The hotel is in a very central location. However, hotel's website photos do not match the actual room we have (much older) and there's been drilling from the building directly across all morning (on a Friday, nothing else on the weekend). Also, even though the room (#609) has two TVs mounted on the walls, neither of them have cable, so I am not sure if this is an interim thing or the TVs are just for decor. We definitely felt misled with the photos on their own website.
Update: There was no hot water on Saturday night at around 10:00PM,. Loida, who was the evening manager, was very apologetic, empathetic and professional, but there was no solution offered and also no ETA on the hot water, so we took cold showers. We requested a call from the Hotel Manager Sergio, who never followed up with us. The hot water was back on by the time we woke up and we were trying to make the most of our trip, so we also didn't follow up to speak to Sergio - it also doesn't seem appropriate that we as guests, should have to chase after a manager to get an explanation.
Then Sunday night, the hot water was out again, this time speaking to Sigmund at the front desk, who was also very apologetic and professional. Although there was no ETA for the hot water and we all had to take cold showers again, he assured us that we would hear back from Chris, another Manager, in the morning. This time we were beyond upset with the situation, as cold showers are no fun and we've now had a total of three of them - so we did follow up. Chris was very professional and made the situation right. He was very professional and to-the-point, which made the whole situation a bit more bearable. Too bad Sergio was not as forthcoming and proactive with maintaining guest satisfaction. Depending on hotel availability for our next trip, I may or may not return to Avalon - it appears that would depend on what room I might get and also what Manager would be on shift during my stay and whether I can depend on them to take my concerns seriously.
For the record, had Sergio taken the steps to address our concerns the first time and actually presented himself as someone who cared or even cared to come speak to us, the whole situation would not have escalated as much, even AFTER the second night...
Read moreI first came to this hotel Christmas 2016, loved the hotel but had a few issues which were resolved, as I loved the hotel and so did my children I decided to stay here again Christmas 2018. Initially I was booked with another hotel for the 1st nights and then here. I cancelled the hotel and came straight to the Avalon for the full duration. I was very very disappointed. The lift worked for 2 days and then did not work for 7 days, lifts already small so it was chaos. I was on 9th floor and have a disability so could not walk up. The lifts still did not work!!! It was almost no one cared. Then the coffee machine did not work for the duration of my stay!!! The breakfast was OK very European, the staff (man with bald head) I found him very rude towards me. My children were ill so I asked front desk if I could take breakfast to my room and they advised absolutely. So I went to get the breakfast for 3 people. Asked the staff if I could borrow the tray to put food including hot drinks in tray. He smirked and said absolutely not and to take it all in my hands. As only 1 lift worked it was awful to get lift and when in cane it was full. I had no choice and took breakfast as much I could bearing in mind my right arm has nerve damage so already weak, the lift came and was full but I could get in, the woman did not hold it open so I had to put my arm to allow me to get in, I scolded my hand with hot coffee. Then my TV REMOTE was not working, engineer looked and agreed issues but did not know what to do. Also the sofa bed was terrible and could feel it was worn out when sleeping, again I brought this to staffs attention and asked if they could change or add a layer of something however nothing was done t was done With all this the hotel did absolutely nothing apart from give me a few days tax back. I had a nightmare with the hotel and unsure if I would like to go back. The positive is in a great location. I did bring all the issues to hotels front desk and was let down. There are other hotels in this area which I feel would be better like the MARTINIQUE NEW YORK. I feel the hotel could have done a lot more to rectify this, they were aware of my health issues as I went to see a consultant at the hospital but she hotel did nothing to accommodate....
Read moreStayed at the Avalon hotel during the holidays. The room was quite pricey, but that was expected since it was the busy season. Unfortunately, we had a really bad experience with this hotel. It took a few hours for the front desk staff to have our room ready. When we got to the room, it wasn’t what was shown on their website. We attempted to get a different room, but nothing was available. The attitude of the staff there was quite upsetting. As a business owner, I expect my employees to operate in a way that makes the customer feel appreciated and if there are concerns, those concerns should be addressed by the staff without being disrespectful. This was not the case at the Avalon hotel.
The continental breakfast was a joke. Literally a few pieces of fruit, stale bread, and cereal. Even the holiday inn offers waffles or pancakes or even eggs- not this place. They charge almost $20/pp for VERY limited snacks. There is no restaurant or bar. No real close restaurants unless you like cheap, fast, no so great Korean food.
Having your luggage tagged or retrieving your luggage takes a good 30-45 minutes. Forget about getting your car from valet in a timely fashion.
This hotel also seems to charge extra for just about everything. My bill was nearly doubled because of “hidden fees”. Normally I’m good with finding these things, but this trip was a little last minute and I just didn’t have the time to really investigate. Bad move by me.
Overall, this place was a huge disappointment. I’ve stayed in everything from a Quality Inn to the Mandarin Oriental in NYC. Avalon hotel was one of the worse...
