My experience can be summarized as disappointed on this Hyatt property, not at the level of the Hyatt experience I expect. This is a very dated, worn down, understaffed, and not very clean hotel with a high price tag. The location is great but I personally will be looking at neighbor hotels next time I’m in the area. Under the same circumstances, I will not be staying here again.
Location: 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This property is located on the heart of Palm Springs. The location is amazing and the nature around is beautiful. You are walking distance to restaurants, shops, Starbucks, the Art Museum, and a Rite Aid. The only reason why I’m giving it 4 stars vs 5 is that it is deep inside the city and traffic to the freeway can be a pain. This was primarily because I was there for the Coachella Music Festival but something to keep in mind if you’re going on a busy time period. 40-50 mins drive each way to the Coachella festival grounds.
Room: 2 ⭐️⭐️
I booked a 1 King Bed Suite and stayed in room 436. My first feeling walking into the room was of disappointment. The room is large enough for 2 people and well insulated from outside noise. The bed was comfortable, providing good sleep quality but that’s where the positives end. The room was terribly dated and worn down. The shower height felt short even for someone who is only 5’8”. Just about all furniture, carpet and decor was dented, stained and old. Fixtures in the restroom showed signs of corrosion. Floor in Terrace was severely damaged. Room was very dark, even with window curtains open.
Cleanliness: 2 ⭐️⭐️
Starting with the most important sections, the bed and restroom. The bed sheets were clean and the restroom surfaces seemed clean enough. However, we did find a brown stain on a towel the first night. We made sure housekeeping changed everything the second day but we truly never felt comfortable or happy to spend time in this room. Everything in this room had stains from the sofa, ottoman, carpet, chairs, the ironing board. This made every “amenity” in the room useless. We also didn’t feel comfortable using the coffee maker or fridge or walking around barefoot in the old, stained black carpet. You can imagine it must take a lot to make stains visible of a black carpet. Lastly, although not inside of the room, the hallway had basic ceiling tiles. One of the tiles close to the entrance of our room showed water damage and mold, not the best welcome.
Service: ⭐️⭐️ Upon check in, the gentlemen behind the counter was courteous and pleasant. The valet was also very helpful with our bags all the way to our room. The housekeeper helped us with all of our request.
The hotel seemed understaffed. Only 1 person was manning the front desk and although there was a desk for Hyatt members with higher status, they didn’t seem to be prioritized. If fact, standing on that line made their check in take longer. Additionally, we had booked 2 separate reservations and upon rechecking in, another room was offered. Given that we weren’t very happy with the first room, we asked to see the second room but ultimately decided to stay in the first room, since the second room wasn’t any better as far as being updated/cleanliness. This decision resulted in being awaken at 3 am by security because they thought we had moved rooms and our original room should’ve been empty. Additionally at check out, I had been overcharged and had to wait for a manager to “fix the issue”, although he didn’t. The charge still made it to my credit card and I had to call again.
Value:⭐️ I paid part of my stay with Hyatt points, but also paid $471.45 plus taxes and fees per night. This resulted in $572.94 per night. Keep in mind that this rate was during the Coachella weekend 1 dates. Nonetheless, I can firmly say, the stay in this hotel room was absolutely not worth the money paid. I wish I could’ve canceled my second reservation but it was too late. In general, I didn’t feel comfortable using the amenities or leaving my things around, I wanted to spend the least time...
Read moreWe stayed here for one night, while we were passing through between San Francisco and Phoenix.||||I had read about this property, and already knew that it wasn't up to a full-service Hyatt standard, but there weren't too many quick, viable options in Palm Springs this time of year if you wanted to be downtown. ||||We arrived at 7pm, and were greeted by a distinct lack of both bell staff and front desk staff. In fact, I think we only saw one or two front desk staff, and that was all, the whole time we were at this property.||||We were told luggage service is not available "that late"... but really... 7pm for a Hyatt branded hotel? It should be full-service, correct? What's the deal? We were not offered any sort of expedited check-in as discoverists, and while there were two bottles of water in the room, and internet worked fine, we were not acknowledged as a part of any loyalty program, and were not offered a late check-out. Since we were only passing through, though, we didn't ask.||||The hotel itself looks a little bit tired, though our room was a large one, as we booked an executive suite. At a whopping 1100 sq ft or so, it was pretty palatial, at least space-wise, and it did have a balcony overlooking the mountains and golf course... I wouldn't call it a "nice" balcony, but at least it was a balcony with two chairs and a light at night.||||Sadly, the air intake for the climate control was located immediately next to one side of the bed, ran all night (even though we had it set to a particular degree and had it on "auto") and made about as much noise as you hear when flying on a plane. ||||I didn't get much sleep, both because of that and because the pillows were ridiculously hollow. For heaven's sake, get some pillows that cost more than $1 each, or at least offer some firm options!||||The bathroom was big, however the bidet was non-functional. The bathroom has not been redone any time recently, the marble looked outdated. The shower was a small, dark box, with small, beige tiles. It had decent waterflow, but both it and the jacuzzi tub looked like they were from the 70s. I would have loved a jacuzzi bath that night, but because of its age, it didn't look clean, so not a chance I was going to use it!||||Don't get me wrong, the room was DECENT, but at a rate of around $400 or so per night for the room type we had, it was not acceptable.||||As for food and beverage choices, there was one very sad looking food outlet in the lobby. It was hard to tell if it was even manned and was not really advertised. It felt like it existed because it HAD to, but they really didn't want you there. It looked like a stomach risk, to be honest. I think there might have been a bar out the front of the property affiliated with the hotel, but again, it was barely manned and looked really sad. So sad, it was hard to tell if it was even opened.||||Self-parking under the hotel was conveniently located, and seemed safe, which is the only reason we parked there, but it was $30 for self-park, when 1 block away, there is a huge, open parking lot which is free, 24 hours. Perhaps they should get some bell staff and valet service as a Hyatt property should have, to make it worth one's while.||||I understand there is a resort fee charged for this hotel. For what? As I said, we saw at most two front desk staff at any given time, and no other staff on-site. There was a pool and hot tub, and a few F&B outlets which were sad, and no services. How can you justify a "resort fee" on a sad property with no resort fee and no services?||||Do yourself a favor and stay at the competition down the road a few blocks, where we went for breakfast. The food was really good down there, and the hotel much nicer and with more services, from the look of it, for about...
Read moreI would give it 3.5 stars if I could. This hotel earns five out of five stars for the location. It's in the middle of all the hot spots downtown. A Starbucks is a four-minute walk south, as are some good local restaurants (Santorini, La Casa Blanca, Maracas) & some chains (Blaze Pizza, Tommy Bahama Grill). A restaurant/bar/club, The Village, is also within walking distance. If you want to trek a few minutes further south, you'll find a Rite Aid where you can get some vacation essentials, souvenirs, and the famous Thrifty Ice Cream. The Marily Monroe statue is also within walking distance as well as the PS Museum of Art.
Aside from that, the hotel is in need of some TLC. The rooms are outdated and show they've had better days. However, they are spacious with a separate living room/lounge area and bedroom with a diving door/walkway between the two. The door comes in especially handy for rooms with a street view as it can get loud. The doors do a good job muting the sound. Surprisingly, the beds are comfortable but the pillows are too soft for my taste. Some may say the rooms are dark, but that's because they have black-out curtains, which are great for light sleepers. The sun is not getting in. The drapes can be pulled back with sheer curtains providing the right privacy in high-traffic areas. Also, there are plenty of lights in the room and overhead.
The room we stayed in faced the street and the putting green, not a bad view. The back view was of the mountains and pool. The pool view was so-so from the second floor. A better pool view would be from the higher floors. The pool itself is small but offers plenty of chairs even on a busy holiday season (Memorial Day weekend). We noticed that outside drinks/food were allowed in the pool. Make of that what you will.
Another positive is that dogs are allowed. We saw plenty of well-behaved pups throughout the hotel. Seeing them there made us miss ours even more.
I was there before in September and had great customer service from Francisco at the front desk. This time, not so much. The guy who checked us in didn't even give his name and didn't offer the welcome drink (glass of wine). After a long day of travel, on our first night, we just wanted to relax on our balcony with a bottle of wine we bought at Rite Aid. Getting a wine opener from the front desk was an impossible task as they didn't have one. We were willing to settle for taking the bottle to the front desk to open it there and leave the opener there, but no luck. The customer service in the restaurant was okay. The avocado toast and egg order was delicious. I wish I could say the same for the coffe, which was lukewarm at best -- both orders and refills. We made use of the pool bar, and the service there was good. While we weren't hungry for a full meal from the menu, they were able to accommodate us with side orders. Unfortunately, room service isn't available, which was a downer. Pool-side orders are provided in pastic containers, not the most environmentally friendly, but I suppose it may be an issue of staffing since the hotel industry hasn't fully recovered yet.
Finally, the $45 parking rate is ridiculous, especially when there's a free public lot right next door. Unfortunately, we discovered it after we had already parked. I'm sure that's where valet cars are parked for $45. The high overnight parking rate is fitting of a 5-star hotel with all the amenities that this hotel doesn't offer. Plus, the $46 daily resort rate should cover parking or at least part of it. Anyway, it's an okay hotel. For a two-night stay, it needs some tweaks to be worth...
