While the appearance of this particular card shop looks very welcoming for all consumers, players and collectors alike, the intended community at least feels very niche and some game specific rules seem to alienate a large portion of the wider card game community. Specifically I mean the in-house "Commander Banlist" for MTG. While I do understand and agree with the intent of the banlist to encourage more casual games of EDH, the banlist itself forces one or two strategies if someone wants to win and forces other strategies to either be strictly worse or never played which creates a metagame that I don't think they intended for at all and that wouldn't be that big of a problem if the archetype they wanted people to play wasn't so incredibly linear and, quite frankly, easy to build against. In other words the ban list provided by Animal House Cards is not good for the game of EDH and stifles creativity from anyone who wants to play Commander. The store would be probably better off with something similar to a points list from Canadian Highlander or having the community self-police certain decks to ensure no one is actively trying to prevent others fun. An even better idea would be to have a separate, more competitive-EDH weekly tournament that allows more competitive players to explore new strategies and use more powerful and enjoyable cards. I hope you take this into consideration and create a more inviting atmosphere and playing...
Read moreWatched a person negotiate the price of a card (amount irrelevant). When I asked for the same treatment I was denied.
I understand how the world works, I promise ya. But donât do it in my face and think I wonât shed light to a biased business.
For reference I still bought the card, but none since then. Lost my business over a couple dollars đ¤
In response to the owners response: I am aware of how the market works thank you for the lesson. I know what happened because I was there, there was not a single difference in the transactions between myself and the other customer. He examined the card, asked for a small amount off the price. The employee stated he was able to come down a few dollars. When I examined a card that looked interesting but was slightly damaged the employee said that the prices were not negotiable. So please do explain how I am mistaken in this scenario? Its not a big deal, I am one review out of plenty of good ones, you can be polite and smile all you want in the store, but when you do someone wrong (like me) you eventually end up with some bad reviews. I wish it did not have to...
Read moreFirst, the prices are very high compared to other game card stores. Second, they prefer to hang out with their friends rather than serve customers. My daughter, her friend, and I waited patiently while the employees behind the counter talked to their friends. Because of the type of conversation they were having, it was a safe bet that it was their friends. One of the displays is next to where they were talking, and they were talking loudly, so you couldn't help but hear their conversation. Third, one of the employees was vaping. While that usually doesn't bother me, there were small kids there. I guess the owner doesn't care if the employees vape in front of the customers. I wasn't the only parent looking at this young lady while she kept using her vape. Finally, the atmosphere was not like the other game card stores. I have been to all the game card stores in this area, and this is by far...
