We typically meet here with my girlfriends to attend the movies down the street. We always have great service, everyone is friendly and food is tasty. This Saturday we sat in the patio. We were in the shade so it was chilly. Asked our server, Xavier if we could move to empty table across from ours because it was in the sun. He said no, that it was reserved. We were freezing and Sasam, the hostess noticed. She stopped at our table to check on us so we asked her if she had a sunny spot for us. She said yes, she moved us to table Xavier told us was reserved but it wasn't. Xavier took a long time to come back, when he finally did, he had an attitude. We ordered. My friend ordered a medium rare burger. Xavier told her "you know that's going to be bloody? Do you still want to order it that way?" My friend said "yes". Xavier in an accusatory tone then asked her in Spanish "if you speak Spanish, why don't you talk to me in Spanish?" That was weird. Our food took forever while we watched everyone around us who got there after we did get their food and drinks refilled, ours were not, nor were we asked. Finally, our food was delivered by someone else, I think the manager. We let him know Xavier was very dismissive and ignored us while he was attentive to everyone else around us. This person got us our check and took care of us for the remainder of our visit. We were going to order dessert and coffee but went elsewhere for that. Xavier then approached our table and said that he didn't know where we were since we decided to move tables on our own, again, in an accusatory tone. He continued with that was the reason he didn't come by to check on us. I told him that we didn't move ourselves, we were moved by their sweet, attentive hostess, Sasam because she noticed we were cold while we watched him take care of everyone else around us so not sure how he didn't see us. He just walked away with an attitude. We usually tip 20% or more, we tipped 10%. I have never had bad service here, ever. I will continue to visit your restaurant but as I told who I think is your manager, we will ask for a different server if we end up with Xavier. He made our friend's birthday lunch uncomfortable and doubled down on his bad service. Food was...
Read moreCarcara is a restaurant located within the Sheraton Downtown Phoenix building, and it looks to be one of the more swankier places to eat and drink in the downtown area, especially when visiting and staying over at the Sheraton hotel. While the location is prime, some menu options feel a bit overpriced, though their menu does carry items that were hard to find within a reasonable walking distance of the hotel.
I struggled with deciding whether the restaurant should get a 4 or a 5 star rating, but ultimately decided upon a 5 star rating because Carcara deserves more than the average of 4.3. The reason is because of their breakfast buffet.
The breakfast buffet was close to 30 dollars per person per meal, but if you plan your whole day around breakfast, it is worth it! There was the standard continental American fare, but it was presented in a much grander setting than your average suburban hotel. This food felt like something closer to a Whole Foods buffet, which can only be described as high quality. I enjoyed treating myself to this breakfast on the last day of a trip. The applewood smoked bacon, cooked to perfection, sold me on the price of admission.
Another menu item was the chocolate cake, which was gluten-free. It seemed that to find another restaurant with a gluten-free chocolate option would be hard in the downtown area, so the premium price of $13 seemed a bit excessive. Parts of the cake were sweeter than other layers, and other layers of it had a creamy texture. If you are simply craving sweets, a more affordable option may be a chocolate bar.
Please note that Carcara closes in the afternoon after the lunch rush, and opens for dinner around 4 PM. If this is a challenge, food can be ordered with the...
Read moreExtremely dissapointed with our experience. Made a reservation prior days prior to arriving for brunch. When picking a time we had the option to pick 1:45 where it was disclosed that we will have 2 hours with the table as well as validated parking. We arrived on time. By the time our order was taken we were informed kitchen and bar closes at 2. We were rushed to order our food in which I was only able to order one drink prior to the bar closing. Not even 30 minutes into eating our meal. WHILE STILL EATING we were asked how many boxes we wanted. I let our server know that we didn’t know yet as we were still eating. He then took it upon himself to choose how many boxes we would need. We were brought the check almost immediately after. I refused to pay for my drink as I only was able to have a couple sips before a bug landed inside. Server wasn’t too happy about that. We then asked for parking validation and were told the person that does that leaves at 2pm. Which again on the reservation it told us we had 3 hours of parking included. After informing the server he came back with a sticker and when validating on my phone it said “validation amount exceeded” then prompted me to pay $32. He let me know it wouldn’t be an issue when we leave the parking garage. We were then rushed out and when leaving the parking lot again were prompted to pay the $32. We were stuck with cars behind us and couldn’t go back to the restaurant because it was now closed. Luckily a garage attendant was nice enough to let us out. If I could give this place 0...
