Where do I begin....Arrive early. Very good experience. Joana was great. She pointed us in the right direction for lunch while we waited for our room and told his it would probably be ready by 2. 2:30 comes around and now we are being told we don't have a room. We are suppose to be on the 39th floor in one of the two, queen suites with hot tub jacuzzi on balcony. They have on on the 39th floor and one on the 5th floor. The room we were to be in apparently had a late checkout. Possibly we can get into the other room on the 5th floor but not sure when. {Keep in mind, I booked a high floor-5 doesn't count}. Room 5 didn't have a late check out but our room that was guaranteed by 3 and it is probably not going to happen. ||||The manager on duty started out very nice but then she found herself stating things that couldn't happen. For example, you can wait for that room, we can take your luggage then I will give you a 20% discount for your troubles. That was nice. Very disappointed but to get into a room, we were desperate for with 20% off was something I could do.||||We get up to pay...David was his name, looked at me like he passed gass when he acknowledged the 20% off. Then the manager says that is only for one night. Upset, I said, can we move to the suite we were suppose to then? Then her answer was no. ||||Oh by this point I forgot to mention we have been up to our room, the door to our shared balcony has hardly any lock. In fact when the inch long slide bolt is locked you can just pull on the outside and it pops open. They refuse to move us. Even though we are getting very upset about staying in downtown NY without a lock on our balcony that connects to others. We call the customer service line when they couldn't help. We got Geri. She was pleasant but couldn't find us a room with a 2 queens. She talks to the manger is frustrated with the hotels response.||||The engineer they sent up to look at the lock said oh, it's broken and we have a replacement on other. He proceeds to show my how it should lock. Why? I don't know. I guess he thought because I was a woman and possibly could not understand!||||Moving on the next day, we get up and go about our day. Coming back In the afternoon, we stopped at the front desk to check on our room. Apparently Gisselle called and since they couldn't get a hold of me the transfer couldn't be made. Now keep in mind, I have given these people my cell phone and my husbands. I am a Gold Elite member and they couldn't have messaged me and did not through the app. So we decided this is just pointless. We head out to use the hot tub on the patio, only to discover that is 4" full of water and mold. At this point our phone is fixed? You would think....but the "engineer" didn't fix it. Now, how are we to miss a call from the manager if we don't have a room phone and she didn't leave us any messages. Last I knew it was perfectly legal to leave messages.||||When we started messaging through our app, you can see what they said in the pictures below. This is it Marriott. I use to say "as long as it's a Marriot" how bad can it be." This is ridiculous! ||||They said that the hot tub only works in the summer? What? Aren't they tired of not telling the truth? I mean if you have multiple people lying and making things up, how can they keep anything straight. Please choose a different hotel. DON'T choose the courtyard right next door, it's attached.||||I should also make mention that if you are brave enough to endure their stupidity, don't take the elevator. Sharpe metal cut my finger and ripped my sweater. Nice...

Read moreI'm happy to say this was a 5 star experience for New York City.
I feel compelled to write a thorough review because people of all backgrounds come to New York from all over the world, and it's hard to know the standards of people that are writing reviews.
My goals are: good price, clean, great location, and no annoyances. On these metrics, this places is 5/5 all the way, and I'd stay here again.
The location is excellent, we had a wedding in Brooklyn, events uptown, across town, all over, and it was never difficult to get to any location, by subway, by bus, by walking, or by car share. On the way out to JFK we rode the A line to the JFK connector and from the lobby of the hotel to TSA line was one hour, with our luggage, and with the JFK connector.
The rooms were totally clean, and the room service was definitely the best I've seen anywhere. I mean, the staff was on top of it, they were so helpful and friendly when cleaning the rooms, I've never seen that in that past 10 years. Kudos, big time, to the cleaning staff. Even one time when we turned the staff away, they insisted we trade our towels for fresh ones. Awesome staff.
I loved the shower and the kitchenette. The latter made life just that much easier. The fridge was spacious and clean. And the bed was super comfortable. The AC was cold, quiet, and effective. And the window opened to let in from outside air too when we needed it.
Now, don't get me wrong, this is a New York City hotel room, so it's small, but what are you going to ask for, New York City is expensive, and space is at a premium. We felt like it was just fine for two us for 6 nights. No problem!!
The elevator situation is what it is. I've stayed at $500/night places near Times Square, for business, where the elevators were a total disaster and way worse than this. Here, during certain times of the day it could be a real slog. One morning it took 10 minutes to get from the 30th floor to the lobby. Again, it is what it is, I can't really complain about that. You just have to be smart and plan around it. I'd rather not spend my life savings on a fancy hotel just to have the same elevator experience somewhere else. I'd say, in summary, the elevator was adequate.
As to the breakfast, it was actually very nice. They had grilled vegetables, real New York bagels, and the coffee was good enough for a coffee snob to enjoy, enough to wake me up to go get real coffee, but it was absolutely drinkable. The staff at the breakfast were attentive, and constantly cleaning and bringing out fresh food. It's a Marriott breakfast, if you know anything about Marriott breakfasts, you will be pleased with this, if not slightly surprised (the bagels, the veggies, and the real oatmeal).
Finally, the front desk staff, even when they were busy they would greet and wish you a nice day. Check-in, and requests were all handled efficiently.
This isn't the Fairmont Empress Hotel Gold floor, extra Platinum white glove, blah blah, for $999 a night. We spent 6 nights, spent a reasonable amount to stay here, had a clean and tidy room, no gross stuff, had a great nights rest every night, zero annoyances in sleeping, great TV, great shower, and great location. I'm completely satisfied. Once again, remember, this is New York City, Manhattan, adjust your expectations about size, space, and the speed of...
