Hidden Gem Mexican Spot in North Charleston! As Detroit natives, my husband (who’s Mexican) and I know good Mexican food—and since moving to Charleston, it’s been hit or miss. But this little grocery store off Ashley Phosphate—Maz Fresco Súpermarket at 7363 Stall Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406—completely blew us away!
Inside this cozy store is a hidden restaurant serving authentic Mexican fare made with real TLC: • I had the carnitas quesadilla: the tortilla tasted homemade, the pork was tender and flavorful, and the cheese, onion, and cilantro were crisp and fresh. • My husband had a massive burrito—easily big enough for three people—and it was packed with flavor. • They also brought out two homemade sauces—one red and one green. Both were clearly made from scratch, perfectly balanced, not too spicy, and absolutely delicious.
Beyond the restaurant, the grocery side is packed with authentic finds: • A Mexican bakery with fresh cakes and traditional pan dulce. • A small meat market with quality cuts and hard-to-find items. • A surprising variety of Mexican staples despite the small space.
It’s a no-frills, family-style place that puts flavor and authenticity first. If you’re a fan of fresh, homemade Mexican food and love discovering hole-in-the-wall gems, Maz Fresco Súpermarket is a must-visit.
