Our stay started nice, but ended with us leaving in the night because of unsuitable room conditions. We recommend caution when booking with The River Lodge, unless you like ants in your room or giving your money away.
After checking into our room, we each enjoyed a beverage in front of our room while swinging in our hammock before heading out for dinner. We were gone for about an hour and a half and when we returned we found trails of ants in our room. We had left our empty drink glasses in the room, which should never be a problem at any hotel room The ants were entering the room from at least three locations. We talked with the lobby desk manager about the ants and he said that since they were a pet friendly motel, the best they could do would be sweep the ants away and sprinkle coffee grounds. He acknowledged that having ants in the room is unacceptable, and they wanted to make it right. We decided to let them do their best to fix the problem, and we would wait an hour to see if the ants would continue to occupy the room.
They offered us a credit for the restaurant so we would have something to do while we were waiting for the ant situation to be handled. We had just come back from dinner, so we did not accept this offer (a nice gesture nonetheless). While we were waiting, we discovered that the couple in the room next to us also had ants intruding into their room.
After an hour of waiting, we returned to the room to find ants again. Much less than before, but they were scattered around the whole room. Bathroom, floors, shower, fridge, snack area, the BED, and the SHEETS. It looked like they were coming from beneath the bed.
It was approaching 10pm, and we explained to the lobby desk manager that sleeping in a bed with bugs in it is completely unacceptable (he agreed). We either needed a different room or a refund. He called his general manager at home and they refused both options. No different room. No refund. Zero. He said that they already offered a credit for the restaurant (that we didn’t want, or use), and that there would be no refund. He offered to change the sheets in the bed, but that he had already tried his best with cleaning the ants. Their solution was not working, and it was getting late. Even though they are “just ants”, it’s unsettling. And when you are spending nearly $500 a night on a room, you shouldn’t have to sleep with ants in your bed. We couldn’t afford to keep letting them try to sweep the ants away, and they weren’t offering to try anything different.
At this time we let the lobby desk manager know that we would not be staying there, and that we have to start looking for a different place to stay. He was sympathetic to our situation, but he also making it seem like the whole thing was our fault. He said we could work things out in the morning with the general manager and gave me his card.
We called the GM the next morning. No answer. Left a message. Never got a call back.
They got our money. We got nothing, except for an insight to how someone can expect to be treated at The...
Read moreRiver is lodge a completely renovated midcentury modern roadside motel dream! The designers here did not miss a single thing. Everywhere you look there are such thoughtful and cute details: the custom furniture, the tiles, the room key hooks, I could go on and on! This place is styled to an absolute t. The pool is the true gem of this property and you feel absolutely transported kicked back on a comfy lounger with a drink from the bar...and it's heated! We were here for one night in a classic king which included a fireplace and front porch with a hammock. The room was spacious and well laid out, the shower towels were super soft and the body care products smelled heavenly. We slept so well in the comfy king bed and loved the croissants they served for breakfast from the local bakery.||All of the staff we encountered were friendly and attentive, and we had dinner at Ciao Papi which was delicious. Couple of things to note: Check your pre arrival email the day of because when you get there it's difficult to know where to park and find the lobby as there are no signs. They've only been open for two weeks so hopefully they'll have better signage soon. As far as noise goes, all of the rooms surround the pool and they play music until 10pm so if you are needing to go to bed very early this may not be the best choice for you. The windows are thin and they do let in a lot of sound from the outside (including your neighbors who might be enjoying their hammocks), however, the actual room walls themselves are super think and we couldn't hear anything from the people on either side of us at night.||Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and wished it was longer. We will absolutely be back next time we are in Paso. I have a feeling this is about to be the new hot...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at the River Lodge the first night it opened, just in time for our honeymoon last week! It was previously a run down motel that has now been totally renovated, and they did a PHENOMENAL job. The rooms are beautifully decorated, complete with a creative mini bar, cozy robes, and a comfortable bed. Every morning breakfast includes various croissants, jam, fruit, and yogurt along with coffee, oat and dairy milk, and orange juice - all delicious! Our favorite part, however, was relaxing by the pool and hot tub. The restaurant/bar Ciao Papi is right by the pool as well, which made the experience above and beyond our expectations! The staff waited on us as we lounged and brought our orders right to our poolside chairs, which was fantastic. We were there for several days and tried nearly everything on the menu, and it was all incredible!! Our favorite were the patatas frittes which we ordered every single day! The cocktails were all delicious and creative as well. The food menu is well balanced with lighter option and heavier dinner entrees and has great vegetarian options if that is your jam. The staff throughout the restaurant and hotel were all incredible and so friendly. They even gave us a free bottle of wine and a free dessert on our last night for our honeymoon! Kind gestures like this are so appreciated, and we were so grateful to spend our honeymoon at such a fantastic place. We will definitely be returning to River Lodge in the future and would recommend to anyone looking for a quick stay or a...
