A 2 night stay at this property was negatively impacted by Choice Hotels' billing practices and system integration issues. During my recent stay on May 17 and May 18, 2025. I experienced significant problems with their credit/debit card processing procedures that affected my trip finances.
A. Initial Booking Issues
A1) Booked through Choice Hotels website with advance payment rate
A2) Expected immediate payment processing
A3) Payment was not processed at booking despite advance payment selection
B. Multiple Authorization Problems
B1) Received unexpected dual authorizations on my debit card:
B2) First authorization: 50% of daily rate; Second authorization: Full stay payment
Both appeared as pending charges simultaneously
B3) These holds severely limited my available funds for trip expenses
C. System Integration Concerns
C1) Discrepancy between online reservation system and property's internal records
C2) Advance payment status unclear between systems
C3) No clear communication about payment processing differences between properties on Choice Hotels website or at property
D. Extended Hold Duration
D1) Required to sign document stating holds could remain up to 15 days
D2) Both authorizations remained pending 24 hours post-checkout
D3) Unclear if hold duration applies equally to credit and debit cards
E. Impact on Travel Plans
E1) Reduced spending power due to multiple holds
E2) Financial constraints affected overall trip experience
E3) Lack of transparency led to unexpected budget limitations
This experience has led me to decide against future bookings with Choice Hotels due to their unclear billing practices and system integration issues.
I would like to say that the property staff were friendly and professional at all times, and should not be blamed for these confusing policies. There were also additional amenities like frozen food vending and infused lemon water for refreshment in the lobby that helped to make an unpleasant experience tolerable.
B. Additional areas for Improvement B1. Housekeeping and Maintenance While maintenance response was prompt and helpful with TV remote battery replacement, several high-touch areas may need more attention: **TV remote controls **Landline phones on nighttable **Bathroom amenities (lotion, shampoo, conditioner bottles). There's no need to replace the entire bottles, but just wipe them down the container in between guest stays. **Bathroom light switches B2. Breakfast Service Current weekend breakfast service (7 AM - 10 AM) faces several challenges: **Insufficient staffing: One attendant overwhelmed during peak periods **Food replenishment issues: Hot items (eggs, sausage, pancake batter) depleted 45 minutes before closing **Many guests experienced stock shortages Recommended improvements: **Add second breakfast attendant **Install bilingual (English/Spanish) signage for guests to report low supplies **Consider extending weekend hours to 7:30 AM - 10:30 AM to better accommodate guests B3. Front Desk Information Staff knowledge gaps regarding local public transit: While aware of Commercial Blvd bus stops, staff lacked specific route information Suggested improvement: Provide front desk staff with detailed information about: **Bus route numbers **Destination...
Read moreWe reserved rooms for ourselves and our friends. Neither room was ready when we got there. We went to get something to eat and came back later. A couple of hours later, the first room was finally ready. It was a handicap accessible room. This would have been great if someone had a disability. The sinks and shower height were set for someone in a wheel chair, not a six foot two person. You had to crouch to shower or use the sink. When our room was finally ready, we entered and it smelled like a bar. It was musty and smelled like smoke ( we asked for two NON- smoking rooms) We were cold so we turned the thermostat up. this immediately set off the smoke alarm, because it began to smell like something was burning. We went to the front desk to complain. they sent a worker ( not a maintenance staff member) to look at the problem. It took this staff member five minutes to figure out how to open the unit. he took the filter outside to spray it off, and sprayed it with an apple cinnamon scented spray. This fresh scent lasted for about an hour, then the rotten smoke smell returned, and the room smelled like burning again. When I went to the front desk to complain again, they gave me the same spray bottle of apple cinnamon spray, and told me to walk around the room spraying it on the carpet and furniture, to cover up the smell. They did not send a staff member to do this , they told me that I was supposed to try to get rid of the terrible smell myself. to top it off, we thought the maintenance man was using a snake to clean out the toilet above us. We realized it was the hotel washing machines above us, as the machine spun out of balance all night long as they did laundry.. we got to listen to a thumping, grinding noise. the smell stayed with us throughout the night. WIFI was sporadic around the hotel as soon as we entered our room, we dropped signal, it only worked in the lobby. we were extremely disappointed. we have been choice hotel members for years, and have always been satisfied. We booked these rooms with confidence, and were horribly embarrassed as we were with friends, and we had bragged up how great the choice hotels were. I guess this does not apply in...
Read moreWe were quite happy with the front desk staff upon arrival around 7:30pm on December 26, 2015. The girl was very friendly and helpful. The next day, at check out, December 27 was a totally different story. The girl at the front desk that morning was quite rude and not pleasant to deal with at all. I had asked her if she could call us a cab for 11am to go to the Port in Ft Lauderdale. Told her we would like a van because we were 6. She said they had a shuttle already called for someone else and we could get on that for $12 a person. I had declined because we knew from our van driver to the hotel that it was a $40 cab ride to the Port. So I told her we would just take the van. She instead called for 2 taxis and they arrived at 10:30. Of course we weren't ready, I had asked for them for 11am. When I found out she called 2 I told her we would then just take the shuttle, and she told me it was too late she wasn't calling the shuttle again. But in the meantime the taxis had left because all of our party wasn't ready. I had to ask her to call again and she was quite rude about having to make a call again and then told me that vans only operated out of the airport and you cannot just call for a van we needed 2 taxis. Would have been nice if she would have told me that in the first place and we would have taken the shuttle. Only one cab arrived so 3 of us took that one and it was another 1/2 hour before the other cab eventually showed up to the hotel. She never even said bye to us, thanks for staying with us, nothing. She was so rude. It reflects bad on your hotel to have a person like that at...
