We tried to get in earlier in the week but without reservations they said it was an hour and a half minimum wait. So we went online and made reservations for brunch the next day. Even having reservations and showing up 20 minutes early for them, and eating during the late morning, we still waited almost an hour standing with 50 other people inside the restaurant....in between all the tables where people were trying to eat. All waiting for the two people at the front desk to shout our name loud enough we could hear it over the noise. It was a horrible process and very uncomfortable for the guests.
The mind-blowing part is that it could be easily improved with just a little thought. A texting app check in would solve the whole thing. Send a text to let people know when their table is ready so they can wait outside comfortably or even shop at a nearby store. The restaurant would be significantly less crowded, quieter, and far more enjoyable, and the process efficient. Obviously, that isn't important to them and they don't mind the chaos and the discomfort their guests deal with.
Once we were finally seated, we waited another 10 minutes before anyone even came by the table and watched several other people get served that were seated after us. When our server finally showed up to take our order, she was obviously frustrated and unhappy and passed the attitude along to us, even though we hadn't said a word about our wait and frustration and were very nice to her. We saw her one additional time over the next 45 minutes. After waiting 10 minutes to pay our bill, I finally just shouted to another server at another table and got them to run our card and pay our bill so we could get out of there. The place also was incredibly hot. Even after taking off all of my outer layers down to just a t-shirt, I was still dripping sweat the entire time I was there. Unfortunately the food did not make up for all of the negatives. It was decent, probably on par with a Cracker Barrel. But certainly nothing special that would warrant the lines, the wait, the attitude, and the cost. We...
Read moreI am visiting New York with my mother and my 9-year-old brother, who has autism. We had been dining at a restaurant for three consecutive days, enjoying their children’s menu and the attentive staff. On Friday night at around 9:00 PM, we returned, and the waiter, who had been kind to us on previous nights, greeted us again. Shortly after, two young men sat behind us, and a man in his 50s approached our table (not sure if it was the manager or the host). He told me, in a condescending tone, that my brother needed to stop speaking so loudly.
I turned to explain that my brother sometimes speaks louder, particularly when playing on his iPad to stay distracted. He had only said one word louder, but the man didn’t give me the chance to answer and kept walking. I stood up to approach him, at which point he told me he would move the people near us, who had just arrived, almost as if we were a disturbance.
The same man later came back and asked where we were from. I told him we were from Chile, but I live in Miami, and my family is visiting. He then asked how can we manage flying with my brother on the plane because he has autism. When I showed discomfort, he mentioned that his son also has autism, which is why he asked. I told him that my brother does face challenges on flights but can travel. He then asked, “So, do you sedate him?”
This was one of the most inappropriate questions I’ve ever been asked regarding my brother’s condition. It made me feel judged and as though I was expected to sedate him to travel. I don’t understand why, in a restaurant that caters to children, we were treated this way. It made my family and my brother feel uncomfortable and humiliated.
When we returned to the hotel, I had to explain to my brother that it wasn’t his fault, as he thought we wanted to leave because of his condition. This experience was truly unpleasant, and we have never felt so exposed and...
