So far, so good. We checked in yesterday. Will be checking out tomorrow. I want to stay longer. The view from the front of the hotel is amazing. Even if you get a room in the back, it isn't much of a walk to see the front. Next time we come, I want a room on that side where I can hear the ocean more and sit on the balcony watching the waves. We have a baby, and they were very accommodating with giving us a room with a bathtub. She enjoyed the soak after a long day of exploring. The man checking us in was super friendly. We got to town a couple hours earlier than expected, but our room was ready, so he let us check in and get unpacked early. Having a baby in tow, I really appreciated being able to have that extra time to unwind after driving, instead of having to go explore while the room was getting ready, or we hit the magical check in time.
Booking the room, I had read the other reviews about it being a no frills place. While that is true, the service, price, location, and comfort are unparalleled. Sure, they don't have an in room coffee maker, but let's be honest, who drinks that swill anyway. They have coffee, hot coco, and tea in the office in the morning. Sure, they don't have breakfast options in the hotel, but there are many great dining options nearby, and the money saved on staying here makes dining out more affordable anyway. The "frills" they lack don't really matter when the room is comfy, clean, and located right next to everything we came here to do.
I'm extremely happy I chose to book here, and this will be our go to hotel for all our trips...
Read moreOcean Front Rooms - Excellent because of distance to the water (20 yards). I don't know of other hotels this close to the water South of San Francisco and north of Carmel. I hope they stay here. The best value and outstanding view.
I think about this motel often when I envisioned sitting in a chair and enjoying the sound of waves breaking as I watch the waves crashing on the rocks. I personally think this is a hidden gem, a little rough on the edges but nevertheless a little gem.
During this trip, I watched a group of three sea otters camped out in the water. That was pretty cool. I came here to hear and watch the ocean. As always it meets and exceeds my expectations. It's a great blessing!
I don't expect any luxury items at this motel, however the old school rooms, have a bouncy bed, small bath and shower, and small closet, but a great gas heater if you need or want it. I cannot rate this motel higher because it's not a five star motel. I come here because of the distance of the room to the water. The only thing separating the building and the water is the two-lane road. After 11 PM very few cars drive by. During the day it has more traffic. Free parking. Coffee in the managers office in the morning.
Plenty of great restaurants within 10 minute walking or...
Read moreIf you're going to stay here one night then I might recommend it. However, I would say you have a 50/50 chance of enjoying yourself for any longer.
Pros - Clean, close to the water and restaurant.......inexpensive??
Cons - Old building, not up to modern standards. The outlets are two prong, my laptop is three prong. I had to plug my LT in the bathroom to charge. The bed we stayed in was awful which equals a sore back after 3 days. The showers are of 32 inch, the smallest shower which is permitable. If you are a large person or not agile, taking a shower would be a chore. The televisions are the old 19 inch tube type.....wow! who has those anymore? The internet is slow, reminds me of the old dial up. It is also very limited. If you do any kind of downloads or work on your computer......forget it!
I had to knock on the ceiling and walls, go next door and knock on the door to quite the very noisy people. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. One reason is because the building is very old.
Let's talk about price. Groupon and Amazon Local offers a deal at the Monterey Hyatt for $119 per night...what???? 10 bucs more and I can live in luxury????
Last time at the Borg,...
