If you are anywhere around the surrounding area of Oakhurst, MAKE SURE you go to Mountain Oaks cafe! On our way back from Yosemite on our last day staying in Mariposa we stopped here after finding it on Google maps, and we wish we had come sooner (we would have driven 35 minutes EVERY night to get food here). We ended up going twice-the following day on our way leaving Mariposa to go to Exter also. They have a very big menu with choices for everyone, amazing portions, wonderful service and the owner Fidel was one of the best we've met! My husband and I have both worked in the service industry and this place is run the best possible way. Fidel and his son are constantly working out in the dining room with the rest of the front house staff (we observed as we were there), the staff work as a team and are very attentive, the kitchen staff obviously care about the food they put out as it is presented well, and the quality of the food is amazing! My husband got the pastrami burger two days in a row because he loved it so much, I got the chorizo burrito one day and the turkey club the next (I failed to take a picture but it was huge with high quality meats/bread). Fidel talked with us for at least 15 minutes and also treated us to Posole in the pictures. The flavor was so wonderful and fresh, and we were very thankful for the hospitality we received that we looked at other restaurants in Fresno Fidel owns and will be visiting one of the Yosemite falls cafe locations as well. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and I am confident other restaurants he owns will be the same great service, high quality and...
Read moreIf youâre near Oakhurst or heading to/from Yosemite National Park, the Mountain Oaks CafĂ© is worth the stop. The service and the food are excellent. We stopped in towards the end of the lunch rush. Although there were a few people ahead of us, we didnât wait long to be seated. The waitress stopped by frequently as we tried to decide and to check on us as we ate. The choices on the menu were all enticing, it made choosing difficult. Our party of three chose a Patty Melt, Spicy Guacamole Burger, and a California Burger. But, before we received our meals, the owner brought us a complimentary plate of their special that day, Biscuits and Gravy, with three spoons so we could share. The biscuits were so fluffy, almost cakey, with just a bit of sweetness. The biscuits would have been great on their own (or for strawberry shortcake dessert). The sausage gravy was a perfect balance to the biscuits. It was addictive, a large portion, and we had to force ourselves not to eat all of it, so we would have room for our burgers. The burgers were worth the wait and leaving room for. I donât typically like a messy burger, but I loved my CA Burger with the wine reduction. That wine reduction really took my burger over the top. The burgers were cooked to perfection with just enough toppings. Nothing was left of any of our burgers. I had the raspberry ice tea with my CA Burger. The raspberry in the tea provided itâs own sweetness. I wish I wouldâve asked for a âto-go cupâ for my tea. If we ever find ourselves in Oakhurst again, Mountain Oaks CafĂ© will be on our list of...
Read moreWhile vacationing in Oakhurst, the Mountain Oak Cafe was highly recommended for breakfastâand it was so good we went back the next day.
I had the pancakes, and they were perfectâfluffy, golden, and just the right level of sweetness. They typically come with powdered sugar and butter, but since thatâs a little too much for me, I asked for no powdered sugar and no butterâand they got it right, no questions asked.
My dad went for the classic eggs, hash browns, and ham with an English muffinâwhich he loved. The previous day, he had the bacon, which he wasnât a fan of, but heâs ridiculously picky about bacon, so I wonât hold that against them. Everything else? Top-notch.
This place felt like home. The staff didnât just serve usâthey treated us like we were locals, which was a really nice touch. You could tell this was a true community spot, with staff joking around with regulars and creating a welcoming, relaxed vibe. Itâs the kind of place where you could sit for a while, sip your coffee, and feel right at home.
Our waitress was awesomeâfriendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. But there was one small issue⊠she was wearing a San Francisco Giants hat. Now, as a Dodgers fan, this was almost a dealbreakerâbut thankfully, the pancakes saved the day.
Everything about Mountain Oak Cafeâfrom the delicious food to the small-town hospitalityâwas fantastic. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If youâre in Oakhurst and need a solid, feel-good breakfast, this is the place to be.
Just be warnedâthere may be some Giants...
