12/22/2023 my family and I went to spend the day here. I love this place and I’m sure we will be back but this review is based solely on this specific visit. I am waiting for a call back from museum staff and left a voicemail yesterday. I have 2 small daughters both with allergies to foods that cause anaphylaxis. My 5 year old is allergic to all treenuts. We went to the cafe and bought a parfait and were given a small container with no labeling of granola. Before giving my 5 year old the granola for her yogurt I took out a piece to taste it for myself and inspected the food. To my surprise the piece I ate was a nut. It tasted like pecan or walnut. I went up to the counter and asked the young worker who gave it to us what kind of nuts were in the granola. She said none. I told her I just ate a piece of nut out of the container. She then promised me over and over and over that there’s no nuts in the granola. I was baffled at how she was saying this after I just ate one and explained that to her. I went and sat down and told my daughter she could not have it due to there being nuts in it. After a few minutes the worker comes over to me and says “there’s almonds in the granola is that okay” I said “no it’s not okay.” For someone to look a concerned parent in the eye and promise something isn’t there that could send their child to the emergency room or worse was very concerning. At the very least she should have said, “I don’t think there’s any nuts but to be safe let me double check right now.” I don’t want the worker to be in trouble but I want this to be a lesson to all the cafe employees.
My second safety concern is in one of the toddler rooms with the tree house there’s these very strong buckle dog collars hanging on these work bench things. I’ll share a picture here. I took the collars off and threw them in a crate for “disinfecting” I believe it was. Not all parents will follow their kids around the rooms. Maybe they’ll just take a seat and scroll on their phones. No judgement to them. This is supposed to be a safe place for babies and toddlers to play. I feel that this is a strangulation hazard. It only takes 4 minutes without oxygen for the brain to begin to die or cause irreversible damage. And hope with everything in me that these collars are immediately removed from the museum. Typing this now I wish I would have just taken them to the front desk. These are not break away and it took a good amount of force for me to remove them. Im not sure what their purpose is but nonetheless they are not worth risking injury to anyone. (Unable to...
Read moreVery fun for preschoolers and early elementary. I would say 3-9 years old. There are small baby areas and a 3 and under area which is nice if you only have a three or younger but you can't go in there with your older kids so that makes it unusable for me. I would say it's not not worth going just for that. You would be better off going to a play place that is calmer and more aimed at those little kids. Like Jordan's Corner. We have gone at least 10 times.
My CONS I find $17 pricey especially since it's 1 and up and paying for adults. We have done a membership and I feel like it was worth the cost and I would do it again! but even that isn't that great especially how you pay for each person...not really helpful for big families. They do have a discount for families with SNAP benefits but not for WIC like other cities have. We have done the free first Friday. I do NOT reccomend. We had to wait outside in the heat until they let us in and then it was crazy busy inside and we ended up with Hand Foot and Mouth AND influenza A. Weekdays often have field trips. In my experience 250 field trip is OK more than that and it's pretty crazy. The one other thing I absolutely hate is that you have to exit through the gift shop. It would be fine if it was once a year but having to do that every freaking time with three kids when you have membership just sucks. We have noticed it's missing an indoor water area and a vetrinarian/animal type. Play area that my kids loved at Portland and Everett children's museums. You have to get to the museum by 9:30 AM to. Get a ticket ot the group classes. PROS: Afternoons are almost always slow even with field trips during the day they are usually gone by 1. You can see how many field trippers will be there on the website on the Calendar. There are so many rooms to rotate through. My kids love all the areas. Their favorites are the big play area, the art room, the tube room and the restaurant area. We love the garden and sand and water area outside. We pretty much love all the activities. The old building is fun and decorated really cool. I loved watching my 8/9 year old engage in pretend play this year in away that he doesn't really do at home. The classes are really fun. We especially love the EdibleEd classes and the PLAY classes that are taught by an OT. I like that the staff don't let my kids leave a floor without an adult. I love that there is lots of comfortable seating for adults. The nursing room...
Read moreAbsolutely I have no problem giving the Phoenix children's museum five stars.. I came here on a Friday about 9am to 12pm. It was really cool walking up to the museum as they already have fun things outside statues an old car an old piano etc.. there was no wait to buy my ticket.. children under 1 years old are free.. any kids older and adults are $16 each ticket.. this is a pretty fair price considering how fun it is in there for the children.. it did seem to pick up and be a bit busier closer to 12:00pm but still not to crowded....
I don't think there is very much a need to buy tickets in advance....
I didn't have any worries about my child getting hurt.. the jungle gyms were fun and safe.. lots of toddler and baby friendly areas.. lots of homemade cool instruments and crafts around the museum also!!
There was plenty of restrooms and spots to sit down.. feel free to bring a nice light snack like pretzels or a granola bar.. something easy for the kids..
the foam attraction outside was REALLY awesome me and my son LOVED IT!!! The phone attraction does go off every 15 minutes for about 2 to 3 minutes long..... I also enjoyed the outside garden myself...! my son mostly played on the large jungle gym on the first floor...because I think this may be the biggest one.
I did happen to lose my wallet when I was here I'm very happy a Good Samaritan turned it into the front desk..
there are lockers available or a storage area where you are welcome to set your things.. nobody went into my bag it just happened to fall out when I picked it up.. all the other parents and children seemed very friendly.. everybody was in great moods...
The staff was super respectful and pleasant to talk with. Thanks so much for the good customer service!!!
I'm excited to bring my children back for when the Phoenix museum holds classrooms or events... These classroom or event activities are still only $16 the entry fee..
I will probably look towards the future of getting a membership.. I'd highly recommend this place to anybody visiting phx WITH CHILDREN.
I am a born and raised native and this is the first time I have been here. I'm sad I had missed out for so long!! I had a great time with my kiddos..!! Thank you for all you museum staff!! It was a GREAT experience and we will see...
