I am truly appalled by the events of today.
I’ve been living here in my own rv for the last 6 months. Some visitors, for the first time in 6 months, complained that I was “shouting at my dogs”
What really happened is that my very sweet 11lb 3yr old well-trained pup was in my yard right next to the road. Sometimes, he wanders across to pee on a pole, and I go scoop him up and bring him back and there was an rv that was coming the hill/road.
On this potty walk in the yard, I was just on the other side of a tree with my two other pups on leashes (because they are 4 months and not trained like my 3yr old), and in a moment of panic since I couldn’t see my pup, thinking he might wander across the road, I jumped onto the road shouting for the folks in the rv to stop. They did.
I was told by someone who works here that isn’t the manager that it was a temporary stay that complained.
Now, all this is well and fine for someone to complain, but when I tried to talk to Michelle, the manager, about it, she acted like I was an inconvenience, and bullied me out of the office.
Before going into the office:
Having JUST heard that my mother only has 4 months left to live due to her stage 4, I was feeling pretty upset already before going to the office to see why they had called me twice.
Michelle informed me that I was reported to be speeding (which was true, I had recently left in a hurry), and that I was reported for shouting at my dogs. I was taken aback by the second complaint. I immediately began going into questions and explanations, feeling irritated that people are reporting me for the way I interact with my dogs, which was insulting, and then when I told Michelle that about the story of my pup off leash in my yard, she cut me off saying “I let you talk, now let me talk”…
I wasn’t aware that my explanation was limited to a few words, so I was kinda shocked and upset that this customer service rep/property manager just shut me down mid explanation.
At one point, I said “aren’t you supposed to be in customer service?” And she said “No, I’m a manager, not customer service”…….
What?!?!?
At this point the exchange had turned weird and hostile as Michelle said “you’re on camera”…
Um… okay?
Then as I continued to ask why she would point that out, she told me to leave the office or she’d call the sheriff…
At this point, my head is spinning. I’m stunned. Why is the property manager being so intensely aggressive. I can only guess she had a lot of work to do and didn’t want to have the conversation, because she pointed out that she had REVIEW comment responses to give, and she didn’t have time for me.
Keeping in mind that, before going into the office, I had just received further awful news about my moms terminal condition, and when I tried to explain that, Michelle callously blew over that and continued to bully me out of the office with threats to call the police.
I am seriously at a loss here. How is that okay? How is a property manager actually managing a property thinking they AREN’T CUSTOMER SERVICE?!?!
This place will fall apart under Michelle’s leadership.
I’m leaving here next month, and I recommend anyone hoping for good management on the long term front, avoid this place like the plague!
Aside from this awkwardly inappropriate event, the water and electricity have gone out countless times in the last 6 months. That’s not an exaggeration!
Best of luck to you travelers, and Michelle, when you read this, understand, please….. You ARE in customer service! If you don’t get that, get a...
Read moreWe stayed at High Sierra in mid february. On the website it said we would have water and electricity. We arrived there and had neither. We know what kind of amp we have and it said it could handle it (20-amp). We needed electricity. So we put together 3 extension cords and went to the next site over (mind you, we’re in front of the river. there is a not single campsite in use by us. i took a picture to show that those sites stayed empty) so we figured it would not be a problem to plug our stuff in. We received a call from the campground host the day after we arrived. She was passive aggressive. She said, “you should know that if you come in february, you won’t have water or electricity”. So we decided to look in to things ourselves. Sites 5-15 did not have water. Sites 5-14 had electricity (ours being the only site without electricity). Every campsite in the upper area (we were down right by the river) had water. Not only that, she told us we couldn’t plug our things in at another campsite because the “sites were filling up”. Not a single person came to stay at sites 5-14 while we were there for a whole week, Sunday through the following Saturday. To add to that, she said they could repair the water and electricity, (but i thought we couldn’t because it’s winter? anyways.) She told us that if something broke with their water or electricity while they tried to fix it, we would have to pay for all the repairs. we are from Minnesota. We came here to see Yosemite. we know what it’s like to experience the cold. the day we left it was -11°. we have a water heater running outside for our farm animals during the winter. we know you can get electricity. we know that electricity works in the winter. we politely asked for a slight discount since we were not informed about these issues. the camp hostess rudely replied with the answer no since “we should’ve known these issues would be obvious”. if it’s true that water and electricity doesn’t work during the California winter season, please let the people know. you can’t blame it on us when that’s what your website says.
online it also says there is a riverfront setting. that’s true. when i called to make sure they were opened, i asked what that meant. the lady said it was a beautiful river area with lovely views. that’s true. we loved falling asleep to the sound of a small waterfall. the river water is clean and there are areas to just sit by the river. but we were not told about the facility across the river. with bright lights and big buildings, we were shocked to see it. not only that but across the river you’ll see trash just on the grass. it seems to be couch cushions just laying in the trunk of a tree. you’ll also see pop cans laying around. we understand this is a wonderful price and we’re grateful we found a place to stay. but we are frustrated with how we were treated and things we were not told about. Now that we know what to expect, yes we would come back. But with no warnings, our experience was a...
Read moreOther than dry camping in the park itself, which is hard to get, you will still have a good drive to anything you want to see in Yosemite from just about any private campground. We stayed here a month in our motorhome. The staff, Kathy, Nicky & Donna were very friendly & helpful. My biggest compliant would be the size of the sites themselves. They were very tight & you were right on top of your neighbor. Most of the time, it didn't matter too much because there are a huge amount of rental RV's that go thru there & they don't tow a car, so even if they stay more than one night, their RV goes with them all day. I can't say much about the river, it's more like a creek, but if you walked down by the campsites there was a small waterfall that sounded nice. We did see several deer, including a buck, lots of birds & some resident ducks. You're close to town & could actually walk there if you don't tow a vehicle. There is plenty to offer in the town of Oakhurst, including a movie theater, a couple of large grocery stores, plenty of restaurants & just about anything else you would need. We also went to Bass Lake several times. It's about a 15 min drive from there. The lake is very clear & the water was not real cold. We hung out by "The Falls"- didn't see any of those, but it was close & usually not too crowded. The wifi was usually pretty good, it dropped me a couple times, but that was in a month's time. We didn't use the bathrooms so can't comment on that, except to say I saw them being cleaned a couple times each day. I did use the laundry, which was reasonably priced - I think $1.50 for wash & $1 for dry, which was at least 45 min & dried everything, & it was clean. I'm rating this a 2 on facilities because of the small sites & there wasn't much landscaping so you couldn't call this a pretty campground. However, I would recommend it to others. Be sure to follow their RV friendly directions from Civic & Golden Oak off rt 41. Your GPS will bring you in another direction which is a big hill. Best sites -40 there is no one on your patio side & it seems a little wider, 39 - no one on either side, however, the dump station is next to it, but I walked my dog past there plenty of times & never smelled anything, also it is next to one set of bathrooms, so there are people around & I've seen people cut the back corner to use the restroom- one person put yellow tape across to keep people from cutting thru. It's under the trees & very shaded. Also got a nice breeze from across the "river" & you could hear the waterfall. #16 was great if you've got a smaller RV or trailer. It's on the end & there is a small grove of tress right next to it. It was the coolest spot in the park during the heat wave. #36 & 34 have more space, but there is a lot of traffic going past them. The river view spots were really nothing but maybe a small view of the...
