First and foremost I would like to say this campground (Tillicum in Yachats, Oregon) is in an absolute amazing location with easy beach access and it is kept very clean. Unfortunately, my stay at this campground was absolutely horrible. This was supposed to be a fun camping trip for me, my boyfriend and several close friends. Like many other people COVID had put a huge damper on friend gatherings but this weekend was supposed to be all about creating some fun and positive memories with friends. We are all in our 30s and very responsible and respectful about others around us and fallow camp rules. Now to my story: I had reserved a head of time a campsite on recreation.gov when we arrived on time to check in for our campsite, we could not find the camp host and decided to find our site and see if there was any first come first serve sites available as we decided to have some more friends come out to spend the weekend with us. All that was based off of the first come first serve availability. Once we found our campsite we saw the site across from us (RV Site with electric and water) was available for FCFS for 2 nights. We decided to pay for this additional spot for one night. Finally we found the camp host (very rude female named Susan). She kept telling us we cannot switch sites (I was not switching sites we decided to rent an additional spot) after explaining to her I am not switching I am renting an additional site she finally let us pay for the extra site. First night my friend came out and stayed at our original reserved site that I reserved through recreation.gov but he had to leave the next day due to work. Once we woke up we decided to rent the additional site for another night as more friends wanted to come out. I was preparing to pay for the additional site ($40.00 a night) and here comes the camp host yelling at me that I forfeit my original reserved site by renting the ($40.00) camp site. I told her she was wrong because I am not forfeiting anything I am renting an additional space that was available so the campsite received my money for both sites. She continued to argue with me, was rude to my friends that arrived and wanted to pay for the over float parking as each camp site only allows you to have one vehicle per reservation. My phone reception was very poor at the campsite so I decided to drive to Waldport to get a few items from the store and to contact recreation.gov and inquire about what I was told by Susan. Recreation.gov confirmed me that I have the right to pay for multiple sites if I chose to as this is not uncommon and happens often that one person makes a reservation of multiple sites in one name for family gatherings etc. Once I returned to the camp ground the host stopped me and wanted to continue to argue with me. At that point I felt vert harassed by her and asked to speak to her supervisor (Shirley). Shirley (just as rude) kept telling me the same things Susan did. I told them I spoke to such and such at recreation.gov and she put notes on my account about my complaint and experience with the camp host and if they like they could call them to verify this. Both ladies (Susan and Shirley) work for American Land & Leisure but recreation.gov own the campsites and they just manage them. Susan continued to stop by our additional campsite multiple times and kept telling me I have to physically sleep at the site originally reserved or else I forfeit it. I politely told her I will no longer argue with her and I spoke to rec.gov and got confirmation about my situation and that she needs to stop harassing me about this. I was also advised by rec.gov to call the authority (cops) if she continues to harass me as I was not doing anything illegal. I was not staying at a site I did not payed for, I did not exceed the amount of people allowed at the campsites, we kept the campsite clean, we also fallowed the quiet hours etc. Several other campers around us heard about the incident and confirmed with us that they had some horrible experiences with the camp...
Read moreMy multiple experiences with American Land and Leisure have been horrible. They are crooks of the highest order. This last experience has led me to write this review. Let me explain. When I find the time I like to take disabled veterans (usually seniors 70+) fishing and hunting free of charge. Recently I picked up a severely handicapped Vietnam vet and drove to Strawberry Reservoir in north-central Utah.
As we pulled into the Renegade boat launch area my friend asked if I could get him set up fishing on the shore while I paid the fees and readied and launched the boat. I did so. It took about 10 minutes to get him setup in a lawn chair fishing from the shore about 200 meters away from the boat ramp. I walked back to my truck and was confronted by and extremely rude, unprofessional person named Ira (AL&L employee). She accused me of not paying and said she had taken my license number wrote me a $25 fine for not paying. I tried explain the situation and that I was on my way to pay etc etc. Her reply was essentially "..I don't care what your excuse is or who you are with." She then asked if I was a veteran to which I replied, yes (OEF 2011-2013) She then said, and I quote, "you veterans and disabled people are not special, you are just like everyone else and don't deserve special treatment". I wanted to punch her and her husband who just stood there and shrugged. Instead, I just told her I wasn't asking for special treatment. I just needed a few minutes to get things in order. She then said it was too late, she had written the ticket/fine. She then said as she walked away "since you've already received a fine feel free to use the area for today".
I literally couldn't believe it. I still can't. I was so mad I just walked back down to the shoreline and told me friend what had just transpired and he couldn't believe it. I carried him back up to my truck and we left disgusted. We drove to the Diamond Fork River and fished there. I have never been treated so poorly by anyone, let alone folks who are supposed to serve the public on public land! American Land and Leisure and their gestapo employees have no business managing public lands. You have...
Read moreThe price they and the forest service charges for a night of camping is outrageous, particularly for the level of service we get.
My biggest beef is all the a*s with generators running until all hours of the day and night. If I want to put up with that, I can just "open camp" for free. It's the same at every single campground.
And in watching these people who run their generators, it's only so they can sit in their trailers and watch TV. They're missing the entire point of being in the outdoors and ruining the experience for the rest of us.
Please, seriously consider at the VERY LEAST, instructing your camp hosts to drive around the campground in their golf carts at 10pm, the quiet time, and instruct people to turn off their generators so the rest of us can have some peace and quiet at least to sleep. I should not have to complain every single time I go out to camp. (And half the time, the hosts do not answer a 10:30-11pm door knock, if they're there at all.)
Ideally, the forest service and AL&L would just put an outright ban on generators altogether. Or even something like limiting them to certain loops of the campgrounds only. Or limiting them to being a certain decibel or lower. SOMETHING
ATVs are banned in the campgrounds for good reason. Please consider banning or regulating those loud, obnoxious generators, too. Otherwise, there is absolutely no value in visiting a campground, vs. just camping out in the open wilderness. If we have to put up with obnoxious people who do not care about their neighbors either way, why pay for a site?
I pay for these sites like anyone else. I ought to be able to enjoy some peace and quiet. Let these dolts who can't go 24-48 hours without watching TV either buy a GoalZero or camp out in the open.
But PLEASE, do something. It's every single campsite we visit, and every...
