I would not recommend this place to anyone who is looking for anything other than just a cheap, older place to stay where you don't expect much and you don't get much, other than a place to sleep.
Don't get me wrong, the employees are generally friendly and hard-working, but the management is not composed of people with whom you would want to have any dealings, especially on a personal level.
My room is not particularly comfortable, and all of the electronics are either broken, malfunctioning, or just plain worn out. If any of the money that is earned on the not-quite-inexpensive rooms was used to replace the broken or worn out equipment, and some of the money was used to refurbish the place, the location is actually pretty decent.
The desert Lodge is a really good example of how the management can truly make all the difference in the world between an unpleasant stay and a pleasant one, even in the condition that it is right now.
If you love Palm Springs already, or you just want to explore and to experience the place that holds what was once the "Olde Tyme Palm Springs Experience (my name for it)," and you don't have enough money to afford a 4 or 5 star hotel or Resort, then by all means, this might be your place, especially if you aren't expecting much of anything to begin with.
Cheap and inexpensive by today's standards, with small, well-worn rooms, a mostly friendly staff, and a good location, all equal a place to stay for a launching pad to the excitement that can be Palm Springs. Also, if you are looking for a place to stay during the Coachella happenings, and you aren't expecting to spend much time in any hotel room to begin with, then this also could be your place.
Just remember, "buyer beware," and you will probably be okay, worn-out or broken equipment and all. The staff will smile at you and ask you how you are, and you can get fresh towels and such from the front desk, but other than that the offerings are fairly sparse. If that suits you just fine, then you are golden.
Myself, if I had it to do all over again, I would have kept going until I found any setting in a similar price range with maybe one more star. However, it's too late to start over now, so I guess I just have to settle for what I received.
Honestly, I say "Good luck!" because you just may need it...depending on the day. There isn't much else that I can add, so consider yourself well-informed and...
Read moreIf you're looking to stay at a property that is quaint and a place reminiscent of a motor lodge from years gone by, this is definitely that type of place. This is not a corporate chain hotel, but a “Mom & Pop” type motel. Harry and his family run this property, are extremely friendly and quite knowledgeable of the area. They strive to accommodate each and every guest as best as is possible.
This lodge is centrally located in Palm Springs and the neighborhood is easy to walk or bike. But, even with a noticeable Palm Springs P.D. presence in the area, we highly recommend travelers drive or get a ride to restaurants and attractions between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. because the area gets a little dicey overnight.
Yet don't let that info discourage you from visiting this lovely place. The rooms are very secure and grounds monitored by an abundance of CCTV cameras throughout. The housekeeping staff keep the rooms very clean and make sure guests have what they need to make their stay pleasant.
There is a pool and sunbathing area with a cash-only soda vending machine on the grounds; two shuffleboard courts are just steps away. Other amenities include free WiFi with poolside being the best spot to get a decent signal. There is a guest launderette; $3 to wash, $2.25 to dry at the time this review was published.
There is a variety of fast-food restaurants and stores within walking distance. Public transit is directly out front of the motel. Taxicabs and ride-shares usually respond within minutes and delivery services go directly to your room.
When booking this motel, keep in mind this is an older property run by an on-premise innkeeper and his family. While this place isn't filled with all the latest gadgets and amenities other hotels may offer, you can't beat the reasonable rates, friendly service and ultra-convenient location. Desert Lodge is fully ADA compliant. Property is non-smoking. Check-In starts at 4:00 p.m. Check-Out at 11:00 a.m. Pets welcome at an additional fee. They speak English,...
Read moreI made phone reservations for the Miramonte Resort and Spa in Indian Wells, CA. That was my first mistake but I had stayed there before so I thought it would be OK. Reservations were for 4 days and I planned on meeting 8 employees for dinner and festivities. I wanted a full service hotel for meetings, dinner and a bar.|I arrive at the Miramonte and the lobby door was locked, I looked inside and the lobby was under construction. I found a direction sign about 200 feet from the hotel entrance, it directed me to the side of the building. I checked in and asked about the restaurant and dinner reservations. The guy at the front desk pointed to a small room with sheets hanging on the wall and 4 or 5 tables. That is the new restaurant and bar. It turns out that the restaurant, bar and lobby are under construction, I was not told this when I made the reservations on the phone. |This caused problems but directly across the highway there is a Hyatt that has a great restaurant. |There were understandably not many room rented and on day 3 I requested housekeeping. The front desk did not rely the request to housekeeping but I found a worker and again requested that my room be cleaned. She checked with the front desk and was given permission to clean my room. I left and returned to the hotel about 7 pm. Housekeeping had been there but they failed to take dirty towels and dirty glasses but to top it off she made the bed but did not change the sheets. I have never had that happen before.|They also charge a Resort Fee, I think it was $39 a day. The only thing open was the pool. I was not told about the resort fee when making reservations. |I will not be returning to the Miramonte and advise you to check out everything before making...
