surprised with both the cleanliness and amenities in the room. The staff were both friendly and helpful.
In closing, I would like to suggest that the area of the lobby where the chairs are located be updated with chairs that are easier to keep clean and the rug be either deep cleaned more often or removed. The cleanliness of the lobby has a big impression on hotel guests and this area does not do justice to the other parts...
Read moreI just had a quick trip to NYC and had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. The staff are exceedingly friendly and the concierge was right on when I needed local suggestions for dining. The front desk is prompt and professional. I had an issue with their internet connection in the hotel and it was resolved within minutes.
The hotel itself and the rooms are clean and well kept. The best way to describe it is a 'neighborhood gem.' The location is smack dab in the middle of Manhattan but you do need to jaunt a bit to the nearest subway.
There is some negative with the positive, however. The room I stayed in (the smallest they have) is quite small. This is probably the smallest hotel room I have been in. The room service menu is slightly lacking but has good availability. The gym is also relatively tiny, so I wouldn't expect heading here for any type of prime workout.
Overall, this place was great. Clean room. COMFORTABLE bed. FAST wireless internet and great service. Would...
