5 Stars – A Perfect Stay, Thanks to Nico at the Bar! I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Courtyard Marriott in North Charleston, and let me just say—it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The hotel itself was clean, modern, and conveniently located, but the real highlight of my stay was Nico, the bartender. From the moment I walked into the lobby bar, Nico’s energy and charisma lit up the entire space. He’s not just a bartender—he’s a true host. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about his craft, Nico made every guest feel like a regular. His ability to strike up great conversation while balancing a busy bar was impressive. Now let’s talk about the drinks—phenomenal. Nico’s cocktails were perfectly balanced, creative, and clearly made with care. Whether it was a classic old fashioned or one of his signature concoctions (seriously, ask him for a recommendation—you won’t regret it), every drink was top-shelf in both taste and presentation. It’s rare to find someone who elevates a hotel stay into a memorable experience, but Nico absolutely did just that. I found myself looking forward to the evenings just to wind down at the bar and catch up with him and the other guests he effortlessly brought together. If you’re staying in North Charleston, don’t miss out on the Courtyard Marriott—and definitely don’t miss Nico’s bar. He’s a gem and a major reason I’ll be back!!!!!!

Where do I start? Stay at your own risk. Checked into this hotel noticed the guy was trying to overcharge me once I checked in. That's irritated me but luckily I use certain cards for hotels which caused him to have to run what was told to me initially. Incidental fees should be discussed upfront. The room itself looked clean, however, there was the sign of bugs being in the bed once you pulled back all the covers. I called to speak with a manager to which the little guy at the desk tried to be rude nasty. Once Tina came to the phone I could tell she wasn't going to do. Although, I still voiced my concerns I had to chalk it up to NOT going back there again. The bugs in the bed was too much for me. Over this particular weekend I visited several Marriotts just to do reviews and I must say they all FAILED!! Response: Bill I didn't register under this email. I purposely didn't provide my name. Here's the thing how would I know Tina's name to provide if she didn't speak to someone regarding this. The young man who answered the call was very rude. However, this is my personal opinion which I am entitled to. Response: Every hotel does NOT have incidentals. I know because stayed at plenty and that's normally the 1st question I ask. But nevertheless I won't be staying at the location nor a couple more anymore in the Charleston area.

BEDBUGS‼️ I never leave reviews but I wish someone before me had left one. For the first time in my entire life, I had to experience bed bugs. I am infuriated as I write this review. After a long day of traveling (in my personal vehicle), shower and sleep was all I wanted to do. I awoke around 2am and just happened to glance over and see a small spot on my pillow. I then get up and turn on the light and to my complete and utter surprise, there were multiple BEDBUGS!!!! I lost it. Called the front desk. They immediately sent “Katrina” to my room. Upon entering she immediately saw what I saw and began yelling over the walkie talkie “FRONT DESK FRONT DESK ALERT ALERT.” My children and I were moved to another room but of course we were horrified, completely grossed out, and unable to really settle. I want it to be known we checked out the hotel on Sunday May 14th 2023 (Mother’s Day), and to this day at the time of the post, we have not received any feedback any management. Emails with photos, videos, etc have been sent and all ignored. Again, this infuriates and just speaks to their poor demeanor, customer service, poor hygiene, and BED BUG INFESTATION‼️ RUN, not walk, the other way. You stay here and you will leave an itchy, red, paranoid, body. You have been warned. See pictures below. FYI the bedbugs were in room 206.

My goodness let me start by saying the gentleman that worked this evening 4/5/2021 deserves so much more than 5 stars! The poor thing, I couldn't even catch his name and let me tell you all why....so I booked a room for me and my three children for a last minute stay with a thrid party, hotels.com, upon arrival parking is free. So we walked in and had about 5 people ahead of us and the line was moving slower than usual but nothing that was too concerning since this was a last minute booking for me anyways. So about 10 minutes of us standing there he steps from the computer and says " if anyone has a room booked through a third party like hotels.com or priceline, please call them while you're in line because our internet has been down since yesterday, Easter Sunday...and their hold times are saying about 3 hours" so I start calling and get the 3 hour hold time but the gentleman behind me calls and gets 3 minutes of hold time, as the worker is REBOOKING ALL OF US, He has to take all of our phones individually to talk to each representative because the hotel phones are DOWN. THIS MAN HANDLED THIS SO PROFESSIONALLY AND AS FAST AS HE COULD!!! Everyone in our line understood that while he was rebooking he was also confirming the cancelations over OUR CELL PHONES DURING A PANDEMIC. Not one complainant from this man! I had to use my daughter's cell phone to call the number the man behind gave me because I didn't want to hang up my phone with the three hour wait just incase but his number did not work and about 2 hours of waiting in the lobby we were all canceled with hotels.com and rebooked with Marriott. That is why I dont have a name because he was working with me, other customers and on all of our personal cell phones and did it with a smile and just so happy to help. I do know he said his name but my kids are 9, 7 and 4 and between all of the people and two cell phones to my ears i didnt catch his name but i will be asking in the am! Mind you this is also the end of his shift of dealing with this around 9-10 pm. I would have had 17 meltdowns crying and calling my manager asap for help. Then I walk down because our pullout needed sheets. Again hes still dealing with people and unfortunately the hotel was all booked this was around 11pm so people who had rooms booked, he had to step outside to use his personal phone...(he had the bartender watch the front so he could go outside to make the call on his personal phone, assuming because the hotels phones were not working to do this which the customers said he was busy smoking.) NOT TRUE! I saw everything. Then I watched about 4 customers gang up on him for having to do that when the HOTELS phone was not working he went out to send the over flow to the Marriott next door for the same price and they were so mad, another woman yelling at him about sheets and not having a cart down there. That man is ONE MAN handling everything he possibly could WITH A SMILE!!!! He deserves a raise a week off and idk whatelse but for what I saw and how he was treated for the small amount of time I was there in the lobby, about 2 and a half hours he didn't even break a sweat! That man CAN handle pressure. I will absolutely book with Marriott again due to his service and training. Hats off you to you sir, id call and ask the name now but the phones still don't work, which again, not his fault!

I spoke to the manager this morning and his name is Leon! Hopefully spelled correctly! But again, even with everything going on we will absolutely be booking again with Marriott because of his outstanding hospitality and calming personality! Thank you Leon!

I also want to say I felt very safe here. Seems like a good neighborhood, so much parking and bright lights and our room was clean and sanitized. Very happy...

You need to stay here. My husband and I are seasoned travelers and have stayed in 2 star hotels and 5 star resorts. We were heading to Charleston to welcome our newest grandson and I literally read a few reviews and spur of the moment booked this hotel. First off, I love a hotel that honors our active duty military and veterans with a discount, so that was the first big plus. We loved that it was new and the reviews were good. We also love some type of bar in our hotels, so that factored in.

As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted by the front desk. We checked in and they asked why we were there. From then on, every evening when we returned from our daughter’s house, they asked how our grandsons were doing. The bar tender asked about them as well and even the other guests asked. We had a little routine where we would come back to the hotel, grab a cocktail or 2 at the little bar and sit outside (weather permitting) at the big fire pit. The furniture was comfortable, nice and gave you so many options from cushioned couches, low tables, high tables to just chairs. What a great plus for a 3 star hotel! We didn’t use the pool, but our room overlooked it and it was lovely, again with tables and chairs and lounge chairs. Every day, they had towels rolled up on each chair for you. That is such a nice touch!

Now the room: It was spacious and super clean. It had a mini fridge and a one cup coffee maker, however, we preferred going to the lobby for coffee. They had the most lovely lady taking care of us who referred to herself as mama! The bed was comfortable with lots of pillow options. The room darkening curtains were fantastic. The little couch area was nice for a little tv time before bed.

The bathroom was the most impressive. They thought of everything. The countertop was plenty big, it had nice lighting and a makeup mirror. The huge walk in shower had so much space for toiletries and a great low bench for leg shaving. Plus, it had a nice no slip finish. There was even a little floor light around the toilet so you didn’t have to flip the light on for your middle of the night bathroom trips. That’s a first for us.

The only negatives (and they were not a big deal) were definitely not enough drawer space for more than a weekend stay. I would seriously stay a week here if I was visiting Charleston. Would have loved some flavored creamer at breakfast, but there wasn’t any.

All in all, hands down the best 3 star hotel for the best price! They treat you...

Worst Marriott chain I’ve been to! I travel roughly 75% of the time for work, and Marriott has been my go-to. This Courtyard is one of the most disappointing and frustrating places I’ve stayed at. Where should I start? First, cleanliness is not important here. I arrived to my room to find a trash can halfway filled with trash still, hair (not mine) in various places throughout the room and bathroom. Also, there were multiple walls full of gunk. I went to the store, bought my own cleaning supplies, and basically spent a couple hours of my first night cleaning and sanitizing my room. I would have checked out and gone elsewhere had my company not already pre-paid and a refund would not be possible.

In addition to the subpar state of the room and how dirty it was, I asked for my trash to be picked up one evening. When I left for work the following morning, the trash was still full outside of my room. I was told someone would come by shortly after I called the front desk that evening prior.

The final straw that has led me to this review is that after telling the front desk on my arrival day that I did not want any housekeeping services during my stay (my room did not have a “do not disturb” hangtag which is why I verbally called the front desk to relay this message), I came in from a day of work to find that someone had been in my room. The bed was made, clothes I had left out were placed in a pile on the chair, and things had been moved around. I left valuables out, thinking they would be safe and no one would enter, and now I am going to have to do an inventory check. I was told by the front desk when I called to decline any housekeeping services, that they still aren’t doing any housekeeping during stays unless it is requested. Communication is lacking at a detrimental level at this location.

I’ve tried to ask for the manager every evening when I return to relay these concerns and frustrations, but the manager has banking hours and is never here when I am either before work or after I return.

I will never stay at this place again, and I don’t recommend anyone else...
