I checked in and the lady who checked me in was very nice. She gave me a key and I went to my room on the 4th floor, tried the key, but it didn't work. Went back downstairs and she got me a new key and then came up with me to make sure it worked, so she gets an A+ for customer service (I am very sorry I didn't get her name). That night, I was getting ready for bed and the room was getting very chilly, so I went to the thermostat and turned it up to get the heat to kick on. I set it to 72, but the heat didn't kick on so I thought, "Well, it must be warmer than I thought and it will kick on once it gets below that," and I went to bed. I was exhausted as I had just lost a close family member a few days earlier and have been grieving and, to be honest, barely functioning and not getting any sleep. I desperately needed rest. Sometime in the middle of the night I woke up and realized it was very cold. I could've got up and contacted the desk in which they would either send a maintenance person or put me in another room, meaning that either way, sleep is done for me. I made the decision to just fold my comforter over again to get warm. In the morning, I put on a warm jacket and then went downstairs. I told the lady, Amber, that my heater never kicked on and I was cold all night. Instead of apologizing she immediately started telling me I should've notified them and that they would've sent up a maintenance person, that the lady was downstairs all night and they could've fixed it. I explained that I didn't want to go through that hassle in the middle of the night and that I just folded my blanket over to stay warm. She NEVER apologized, just continued to go on how I should've called them so in other words, it was my fault I was cold all night. I at a couple of pieces of toast and got my stuff out of the room and went to check out. I asked Amber for a discount since I had to sleep in a cold room - she said, "I'm sorry, I can't give you a discount since you didn't call us to let us fix it." By the way, this is the first time she apologized, but for the wrong reasons. I explained to her that I had just lost a family member and was barely functioning, much less getting up in the middle of the night to switch rooms or have a maintenance person in there to fix the heat. She just continued on about how I should've called them. I told her that I would be giving them a bad review and she said, "Well, that's not fair since you didn't give us an opportunity to fix it." I get it, but I could've used a little empathy from her instead of the attitude. Needless to say, I paid cash for my room and left, absolutely furious. I will admit that I said something very rude to her when I left and I should not have done that, but she was just being smug and rude to me and I snapped. I am not normally like that, but I didn't have patience that day. Nevertheless, she should have done the right thing and apologized profusely then offered a discount or a coupon for next time or SOMETHING. Heck, if she would've just apologized profusely and said she couldn't give a discount, fine, I would've been okay with that, but no, she just blamed me for not calling them in the middle of the night. I cannot recommend this place - go to Best Western, it's WAY better and is the hotel I switched to - Southgate lost my second night of business and I will continue to not recommend them since I actually live in the area and am asked for hotel recommendations...
Read moreI have now been staying here for 6 weeks, despite some initial problems with one of the managers I've decided to revise my review to 3 stars instead of 1. Most of the staff is courteous, pleasant, and respectful. The housekeeping staff has done a wonderful job maintaining my Room and have not been invasive at all. The hotel is very clean and modernized and rooms are very spacious and have adequate Room to work If you require that. The ladies behind the counter have been very nice to us and most accommodating. I actually decided to check out because of booking issues and after deliberating, myself and my team will not be returning.
The floors are creaky, there is just no way around that. You will hear whoever is above you walking, and whoever is below you will hear you moving around. Wifi is terrible but that is likely the local provider and not signal strength. I've never taken breakfast here, and it doesn't look like they serve a very hearty breakfast but Denny's is outside the front door. There are nice things in the gift shop area of the front desk, and the hotel is kept very clean. The location is suitable for my project but I will be moving my men to Mariposa for the rest of my project.
This is not a bad place to stay but if you are here for a long time be prepared to be shuffled, be prepared to hear noises, and be prepared to be bottlenecked by poor internet speeds if your work requires bandwidth.
Aside from that there is nothing noteworthy about this place, and don't come expecting warm hospitality, in fact the manager I dealt with is the sole reason my team and I will never return to this hotel, nor can I ever recommend to my contractors to book their hard...
Read moreWe stopped here for one night when we visited Yosemite National Park, it's about 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive to Yosemite Valley, which is very close and convenient. We arrived late in the night, there were 2 persons at check-in, so everything went smoothly. Big parking lot, when we arrived was full, but I managed to find a spot. Room was big, with 2 queen beds, very comfortable and everything was clean inside and well maintained. They have a lot of storage spaces in the room, and I really like the idea of a make-up table next to the sink, as you can see in the pictures. Bathroom was clean and spacious, with everything you need to enjoy a nice shower after a day of hiking. It was also a bar area where you can find coffee machine and tea and a separated sink to use it. Breakfast was good, you can grab something before you go, but they can improve it a lot. They offer scrambled eggs and sausages, cereals, bread and bagels, muffins, yogurt, juices and coffee. I really didn't like how they put the milk, it was 3 bottles, a gallon each in a fridge ( see pictures ). I don't know if every day is the same thing because we stay only 1 night. Also I don't like the area for the tables at the breakfast, you have a few tables to sit, and then you have a bar with high chair to sit surrounding the table, but when you try to sit there, you feel like you sit in the head of the people from the table. Overall is a nice place to stay closed to Yosemite, at a good price, remember you have to drive to Yosemite Valley, but is a nice drive. As I say they can improve some things at the breakfast. Clean and big rooms, nice people at...
