We stayed here for two nights from Friday-Sunday. We booked a king room with pool balcony. Check-in was quick, being Marriot members we received $10 off self park. Lobby was neat with appealing walkways, views of the pool, and a lovely "hotel" scent that lingers near. Our room was on the third floor, nearly at the very end of a very long hallway. We knew we were close to the end because of some tables and shelves that laid randomly like rubbish near our room, in which was kept there our entire stay. Being at the end of a hallway meant quieter stays but also unmaintained areas with a hoard of mess, a big sore eye for being a Marriot. Speaking of unmaintained, as soon as we entered our room we went to the fridge to chill our cans. The cabinet cover of the fridge was barely holding on, as the door of the cabinet did not align to open or close properly. We noticed a large amount of water damage to the cabinet case, where the structures integrity was about to collapse: wiggling and wobbling like a broken shelf with many loose ends. Called front desk immediately to report the damages. They had a maintenance man come by to inspect it. He really tried his best to maintain its integrity, but alas he too couldn't save it. He ended up pulling the entire cabinet on a cart with my husband's help, but during this process the cabinet broke and folded into several pieces, with chunks and debris all over the carpet. Couldn't help but laugh at the situation but held it as the maintenance man looked distressed. Anyways it was hauled out of our lives. Called front desk to let them know about the messy debris left, but even after we had dinner and returned nothing was vacuumed. In fact an air mattress bed was made over it, topped with pillow, sheet, and blanket. A request not by us and/or poor communication, because they made it over the wooden debris left from earlier, how odd instead of cleaning them preparing the air mattress. Told front desk again about the situation. This time house keeping came within a few minutes to vacuum. And before she left I asked if she could take away the air mattress that we did not request. She seemed confused as to why I wanted it put away, I don't blame her it's nicely made set-up, BUT we did NOT request it! She deflated the air mattress and finished vacuuming the rest of the area.
You're probably wondering: why the long review or unnecessary list of details? With the simplist amenities a hotel could offer, during our stay grew into a list of inconveniences.
Pro: spacious pool with many chairs, beautiful lobby with updated facade, clean property, lots of parking, filtered water in the gym, and a microwave near ice machine. Service here is wonderful, front desk were friendly and quick to assist.
Con: 1. unmaintained (older) hotel: room thermostat limited to 69 °F but only blew at the front region and not at the bed side facing direct heat from the window balcony, which made sleeping warmer. Fitness center AC must have been broken since it was stuffy and warm, we requested for the fan setting to circulate or have the AC on, instead they brought a box fan. If it were broken they could have posted a sign regarding the issue, but instead tried to bandaid the situation; no one wants to be in a stuffy recreational area. Cable machine missing basic attachments such as handles. There was a cheese platter that was hanging outside a room at the entry of our floor. Which looked tasty when we first noticed it, but each time we walked by it just became a sore eye of grossness as it was never cleaned up, until next day afternoon. At first I liked their Aveda products. Then in the morning before checkout I went to rinse my hair. Come to find out the conditioner was watered down, unlike the viscous feel of the shampoo and body wash. Very disappointing to notice that. Toilet also had more flow, multiple flushes with minimum use.
I wouldn't stay here again. Felt like a rundown hotel of Vegas. Lots of maintenance and update, and this place could...
Read moreHorrific hotel with NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! I simply do not believe the five star reviews whatsoever. Our room had NO WORKING AIR CONDITIONING, and when I called the front desk about it, I could tell immediately by their unconcerned response that they’ve heard this many times before and it was just the norm. They sent someone from the hotel to fix it and it took more than triple as long as they promised. We waited for two uncomfortable hours in a scorching hot room, unable to rewind, bathe, and relax after being outside for hours in 106 degree heat exploring downtown Palm Springs, which is a one mile walk from the hotel. When maintenance finally arrived, he told me that rooms without a working air conditioner were normal and he was always having to try and get them going again. I saw the unit and it looked extremely old and worn out; immediately I had no confidence his repair was going to have any lasting effects. And, it did not. It was extremely loud, buzzing, and straining very hard at getting to or keeping the room at 76 degrees (FORGET IT if you need cooler, but all we were asking for was 76). I knew it wasn’t going to hold up. We could barely sleep from the loud buzzing and banging sound. I didn’t even bother calling the RUDE and HOSTILE front desk again after my initial encounter with them when I complained about the air conditioning. They were lower caliber than Knights Inn. It was clear to me rather quickly that this hotel could care less, is WELL AWARE the air conditioning does not work in the rooms as well as throughout the entire hotel, and are just overcharging for stays based on photos taken many years ago, taking your money fully well knowing there are MANY ISSUES with the hotel’s condition. The pool had its issues, as well. We spent as much of our time as possible at the pool to escape our sweltering room. There was ONE AND ONLY ONE WORKING UMBRELLA. ALL of the umbrellas had seen better days and were in extremely poor condition with missing pins to secure the umbrella. We checked every single umbrella surrounding the pool and there was only one working, but a family was using it. Thankfully, they were leaving and saw us struggling with umbrellas collapsing on our heads one after another, so they gave us theirs when they left. As more people came to enjoy the pool, I felt terrible as they struggled to find one umbrella that would stay up to protect them from the sun. Not a single other working umbrella other than the one we were fortunate enough to be given. Staff didn’t bat an eyelash. Not one came to assist or provide a missing pin to secure. Mind you, it was well over 100 degrees in blazing hot sun. During our stay, we did not feel comfortable pressing our luck further by even trying any food offerings. We ate in downtown Palm Springs. And then the room. It was very old, dated, in rough condition, furniture broken and or falling apart. And I’ll say it again, NO AIR CONDITIONING! In the middle of the night unable to sleep from misery, I got on my phone and started looking up various sights for reviews. I saw and read what I had figured…that these issues had been going on for YEARS. There were complaints on no air conditioning going back YEARS. The Health Department needs to get involved and this Renaissance Place needs to be investigated for fraudulent business practices, monies refunded to those wronged, and shut down. We travel the country and the world, and this place was the rock bottom worst of anywhere we’ve ever been. Couldn’t wait to check out and get out of our misery. This place is UNACCEPTABLE!! Do not believe these five star reviews or the website photos, which are completely unrepresentative of what you’ll be getting and extorted out of money for. Complete...
Read moreI’ve never been so excited to write a review (which, I don’t ever write reviews unless I feel very strongly about it)! We have traveled a lot over the years, and I can say with 1,000 confidence that the Renaissance Hotel in Palm Springs, CA is THE BEST HOTEL we have ever stayed at!! The customer service we received was superb!! ACROSS THE BOARD—from the concierge, to the restaurant staff, to the grounds keepers/maintenance staff, to the housekeeping staff, to the front desk staff—ALL OF THEM ARE SUPERIOR TO ANYTHING we’ve experienced! There literally isn’t one negative thing we could say!
We were staying there for a work conference for my husband. I have Lupus and unfortunately it decided to flare up worse than ever before during the first couple days we were there. I was in such horrible pain I couldn’t even walk to the elevator and could only lay in bed. I reached out to Gordy at the concierge to find out where there was a nearby pharmacy or drugstore that my husband could go to pick up a heating pad and medications. Immediately and without hesitation Gordy said, “no, I will go right now! You’re in pain and your husband needs to be at his conference, I will go get anything you need right now.” He also got me set up to have an in room massage to help relieve the pain. In less than an hour I had the massage set up for that afternoon, and I had my heating pad and medications. Gordy was seriously a Godsend and by the next day I was back on my feet and able to enjoy the rest of our trip and go do things!! This would have never been possible without the care and supportive assistance from Gordy!!
On our first day of the trip before the Lupus had me completely down for the count, my husband helped me get to the restaurant for breakfast. Our waitress was Janeth. Another angel in disguise! She could see I was in pain and she went out of her way to get me everything I needed for my meal and kept checking on me to make sure she was doing everything she could to help me. My husband fell in love with the salsa and asked Janeth if she would see if the chef would mind sharing the recipe. We had to leave before she got back because of my pain. When we went back to the restaurant three days later she immediately took out the recipe from her pocket and handed it to my husband. She had been carrying it around with her for 3 days just hoping to see us again so she could give it to him. She didn’t have to do that and in fact, most people nowadays wouldn’t be bothered. Most people just wouldn’t care. But Janeth does care and it shows. She takes pride in her work and the service she provides and doesn’t act like it’s just a job. She strives to show that she “genuinely” cares!! The kindness, compassion, and generosity of Gordy and Janeth are something I will never forget and something you just don’t find anymore. And those are just two examples of why the Renaissance Hotel has bar none the BEST staff there is. Like I said—this was the type of caring, attention, and service we received from every staff person we encountered there. AND, to top it off, everything from our room, to the lobby, to the restaurant, to the elevators, to the pool were exceptionally clean and comfortable!! My husband and I just kept looking at one another and saying how beyond impressed we were with this hotel. We didn’t want to leave. There is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION that the next time we go to Palm Springs, WE WILL be staying at the RENAISSANCE...
