Pathetic. "Famed architect David Rockwell" should be ashamed, and the NYC Parks Dept should fire whomever approved his design. A bare, unfriendly, uncomfortable, potentially dangerous space. On one end, water burbles listlessly in a concrete "spray ground"; a narrow step bridge invites toddlers to climb to a few more water spouts, where they teeter 3 feet above the concrete below with no guard rail. At the other end, children make a long hot climb on one of two ramps to a single plastic slide that dumps them in a sand pit decorated by several truly ugly representations of ship masts. In the center, a Brutalist lookout tower crowning the restrooms is accessed by a steep staircase. The position of the lower banister indicates this is intended for use by small children, but the lookout platform (15 ft high?) is surrounded by a low open-work metal fence easily climbed by a toddler. Caregiver vigilance is perhaps enforced by the lack of adult seating. You won't find a scrap of grass or a tree. On a hot weekend, the sun beat down relentlessly, with 3 small umbrellas (the 4th was broken) offering scant shade. Oh, and no sign of the blue blocks featured on all...
Read moreGreat themed playground mainly consisting of sprinklers and sand in two divided areas with open concept. Today was our second time visiting. My initial visit was several years ago with my ten year old son while he was still a toddler and it was disappointing to see how the park has deteriorated over time as this was not the park I remember. The board walk or wooden floor areas were clean for the most part, sand was dirty and unkept. The blocks were not out not one and my child was looking forward to building which he was not able to do. There were only three umbrellas out to offer shade which left some seeking cover from the sun. There was also one umbrella closed and tapped up not available for use. Unfortunately I wouldn’t really recommend this playground for children beyond toddler to preschool age as amenities are very limited and even more without the blocks being available for use. Playground did not open until 10 AM today and someone with a child stated this is the usual opening time which differs from Google. Please restore this playground to its former glory as well as to operate as it is...
Read moreAvoid this playground. The man who works there has harassed parents every time we've visited. He goes WAY beyond normal park rules, and I've seen him yell at parents for simply touching the foam blocks while playing with their own children. We've seen him yell rules left and right, blow his whistle needlessly. It gets to the point where you feel harassed and uncomfortable while you're simply trying to play with your child. All he does is walk around and yell at people. We've been there 3 times and every time this employee has yelled at us or another parent. He...
