0 star review. I’ve had 3 experiences all terrible with this place. Please read and check your stuff I’m not the only one stuck with long past expired food, low quality food, terrible customer service. I guarantee you can go in and see for yourself. This is a 0 star review not 1 it just requires one, I have never given a place 0 stars and I’ve debated on writing this for months because I don’t want anyone to not succeed. But buyers should be aware.
My first experience was back when they were in Alpine as Alpine Food Storage. I drove 60 minutes to go and I showed up 8 minutes before they opened. Being unfamiliar with the tent style store I went in, and found a kid at the desk. I asked a question about if there bananas were still available. The kid being at the desk did not bother me it was the adult who he went and got for help regarding my question. She was an absolute witch to me. She was very vocal about me showing up early and heavily chastised me. I apologized confused and after her rant that lasted until after they opened I then grabbed some bananas quickly and got in the line that had already formed. She apologized when I went to pay which I acknowledged and tried to relate to having a bad day. Didn’t say anything then because of the apology and probably never would have had the bad experience theme not continued.
The next time I went in was to get some chicken that was on sale at the PG store (Now Sage & Plow). I bought 4 boxes which was still a large sum even on sale. I was told it was really good quality and people who bought it there always complimented it by the cashier. Update: it is the most disgusting low quality chicken I have ever bought. I still have it bagged in my freezer and I’m tempted to throw it away after 3 failed attempts to cook with it. I had also heard from my friend that the boxes she got were half fat with very little chicken. Another friend said she bought on a different sale and she had the same problem as the first friend. This friend had also been told by someone who worked here that it was organic. My first red flag for buying should have been when I was told it wasn’t by the person I talked to. This is family owned so the people who run it all seem very in the loop even the cashiers so honesty is lacking. Now I’m left with a bunch of nasty chicken. so so SO disappointed.
The next time I went in was for a produce sale. I drove up to go and all of their produce was completely rotten. Which they were still selling. Even there apples were rotten. Which apples take a long while to do so. The other produce had some form of mush or mold. Not just some of their produce… ALL. I tried to find some good produce but was completely unsuccessful. I then decided to look at the dry goods section. I saw they had some healthier brand toaster pastries that I thought my kids would like that had been discounted. I grabbed a large number of boxes because they were so inexpensive and ended up spending about $15. Which you may think isn’t much to complain about. But I got out to my car and handed one to my kids and proceeded to eat the other one in the package. It was so stale and flavorless. I thought ‘maybe it’s just cause they are healthy?’ I then looked at the box and realized they had expired over a year before the day I had bought them. Who sales long past expired food and fishes you in with a discount? Apparently this place does. And I’m positive they knew it. Why else would they discount them? And sadly I failed to mention it to my sister cause she went in a few months later and had the exact same thing happen to her only she bought more than I did. Going through the review section I see similar complaints.
Also some lady in reviews said all of her packaged food was long past expired ($70 worth) she had mold growing on her toaster pastries, and she got a response from them to check the USDA safe food handling protocols because Sage and Plow claims it’s okay for them to sale. Disgusting response. She got a refund for the mold but they are still sell in bargain barn. Health food...
Read moreNot everything was past the "best by" date, honestly nothing should be, but not everything was. For a 1st time experience I was excited to see what was available. Shopping I had a cart and had with some items in it, but as we were walking from the front of the store past what was a fresh section.. produce, dairy and a empty meat cooler. I saw produce that was grey, growing mold and black...I was concerned by what I had in my cart. I looked in the cart and saw items were past the "best by" date. I know that doesn't mean its bad, it means it past it peak quality. Why would I spend money on items that are past the peak date?? Everyone has something in their pantry at home that has past the best by date..but that's from buying it and not using it in a timely manner, not from (not knowingly) purchasing it from a business at a regular and not discounted price because of it going out of date. It's one thing going to a store knowing/expecting this...they do have a bargain section that we discovered, which I'm assuming is there because of dates or over shipment..nothing we had was from this section. I've worked at and managed grocery retail for over 30 years, this was a first. 2 stars was given because the empty container selection was kind of cool...but not enough to go back. I see a lot of great reviews which is fine, but be aware best by dates are on professional packages items, the repackaged items like nuts in thin plastic bags have no dates and can easily go rancid out of refrigeration. I ended up putting my items back...
Read moreMy husband and I attended a class at Sage and Plow in American Fork. It was taught by Chirine Wadsworth. The class was about beans. Oh my goodness this was so informative, and we got to enjoy sampling 6 different recipes. They were so delicious I can’t wait to make them for my family. We tried creamy black bean salsa, Navajo beans, DIY baked beans, firehouse baked beans, humus and a rice and bean casserole. Every dish was so delicious. Chirine is an excellent cook and teacher. Her classes are always so fun and interactive. One of the nicest things about it, was we can purchase nearly every ingredient needed for the recipes at Sage & Plow. My husband and I will definitely be back to Sage & Plow for more of Chirine’s classes and other classes taught at Sage & Plow. We would give Sage & Plow and Chirine more than a 5 Star if we could. We have been purchasing food storage at Sage & Plow since they opened and find it to be an excellent place to purchase food storage items and day to day necessities, such as bread, eggs, milk, hamburger, and much more.
