This would have been a 4-5 star stay had my newlywed husband and I not been racially profiled by staff. This was the hotel for our honeymoon. We are African American and stayed here for 3 nights. We stayed in a king suite which was beautiful and came with a jetted tub my husband and I enjoyed. The internet could have been better but that’s not a deal breaker.
Being racially profiled: On the last day of our stay, we went downstairs to enjoy some free breakfast. We stepped outside for a moment to have a smoke since it’s not allowed on premises. We came back inside and went to get free breakfast. 2 men come running at us who look like they are electricians and not hotel workers. They accuse my husband and I of coming from another hotel for the free breakfast. It’s a continental breakfast where the only hot item served is a waffle you make yourself. If I wanted a free breakfast that badly, I would have gone elsewhere. We explained to them our hotel room number in which one of the workers blatantly accused me of lying insisting he saw me come from somewhere else. Either he was lying and was hoping to catch me in a gotcha moment or he mistook my husband and I for another black couple which is equally as bad. It’s innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. This soured the entire experience for us and we checked out pretty quickly afterwards. I would have booked here again, if not for the negative experience we had.
I wouldn’t come back to this specific hotel but I won’t swear off all La Quinta’s, just this one if you want to skip the racist encounter.
Edit to owners response: I can confidently say the staff I am referencing actually did not apologize to me or my husband. It was simply laughed off as a silly mistake that happens all the time. However, when we were being accused the tone was instantly aggressive and told me you’d already made up your minds about us being liars though we weren’t and that you didn’t believe we belonged there even though I immediately willingly stated my name and room #. Though I provided my room number, I was accused of being seen coming out of another room in the hotel by one of the two men who approached and accused my husband and I, which was a blatant lie. I would have understood and obliged if I’d been decently asked to show my hotel room card to avoid having to follow you to the counter after being talked down to in front of everyone when I was just rightfully trying to enjoy my honeymoon breakfast. Embarrassing my husband and I was completely unnecessary and it should have been handled with more decorum, especially given the fact that we were actual paying guests and not the liars and thieves you PUBLICLY made us out to be. The whole experience put a damper on our honeymoon weekend that we otherwise spent enjoying. Thanks for the...
Read moreI'm just going to be honest here! This is honestly the worst place I've ever stayed! I've stayed with this hotel for years but, in Daytona on the beach side and I've never had this experience there. I booked this hotel over the phone way in advance because, I was taking my girlfriend to have her birthday at the parks. When we got to our room it was hot and they had the ac on already. It was set to 65 which is the lowest you could go with that hotel. We got our dogs situated and we went out to dinner hoping when we come back it was cool finally. Only to find out when we get back there was no change it was still warm. So we let the office know plus bringing it to their attention about the roaches on the walls climbing crawling on the stairs dead. That room also had fleas or something because we kept itching. So we changed rooms hoping it would be cooler and hoping for a bug free room. Only to find yes it was cooler but, it had roaches. So I killed one and brought it to the girl working in the office. Sicked out of course. So they were going to change us a 3rd time which was ridiculous. We called other Laquinta's in the area including the one in Daytona even other hotels trying to find a clean hotel. Alot of hotels were already full or not pet friendly. Imagine doing this on your vacation you already paid plus it's after 11 p.m. when all you want to do is sleep. And be ready for the next morning for a fun time. We checked out a 3rd room only to find it had roaches again as well. My girlfriend saw a roach crawling out from another room. At that point we were just done! We gave it more than enough chances. I appreciate the fact they tried switching us but, honestly it shouldn't have happened in the first place. It's infested with roaches. Look we all work hard for our money none of us should have to stay in a place with these conditions! I hope this helps any guest looking to check into this specific location. Hopefully this hotel gets the help they need with the bugs. Thank you to the young lady in the office with the glasses. She was very sweet and...
Read moreI didn’t end up staying. I booked a room for 5 people (2 adults, 3 kids). When we arrived at the room there were only two double beds and in no way could accommodate the 5 of us. We were only in the room long enough to call the front desk to see if there was a different room that could sleep all 5 of us. Since there was no room the front desk said they would approve a refund and to drop off the key at the front desk. We left the room as we found it and dropped the key off at the front desk. We were there for no more than 10 minutes and then drove 2 hours home instead of staying in the area. The next morning when I tried requesting the refund the hotel was trying to deny it saying that we did stay in the room and the bed was obviously slept in. When I requested they show us pictures of the room they sent me a picture of a room that had obviously been used by someone that wasn’t us. We didn’t even sit on the beds. The manager on Sunday was horrible called me a liar saying I didn’t return the key, that the bed was obviously slept in and that they would not process a refund (see pics attached sent to me). I emailed the GM of the hotel and demand they look at the cameras for the amount of time we were in the room and to see who else went in the room after us because it was not us in only 1 bed. After he reviewed the cameras he determined that we were in fact in the room for only 9 minutes and that I had returned the key to the front desk. It was a fight to get my refund and a terrible experience dealing with the manager on Sunday. I don’t know if someone purposely messed up the room or if staff stay there at night, but I almost didn’t get my refund because of their underhanded behavior. Glad David at least finally checked the cameras to prove it wasn’t us because the manager on Sunday said he wasn’t going to do that. Horrible experience and I...
