My family and I have been going to Work 88 ever since it was "First Wok". My parents actually went here on their very first date. The staff has watched my sister and me grow up and they have always been friendly. We continue to go back there even though we have moved farther and farther away from the city. The service is quick and the place is casual, but presentable. The actual seating area is small and can feel cramped when it is a busy night. Expect about a 15-30 minutes wait on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is fresh and has always been amazing. The prices are slightly high, but they're not bad for a restaurant in the city. If possible, their lunch menu has the classic favorites for very respectable prices and portions, and recommend going then.
The scallion pancakes are crispy and chewy, but there is still a slight flaky integrity that is not compromised by the chewiness. It's definitely not greasy for a fried pancake. I highly recommend it as a light appetizer. Also, they have a very fresh and light spinach and tofu soup that I can definitely recommend as well. The menu says it's a soup for two, but I have had it with my family and we're a group of four.
An all time favorite of mine is the General Tso's. The chicken has this light, fried breading, the seasoning is not overdone, the vegetables are cooked but still crispy, and has cabbage is added (which doesn't sound much, but it is one of my favorite vegetables). My sister loved this chicken dish the most, however, she is now a vegetarian and will still a pick on the vegetables. I typically prefer the shrimp fried rice with it (or just speaking in general). It's not too oily and the shrimps are cleaned properly! It's a classic that has always been cooked to perfection.
I would say I highly recommend this place if you're...
Read moreI visited Wok 88 in mid-July 2025 with some friends after work. When we entered the restaurant, we were seated rather quickly. My first impression was it’s a small place but the food must be good as people there was a steady rotation of people entering to dine. A waiter came over and brought us water right away. After a few minutes the waiter returned to take our orders. I did feel a bit rushed while looking over the menu. We received a food in about 10 minutes after we ordered. I ordered the chicken and broccoli with white rice. They only give you a small bowl of rice to go with the massive amount of chicken and broccoli. As we were eating I noticed the staff hovering over us. This was the second time I felt rushed while at this location. The staff was friendly it just seemed as though they were in a rush to get us out. They served complimentary pineapple slices when we completed our meal in which I did not eat as it seemed old. I will also tell you the prices are pretty steep. The restaurant is accessible via public transportation. They accept both cash and card. At this moment, I’m unsure whether I would return to...
Read moreA step more then your average Chinese take out place, there's decent dine in area as well. Don't expect over the top service since it's a very fast paced place where's expected from you to leave when you're done with your food. I'm not saying staff is rude or anything, on the contrary! They are absolutely nice and professional and will treat you great! Just this combination of dine in/take out place dictates a different type of service then a regular restaurant. Now the food is actually the best part! Besides being really delicious, there is a vast selection of dishes which are pretty straight forward for a Chinese place. Don't expect any experiments, just really tasty Chinese food and a lot of it per dish. You'll come out of this place pleasantly full. Lunch menu is scarce version of full menu, but prices are amazing! You can find dishes for 7$ coming with soup or egg roll. Definitely recommend this as your on the way to go place! Visiting Metropolitan? It's a 10 minute walk and you'll get a great dinner after...
