This is the worst treatment I have received in a restaurant in my life. Let’s first get the quality of the food out of the way so that I can focus on what the real issue was. The food ranged from okay to pretty bad. The Kadhai chicken deserves special mention because it smelled so strongly of garlic paste (this is what happens when the garlic paste is not cooked enough or added too late). Now, coming to the points that made us so disappointed- The restaurant is listed as a pet-friendly place. But they refused to let us in with our pets after waiting for more than 30 mins already. When we asked why is it marked as pet friendly, they said they only allow pets outside on the patio. We said we were absolutely fine with dining in the patio. All of a sudden, they just said we can’t. Weird, but okay, we were still hopeful. We asked for takeout and waited.
We were waiting, along with another group of Indian people with kids (no pets). In front of us, this group was asked to wait another 10 mins. While we were waiting, multiple groups of people (all non-Indians) came and got seated. None of them were asked about having prior reservations or anything and the group sizes were no different than us or the other group that was waiting. Anyway, after about 15-20 mins, a lady from the Indian group asked at the reception when can they get a table as it’s been much longer than 10 mins (this group was waiting since even before we arrived and we were already there for 45 mins by then). I was standing very close to the reception and I heard the two people at the reception discuss how dare they walk in and demand to be seated. Then one of them just told the lady that they don’t like being hurried and they have the right to not allow them in. He sent them away after making them wait for almost an hour only because the lady called out the irresponsibility on their part. As they were turned away rudely, we just looked at the hungry kids in the group and felt extremely bad. It was already 9:30pm and was unlikely they would find anywhere decent to eat that night, other than probably some fast food if they are lucky.
It’s possible it was a very busy day for them but it just doesn’t justify how they treated the lady. We heard the way both sides talked so there really wasn’t any justification for this kind of behavior. Lost all respect, would...
Read moreI am not sure why, but I never tried Indian food. I never even had a desire to. I just always thought it would all be spicy or weird food and flavors that we do not typically eat in this country. Recently I was invited to Tandoori Express for a friend's birthday. My wife, son, and I went with an open mind. I am so glad I went. Oh My Lord, that food is amazing. We love this place. It is our new favorite restaurant.
First of all, the owners Omi and Vanshu are wonderful hosts. This is a family-run restaurant with Omi in the kitchen personally cooking this heavenly food. This man can cook!!! Vanshu, his wife is waiting on tables and going around the tables to make conversation and asks people how the food is or if we need anything else. The ambiance is very casual and very inviting. So, to the food…My wife and I have already returned and plan to go again this week. There is nothing on the menu that we have tried that we did not like. And most importantly, the whole spicy food belief I had. I was wrong. Every meal they will ask you how you desire to have it. You can ask for No spice (I do), mild spice (my son does), or medium spice (like my wife does), hot we have never ordered.
We had an Onion and Tomato-based curry to die for. The mango-flavored curry is to die for. We had it with chicken, shrimp and lamb. The lamb is my favorite, it is beyond tender. Their desserts are so wonderfully flavored. I don’t know what the names were, but there were these white balls, and then there were these other balls, warm and in a sweet sauce. Oh, the three-layer Chocolate mousse/ cheesecake type desert was amazing. We tried their Garlic Naan-wow, and we had what reminded me of Empanada type appetizer. It is fried but has peas, potato and meat in it.
I could go on and on but you get the point. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the mountains. And their prices are affordable and reasonable. If you were like me, unwilling or hesitant to try Indian food, get over it and go try it. I do not believe anyone could regret it with the combination of spices and flavors Omi uses.
I highly recommend that you give this...
Read moreA Gem Near Yosemite – Heartfelt Thanks to Vanshu and Tandoori Express!
During our recent trip to Yosemite, we had the pleasure of dining twice at Tandoori Express in Oakhurst, CA, and both experiences were nothing short of exceptional. I felt compelled to write this review not only to commend the quality of the food but also to extend a sincere thank you to Vanshu, the warm-hearted owner, whose hospitality turned our visit into a truly memorable one.
Traveling with kids—especially through winding mountain roads—can be challenging, and we were particularly concerned as our 2-year-old niece had been experiencing an upset stomach and vomiting earlier in the trip. When we casually mentioned this to Vanshu, she responded with extraordinary kindness and care. She went above and beyond, suggesting dishes that would be gentle on the kids’ stomachs, adjusting the spice levels thoughtfully, and ensuring the food was nutritious, fresh, and comforting. Her genuine concern and attention made us feel not just like customers, but like guests in her home.
The food itself? Absolutely delicious. Every dish was freshly prepared, full of authentic Indian flavors, and served with care. From the tender tandoori items to the perfectly spiced curries, each bite was satisfying and flavorful. Even the kids enjoyed their meals—and within hours, we noticed a remarkable improvement in their energy and comfort.
We were so impressed that we returned for a second meal the very next day, and once again, the service and food were impeccable. Tandoori Express is a must-visit for anyone craving quality Indian cuisine near Yosemite. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, this place is worth your time—and your taste buds will thank you.
If you truly want to elevate your experience, ask for Vanshu. Her kindness, knowledge of the menu, and attentiveness will ensure your meal is not only satisfying but also tailored to your needs.
Thank you again, Vanshu and team, for your outstanding service and care. You made a lasting impression...
