When we arrived, I said to my wife that the photos online of the hotel must have been taken 20 years ago. Inside to the reception desk. That went smoothly except for the fact that one of the people behind the counter looked like he just rolled out of bed. Not very professional looking or welcoming. Into the elevator to head to the room and most of the signs in the elevators were either ripped out unreadable. Guess that's too much trouble to fix?? When we got to the room, the sign on the door said No Smoking, just as the rest of the hotel claims to be. When entering the room, it was obvious that it had been just smoked in by the previous occupant. What a lovely smell that is. Checking out the room, the carpets were stained and not vacuumed. One of the chairs around the table was completely ripped. A big coffee stain on the counter. We purposely left it there to see if it would be taken care of. It wasn't. Not for the entire week!! Out to the balcony to see the view. It was a nice view. Would have been really nice except for the people right next door smoking on their balcony where yet another sign says no smoking. The bathroom seemed ok. There was a tub/shower combo. When we took showers, we realized how skinny the showers were. The shower curtain was always against you, which is kinda gross. A curved shower rod would have given ample room. Down to the Epic Bar and Grill to get a snack. We walked in to find almost every table full of dirty dishes and half eaten food, although the entire place only had 2 people in it. We found a spot at the bar. The waitress came over and dropped 2 menus in front of us and said the grill was down, so we could only order fried items. Then she walked away without asking if we wanted a drink. We waited 5 minutes for her to come back and then we left. Not sure if she even noticed. Went across the hall to Buono Vita Pizzeria. The food looked disgusting. Didn't eat there either. At the pool, there is a bar. The thatched roof on the bar is half missing. Really, why wouldn't you fix this? The bartender was on her phone the entire time. Guess cleaning or being social to your quest isn't in her job description. The pool was nice. The complimentary pool towel that are part of your resort fee, were the size of a hand towel and could be used to sand wood. Now don't go thinking that we are used to staying in fancy hotels, so we just like to complain when we don't get white glove treatment. Just the opposite. We are regular folks that like simple accommodations. Simple doesn't mean dirty. Simple doesn't mean poor service. Simple doesn't mean run down. We will go else where if we go back...
Read moreStayed with my family for a week, and as a precaution for an immunity deficient family member, we brought wipes to re-clean our room to be safe. We were so surprised by how dirty it was(see photo). This place was very outdated with dirty stained carpets. We didn't even feel comfortable walking on the floor barefoot and with good reason. I had my 1yr old in socks in the room, and the results on her socks made me sick(see photo). The crib provided was rusted and looked like it came from an abandoned ward(see photo). The tight space bathroom was annoying, and having NO ventilation was ridiculous. After a shower, the bathroom was filled with steam, i couldn't change into my clothes or dry my hair until i aired it out. It also had the vent falling off above the tub (sketchy location) and clumps of dust coming out. A foul smell came from the jacuzzi water, which was accidentally switched on on a few things. The result of that was a nasty musty smell on our wagon fabric and beach mat. Our room had 2 beds, and of course, luck have it, i got the broken bed (see pic). Not just the frame, but the box spring was also broken. The service desk and maintenance was quick to have specific issuses fixed (bed, vent, supplies) so they did well on that but there just needs to be a deep cleaning done with real germ killing chemicals like clorox or lysol and new carpets are heavily needed (there is no point of saving or even steaming the existing one). The cleaning crew was very helpful in following directions and providing the supplies (we requested vacuuming the room during our stay, no other cleaning). Epic bar and grill: DONT EAT THERE!! Poor service, not family friendly, mediocre menu with no kid menus, and we saw cockroaches on the wall and table. I tossed out the food, and we left. The tropical eatery had some very lazy and slow servers. We thankfully had a server who was fast, efficient, and checked on us (we tipped him well), while others were moving at a snails paste, looking checkout themselves (never ate there again). The 24-hour coffee place was perfectly clean and provided great food & service. Beach location is good. The pool was nice, but the chairs were moldy on the edges, old and outdated. I understand why they covered them with blue sheets for their website photo. Overall, there were more compliants about this place than there were compliments. We had so much hope from their "4 stars" we saw but left with so much...
Read moreokay overall I will say I had a great experience with this hotel. location is great considering you are right on the boardwalk, however you are down a bit. if you want to get down to all the shops and food, you’re going to have to walk a bit (or catch the tram/bus). but the hotel and the area surrounding kinda have enough if you even only choose to stay around the hotel and Uber/walk to restaurants/bars. the hotel itself definitely feels old. not in per say a bad way, but then you can see its old was play out in odd stains or marks, or just that true “old hotel smell.” again not horrible, but don’t expect the grandness the name implies. we had a running joke that the indoor section of the breakfast restaurant on the 6th floor was soo creepy. we opted to sit outside but service was SO slow. it honestly seemed anywhere we went whether we were the only people there or not, service was incredibly slow. the room itself was nice but there were a couple of issues. A few weird marks/stains on the ceiling or the floor. Nothing big nor anything that seemed unsafe. But there was a bar missing on our balcony, and because all rooms balcony’s are connected, this meant if our neighbor wanted to, they could easily have walked over to our balcony/room. But still I’d say opt get the ocean front view, the balcony is worth it. We were able to see the full moon on the water and it was so pretty!! Downside is there may be people smoking on your floor, and because the building’s circular the smoke will just waft your direction if you’re on the wrong side of them. Also our hairdryer in the room (attached to the wall) didn’t work, but after calling down to the front desk we were able to get maintenance to the room within about 30 minutes to replace it. However, now I know to test that upon entry to a room instead of when I need it. 30 minutes was fast but sometimes when you’re in a rush, it’s just not fast enough. But kudos to the team there for a perfect execution of a request. I will say the best thing about this place is convenience! Being able to get a drink or treat from the cafe at any time, or any of the other little conveniences that the place has to offer is great. so yeah 4/5 mainly due to it being so old! they just need a simple paint job and carpet remodel and it would just feel so much more lively and welcoming. also want to note the rooms felt/smelled good! you would walk in from the hallway to the room and it would truly...
