It's been years since I went to Melao. I came to Florida for vacation and two days ago I went to Melao Bakery, Melao was the number one place to eat good puerto rican food. I was disappointed this time. My wife was charged for someone else's plate and she was told that she had to pay more attention to her plate. I ordered two mofongos, one with pork rinds and the other without pork rinds, I received both with pork rinds. They didn't give me mayo ketchup so I asked for it, the girl told me that they didn't have it, that she had to make it and I told her that I would wait for it, 20 minutes later I'm still waiting, I already felt unpleasant so another lady asked me if I need anything and I told her that I had been waiting 20 minutes for the mayo ketchup and she told me "there is no mayo ketchup" I told her that the girl told me she was going to make it but I'm still waiting, and with an attitude she told me, "Well, if she told you that she was going to do it, I don't know." I waited another 10 minutes, a total of 30 minutes. Finally, the girl who told me that she was going to make the mayo ketchup came out but without the mayo ketchup and I asked her and I just rolled her eyes with a gesture of irritation and left... I ate the cold mofongo without mayo ketchup. The next day I went to FL Bakery! Waoooo! What a difference from the treatment to the quality of the food. I ate a good mofongo with “MAYO KETCHUP” Now I understand why almost all the Puerto Ricans that I know told me not to go to Melao and instead go to Fl Bakery. Is way much better. The manager came to listen to the complaint I had, she went to investigate and then came back and told me… that the problem was that there was no mayo ketchup at that moment and it is a process to prepare it. Ooookkkeyyy. Where is the communication? The attitude of the employees? The cold food I ate? The employee that told my wife that she had to pay attention to her plate when the plate is close and on the employee side? The mofongo that I ordered without pork rinds? Well… reputation...
Read moreToday I had a very disappointing experience at Melao Orlando. As someone who relies on a service dog, I was shocked by the lack of knowledge and professionalism displayed by the staff.
After waiting in line for 10 minutes, I was approached by a female employee who informed me that my service dog was not allowed inside. Despite explaining that my dog is indeed a service dog and legally allowed to accompany me, she continued to argue. When I mentioned involving my attorney, she abruptly walked away and instructed the cashiers not to take my order.
Shortly after, a male manager approached me saying his female employee said I told her my dog was emotional support so my service dog was not allowed inside - i never said this. Only after further explanation did he reluctantly agree to allow my service dog to stay, but with the condition that he behaves.
Throughout this ordeal, my service dog remained calm and well-behaved, lying quietly at my feet. It was clear the employees and the manager lacked proper training on how to handle customers with service dogs.
While I have previously enjoyed the food at Melao Orlando for its quality and affordability, this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be returning until I am confident that all employees and managers are adequately trained and educated on accommodating customers with service dogs. The treatment I received was not only unprofessional and unacceptable - it was ILLEGAL!
As for the food, I stayed and waited against my better judgment- Waited 40 minutes for 2 Tripleta sandwiches and a breakfast egg meal with coffee. The Tripleta sandwiches were soggy from all the mayo ketchup. I asked for ice water and they gave me a tiny 8oz cup that can't be refilled unless you stand in a...
Read moreI had read reviews of how delicious the food was so was excited to try this restaurant! The bakery case looked great. We were confused how it worked and noone was helpful so we decided to just order food to go. Using the menu on the wall I asked for the #3 sandwich and the cashier rudely said THAT DONT MAKE ANY SENSE. I then waited for the rotating menu to come back to the sandwich menu while my sons ordered and asked for the sweetbread ham sandwich. She then said there isn't anything called that and told me to use one of the menus on the counter in front of me. However, there weren't any and she then threw one at me. I was so shocked, I pointed to the sandwich I asked for called #3 Sweetbread ham sandwich and she understood. Then we tried to order from the bakery case and that employee kept speaking to us in I believe Spanish but we don't speak more than a marginal amount. When I apologized, she only pulled her mask down and repeatedly yelled the words louder at me as if I was deaf until she was screaming. My teen son and his friend were like lets just go, they don't want us here. They ended up putting things we didn't even want in our box and at this point I was trying not to cry because it was humiliating in front of a crowd of people behind us. They were quite kind and helpful to the people who seemed to speak the same language. It took a long time to get the food and they didn't pack it to go as asked so we ate there. The food was okay, nothing great, the teens didn't like the burgers they got, my sandwich was good. The baked items look much better than they taste. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't wish that kind of...
