We came here after hiking Lewis Creek Trail (since our original Yosemite hike was cancelled due to the Ferguson fire) and playing for a few hours at Bass Lake. We were beat and looking for a seat down dine-in restaurant. We found this place via Yelp. We were greeted and seated promptly for a group of 9.
We ordered egg drop soup, kung pao chicken, vegetable delight, string beans, sweet and sour pork, orange chicken, mapo tofu, and broccoli beef. Service was prompt and attentive, that I will give them, but their food was mediocre at best and ranges closer to Cantonese style since everything was on the bland side. Almost all the dishes lacked flavor and cooked much differently than what I'm familiar with in the SGV back in LA (where we have a huge Chinese community).
Egg drop soup: Probably the best dish we ordered. Dashes of egg and corn, but it was still very light in flavor though. Kung pao chicken: The worst dish by far. I took one bite and had to spit it out. It tasted like over boiled chicken making it tough in texture and it was spicy in a very offensive way that made my taste buds cringe (usually supposed to be cooked with chili peppers giving it nice aromatic spiciness). Vegetable Delight: Hard to mess up this one since most of it was just boiled vegetable in a goopy mess of starch. Decent dish. String Beans: Very mediocre. Tasted more like it was boiled then sauteed with onions when it's supposed to have a nice crisp and cooked with minced meat. It was limp...
Read moreChina Not Delight. Clearly understaffed and/or bad work flows. We were waiting for 5 minutes for the front of house to finish up a take-out order. An old couple who I assumed were the owners were just sitting there talking to each other when they could easily sit us at a table.
We waited another 15 minutes just to order, asking 3 different servers to order and got told to wait. There were so many tables waiting to order, then they put in all orders at the same time which will clearly overload the kitchen. Waited another 25-30 mins for food.
What I don’t understand is the efficiency of this place. The front of house was doing everything from seating customers, taking both dine-in and take-out orders and serving tables. The other two servers seemed to have less workload than the front desk, but were slower - seemed like they were floating around and didn’t know what to do at some point. The old couple went in and helped from time to time. Otherwise, they were just sitting there when the place was packed. There was clearly no structure, no sectioning, no organization. The saddest thing is the food was good! And, I think they have enough manpower to provide good services. The bad organization just brought the whole...
Read moreWe were hungry after hiking all day and decided to eat some Chinese food. To start off, we stood at the counter waiting for someone or anyone to help us for at least 15 min as workers walked past us like we were not there. Finally, we asked a worker walking past us for seating, and they sat us down with a bit of attitude. Whatever, they did not care! we ordered their combo platter, chow mein was good, rice was good, Mongolian beef so so, beef broccoli so so, the hot ans sour soup had a wet dog smell, then came the chicken fried rice!!!! I do not know where or what planet the chicken came from or if it was even chicken, It was the most disgusting, unfavorable protein we have ever had. The color was even off the charts. It looked like it was glow in the dark plastic. I would avoid this place if in town, I'm sure they do ok because the town is small and do not offer a lot of choices. I did contemplate asking them to remove the fried rice, but i know they would argue or worse and blame us, so i just let it go. Definitely find somewhere else to eat chinese food. The pictures of the chicken don't even do justice. It was absolutely disgusting, and employees are disgruntled, except for the American kid working there....
