First nature created the beach then she created the dog to keep it company.
Anchorage Inn & Marina has you covered for a place to stay on Ocracoke with your four-legged friend. Located in the heart of Ocracoke Village it overlooks Silver Lake providing stunning views both day and night.
There are four floors. The upper floors are serviced with two staircases located on the left and right of the building and a elevator located on the left (looking at the building). The rooms closest to the elevator have the lowest number, 101 on the first floor. The first floor is easily accessible for those with mobility issues. There is a wooden sidewalk that goes between the two front parking areas. Unloading your vehicle is easy.
Ice can be found on the second and fourth floors. Wi-Fi is provided and it is comprable with other places we have stayed on the island. Verizon is my cell phone provider and I choose to use them for data needs. Download speeds average 50 Megs. A pool can be found across the street.
The most popular place to watch the sunset on Ocracoke is the boat ramp next to the ferry terminal. A nice crowd gathers each evening. It is a 5 minute walk from inn.
Dog Pro Tips:
The staff at the inn love your furry faced friend as well. After the easy check-in process you may be offered a biscuit for your buddy.
The rooms located nearest the elevator have more foot traffic and noise. If that bothers your dog try to rent a room with a higher number.
Overlooking the marina and the harbor your will find a picnic area with several grills and tables. There is a nice area for your furry faced friend to stretch their legs with ample room to run around.
Ramp 70 can be found just outside the village and provides the quickest access to the beach. You will be making tracks in the sand in 5 minutes. Check with Tradewinds tackle for current beach access and permit information. Alan & Melinda can help you with all of your fishing needs as well.
Bring plenty of water for you and your friend. Make sure you both have access to shade and get plenty of rest. The beach is tiring for everybody.
Ocracoke Island is an enchanted place. Add a dog and you have a great...
Read moreAwful incident! 10 minutes after we checked-in at the Anchorage Inn & Marina in Ocracoke, a male house keeper entered the room when my wife and I were about to be intimate. He did not knock before entering. He stood there starring at us after opening the door, and I yelled at him “close the door!”.
I spoke with the manager Kara Koziar. She acted like it wasn’t a big deal and blamed this mistake on “we let you check-in early and the house keepers do another check before 3PM”. So if what she says is true, I’m assuming this happens frequently?
The only rectification I received from Kara was her business card and she said I could leave a bad review if I wanted and I was free to mention her name. So, here we are.
I have uploaded a photo of the basket for their arrivals outside their front office for anyone to grab, with peoples first and last names and room number.
Think about it -
We were walked-in on by a housekeeper, and we actually talked to and checked-in with the manager.. Anyone could grab their keys without talking to anyone from the basket sitting outside of the front office (displayed the the photo), or anybody else’s keys for that matter, the keys are sitting outside for guests arriving that day with their first name, last name AND room number. You would think the Manager Kara would have remembered to relay this information to housekeeping as this is a SECURITY ISSUE.
Poor management skills from Kara all around. If she had been honest and gave me a genuine apology upfront I would have been happy.
Coming from someone who works in the hotel industry, I know that is is unacceptable. Kara Koziar aka Karen needs more training. I was shocked with the way the incident was handled from the management at Anchorage Inn & Marina in Ocracoke NC.
In addition, I called back to see if I could speak with the GM about this issue before I posted this review. I spoke with Kara, and she informed me over the phone that she is also the general manager. When I referenced why I was calling she started getting aggressive and the...
Read moreEnjoyed stay, some pluses and minuses I’ll try to sum up quickly:
Pro’s: -Very close to ferry, marina, restaurants, free trolley for island. -Older hotel but well maintained and clean. Nice square footage in room. -Functioning ice machine on our floor (many hotels have perpetually ‘out of order’ ice machines) -Refrigerator decent sized, not tiny. -All rooms appeared to have great view of water / marina -decent sized refrigerator -cable, TV, AC, etc all worked well.
Con’s: -Parking was a complete mess. Between many people have a golf cart AND car, plus the parking lot being shared between hotel AND restaurant across the street AND marina there is a 3rd of the parking needed and no back up parking lot (to my knowledge). Also no street parking. I had golfcart double parking next to me which caused me to take 10+ minutes to get out of my spot (not an exaggeration) without hitting multiple vehicles. It was parked like that for 18+ hours. I’m sure staff noticed. Plus golfcarts have no designated spaces and no parking lines are drawn so many are just parked carelessly taking up multiple spots. Golf carts should have strict rules and separate parking areas. You shouldn’t have a 4’x7’ golf cart taking up 1-1/2 full sized Ford F350 sized spaces. -Wifi terrible, constantly going offline and making you log in hourly regardless. And while it isn’t the hotel’s fault my T-Mobile connection for both calls and data did not work at hotel. With decent wifi this would have been much less of an issue. Again, not blaming hotel for T-Mobile’s problem but just don’t plan around being able to use their wifi. -A microwave would have been nice -No human interaction checking in / out of hotel. You pickup and drop off your keys in a little wicker basket ;)
Again, I...
