I visited Stout NYC during my vacation from Maryland on June 27th. I was waiting on a friend who works just two doors down from the FIDI location. I was intrigued by the $1 oyster Mondays so I went in to have a drink and oysters while waiting on her to leave work.
I entered around 4:33p. My waiter never mentioned his name and came about 10 minutes into me initially being seated. I found this strange considering the bar was practically empty however, I was in no rush because again I was on vacation.
I told him I was interested in Oysters and he advised that it started at 5pm so I order a beer and watched the World Cup to pass the time.
By 5:04 my friend joined me and my order had not been taken. My waiter comes back about 10 minutes after my friend arrives and takes my order for the Oysters. Our oysters came at about 5:30pm. I asked the person who brought them out for 2 small plates.
My original waiter brought the small plates and asked if we wanted otster forks in which he returned indicating that they did not have.
All of these issues with my waiter taking 20 minutes to do everything and him offering things that the restaurant didn't have like oyster forks on "oyster Monday" were all minor.
This was until he asked to have my card to hold because the restaurant had just had two walk outs. I proceeded to ask him what did that have to do with me while giving him my card and he stated, " it has nothing to do with you but we have to pay those tabs that people walk out on so we're just trying to protect ourselves." Again nothing to do with me and I have been sitting for an hour waiting on your snail service what ever gave you the impression that I would be "walking out."
Though he claimed that everyone was being asked for their cards, no one else had been asked for their cards.
I hate to pull the race card but if it looks and sounds like a duck, well.... My friend was completely livid and went to the bartender to have her pass the word to our waiter that we would need my card back immediately in which she obviously never did. She offered an excuse that cards were usually requested when customers sat at the bar or when there was a large amount of people in the restaurant. Which our situation did not qualify for either of these reasons.
Following our waiter hesitantly returning the card, his manager comes over to speak with us. I explained the issue as stated above and she replied saying it was policy to request to hold cards starting at 4pm during happy hour and that she had just had a staff meeting, which is why our waiter was delayed with requesting our card.
She went on to explain how our waiter was new and was just trying to be sure that he followed policy after being reminded during the staff meeting.
Now we have three different reasons as to why my card had been requested though again my table was the only one requested a card from.
Though she repeatedly insisted that it was not just my table and that although he provided an inappropriate explanation this was policy and would happen again if we ever decided to return. She continuously indicated, "it's not what it looks like, I swear."
I just find it strange that no one else was asked for their card and everyone had different reasons for the card policy.
Needless to say I will NEVER be returning, EVER.. The sad part of this entire story is that the oysters were really good but certainly not tasty enough for the humiliation and...
Read moreWent over the weekend for a Halloween party and received the worst service to date. The white male presenting and white female presenting bartenders behind the main bar were extremely rude although there wasn’t a huge crowd and we waited our turn before ordering. The male presenting bartender first yelled at my friend with an attitude sense he couldn’t hear her and seemed busy so we went to the other side of the bar.
He came to take my order and I ordered two margaritas with premium liquor. We paid and tried our drinks which tasted like they were made with well tequila.
I flagged down the female presenting bartender and asked if she can switch out our drinks to a tequila seltzer with the premium liquor. She yelled at me saying she watched him pour it and “squeeze fresh limes” meanwhile it was definitely a marg mix (which was fine by us). She grabbed our cups and as she poured them out and yelled “such a waste” as she rolled her eyes.
I’m convinced that if I or my friend were white she wouldn’t have spoken to either of us that way and I even asked her as she gave us our drinks. I have a background in customer service so I know how people should be treated and spoken to. We didn’t ask for anything free, we didn’t ask for anything extra. We took one sip of our drink and asked for something else which isn’t unreasonable.
We left immediately after the exchange and took our money elsewhere. We received better service from a place that was even more crowded and...

This was my first time at the FiDi location however I have been to the Midtown location numerous times as I work right down the street. Its my go to suggestion for a happy hour locations. It is also where we take all our visiting friends before they jump on the train at Penn Station.
After tonight I will never be entering your establishment again, Nor will I ever tell anyone who asks for a good beer bar recommendation to visit any of your locations. I can get past the mediocre bar food as its a sports bar after all and not a place I go for fine dinning. I can even get past the slow absent minded service as you guys are always busy and I understand how hard it is at times to find good quality staff.
What I can not get past is the fact you charged me $1 for a few cubes of ice for my whiskey. I have no problem spending the couple extra bucks for Jameson since after all you are located in FiDi and I'm sure your rent is astronomical. But you decide to gouge me for lousy $1. Now I am sure a lot of people will read this and say get over it, it only a $1. But to me its much more than that. It tells me how much you really value your customers. Im not worth the cost of 4-5 cubes of ice and washing a rocks glass. And after this review you know how much I value you as an...
