In my relentless pursuit of culinary excellence, I, Anton Ego, found myself at the threshold of PS-Kitchen, an establishment heralded as a sanctum of plant-based innovation amidst the gastronomic tapestry of New York City.
Upon commencing my epicurean journey, I was first presented with the Buffalo Maitake Sandwich. This creation was nothing short of a culinary tour de force. The maitake mushroom, an ingredient often relegated to the periphery of the culinary world, was here transformed. Its texture was a symphony of earthy robustness, each bite singing in harmonious concert with the piquant buffalo sauce – a juxtaposition of flavors that spoke of a chef's deft hand at the culinary arts.
Then, the stage was graced by the Chik'n Pot Pie, a dish that traditionally evokes rustic comfort. In this reinvention, it soared to new gastronomic heights. The plant-based 'chik'n' was a revelation, tender and rich, ensconced within a pastry that epitomized artisanal craftsmanship, flaky and golden. Every morsel was a sojourn through a realm of velvety, savory bliss, a paean to the classic, yet an entirely novel entity.
The denouement of this exquisite repast was the Brownie with Ice Cream. The brownie, a confection often underestimated, here was the embodiment of chocolate in its most unadulterated form. It was a paean to the cocoa bean, dense, enigmatic, whispering tales of distant lands. The accompanying ice cream, a study in creamy opulence, provided a sublime counterpoint to the chocolate's intensity. Together, they did not merely conclude the meal but stood as a testament to the zenith of vegan dessert craft.
In conclusion, PS-Kitchen transcends the conventional boundaries of vegan cuisine. It is a vanguard in the culinary arts, demonstrating with each dish the boundless potentialities of plant-based fare. Each course is a masterstroke, an oeuvre showcasing the sheer brilliance of what can be achieved with nature's bounty. As I departed, it was with the profound recognition that PS-Kitchen is not merely preparing meals; it is sculpting gustatory masterpieces of the...
Read moreFirstly let me say that this rating is low because of the service and not the food, but eating out is about the experience and service is a big part of that.
So the Restuarant seems to want reservations, so made one and the process is seamless with text confirmations too.
Upon arrival, the hostess was friendly and took us to our table and gave us menus.
Within 3 minutes of sitting down, a server appeared and asked for our drinks and food order ... bit cheeky considering we just sat down and hadn’t been there before.
Eventually called him back, asked some questions and ordered the wine. Once the wine arrived (took a while), ordered some food.
It should be noted that there is no such thing as starter / mains ... it appears that all the food is in the same category ... just different portions. We decided to ask which were small and had those as starters and the bigger ones as mains, although people around us just did one plate.
Once the “starters” arrived, this is where service fell off the cliff.
First it was the fact that the starters were slightly cold but I wasn’t too bothered by that but couldn’t find anyone to come over so I could let them know. Once we finished, it took about 10 minutes for someone to clear our table and then our waiter said ... “want desert”, ermmm no man ... still need mains.
So he went to find those and arrived with them after a while they appeared, slightly cold too. Anyways, asked for salt and pepper as it needed it. It didn’t arrive, was half way into my meal and asked another server, she brought it over.
As I was finishing my dinner, another salt and pepper set arrived. Made me laugh but honestly, WTF!
Anyways, sat for another 15 minutes with empty plates watching staff clean tables around us but ignore us.
Almost had to beg for my bill ... but got one, paid and left.
I won’t be back here for at least another year; if they survive another year, it can only be because service improved.
Best meal was the Beyond Burger and the...
Read moreI found this place just by looking up vegan restaurants in Manhattan, it was my last evening in the city and I wanted something nice amen close to penn station. I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, the prices were what id expect for that close to Times Square, a bit high to be honest, I think if it were anywhere else prices would be a tad lower, but hey it’s Times Square.
The wings were alright, honestly lacking in flavor. The crunch was nice and so was the texture but I got my sauce on the side and I think they probably rely on the sauce to carry the flavor as opposed to seasoning the wings to stand out on their own. Some seasoning would have really made them a knock out. If I went here again I probably wouldn’t get them, at 20$ it’s a costly lesson to learn. The blue cheese sauce was alright.
I was weighing several entree options and asked what the waiter thought of the pot pie, they highly recommended it. I’ve got to say I enjoyed the pot pie a lot, had I not already spent money on the wings I’d probably have ordered another to go. It’s a nice portion size, The crust was nice and flakey and slightly buttery. The filling was nice and creamy, rich, and hearty. The presentation was great. I’d definitely go back for it.
My friend ordered the brownie sundae and as far as brownie sundaes go I’d give it a solid 6/10. Very chocolatey but perhaps a bit dry. It wasn’t all that warm or gooey in the way one expects from a brownie sundae. The ice cream was nice, but the dish overall felt a bit meh. I know this is a polarizing belief when it comes to deserts but I think some nuts would drastically improve this desert, also some fun caramel drizzle. We ended up not finishing it. All in all I enjoyed my meal and would go back for a nice vegan dinner/ lunch- their brunch options also look good. Some things could be improved, but I think that’s true of most things...
