I'll start off by saying this is the second or third place to stay closest to the ferry and that's why we chose to stay here. We got to Ocracoke early and immediately waited for them to open so we could book a room (which I suggest because when we came back around 230 to check in they were full.) They had two types of rooms, two full beds or one larger (king or queen?) bed. We chose the two full beds and paid around $100 for a one night stay and check in was at 230-3. We stayed in room 4 which was downstairs. If you come to visit do NOT stay in this room. It was right next to the ice machine and at all hours of the night people were coming to get ice because they're drinking in their rooms and it's unbelievably loud. This is an older building so people walking around in the rooms next to us or above us was also very loud and obnoxious all night long. The beds were not very comfortable and there were a few bugs. We were only in Ocracoke for a day so we packed light and figured that where we stayed would have simple amenities. We didn't have any tiny shampoo/conditioner bottles while staying here, we were given two small bars of hand soap for the sink and the shower. So if you're just picking up to go on a last minute day or two trip, pack everything you will need. We did have access to the motels dock located across the street so we had a beautiful view. Like I said, it's very close to the ferry and that's what we wanted so if that's what you're looking for...
Read moreWhen we arrived at Ocracoke and went to the hotel we thought we had reserved more than a month before, we discovered there was another hotel by the same name as the one on Ocracoke but in Atlantic Beach and we had put down a deposit on the wrong one. We couldn't get our deposit back and there seemed to be very few rooms in our price range. Our daughter and her fiance were with us and so we needed 2 rooms. The folks at Sand Dollar in Ocracoke and the folks at Harborside found us 2 rooms at Harborside for all but one of the nights and so the last night we all ended up in 1 rm. It was a very laid back place where you could hang towels out on a clothes line in front of your room and our downstairs neighbors had put up a tent in the parking spaces in front of their rooms where they cooked some of their meals and sat out in chairs. No one was rowdy or loud late at night and the other tennants were friendly. Our room was clean and we were provided with enough linens and soap. Shampoo and conditioner would have been nice to have had. The rooms were a little musty and my husband feels there was something there that got his allergies going and he ended up with bronchitis after we got home. The location was great for walking or biking most anywhere and it was not noisy despite being in the thick of things. All in all it was an...
Read moreNo much amenities provided except for soap. I knew that going in so I was prepared with my own toiletries. The toilet filled up when flushed in my room. I called front desk to get it fixed and was told that it was normal. She said all island toilets were water efficient and it's normal for them not to flush and fill up. I asked for someone to take a look at it anyway because the toilet was about to overflow and could not be used. I was then told that the maids were busy and to help myself to the plunger located by the ice machine. I plunged the toilet myself and it started to flush properly. That was a lame excuse for lazy employees. Upon returning home, I noticed that my family and I were getting bug bites. We got them on the island and thought they were all mosquito bites, but they turned out to be bed bugs. I called the motel to warn them so that other people would not be affected. The same woman immediately make excuses again and denied that they have no bugs or have ever had any bed bugs. She even went as far as to say that the entire island has never had any bed bugs! Then she said I got bugs from somewhere else. (I didn't stay in any other hotel/motel.) Stay there if you want to be frustrated. I'm...
