Food review. Food was amazing. Small menu with the fries, sandwiches and a few other things. My husband and I ordered the small poutine with an egg and duck confit. Wow, this was amazing. One of the best things I've tasted. I then ordered the smoked brisket sandwich and my husband ordered the smoked turkey. Each sandwich tasted amazing. Truly the smokiness of the brisket was out of this world. Then the turkey was also smokey but had a great fresh bright taste because of the lemon. All in all despite my issues in the below part of my review I had to give it a 4. I will definitely come back when in Portland. Revising my below review: My husband and I attempted to go to Duckfat the day after my below review. My husband placed his name and cell phone # on their list and we were told it was a 45min-1 hr wait. We walked over to a neighboring bar and got drinks while we waited . Once we hit 40 mins we were a bit antsy. At this point there were other patrons sitting near us that were also waiting to be called. At about the 1 hour mark one of those groups mentioned that their table was ready and my husband and I were really confused as it was 4 of them and a dog and they got their table before the 2 of us. My husband called the restaurant and they asked for his name and number and they remarked that they did have his # but didn't have his name and they couldn't explain why at least 3 (according to the man on the phone) had been called but not us. He told us to come right over and they would sit us right away. We walked the 2 mins to the restaurant and had to find wave down the host and let him know we just talked with him we had 2 seats inside at the bar in 3 mins. This was quite an annoying experience but we tried to be understanding. ****************** Old review: Tried to have dinner. The hostess let the 2 couples in before us but when we stepped to the podium she told us that the wait was now too long and they were sitting no one else. There was an empty table right next to me. There was still an hour before close.

I think this place is a bit overhyped. After reading all of the great reviews, especially on the poutine, it was definitely a spot I wanted to check out while in Portland. We had a party of five but my friend went to go put down her name first and we would meet her there later. They quoted her about a 40 minute wait on a Sunday at around 7. When we met up, they told us it would be another 30-40 minutes, which was annoying but ok fine - we just grabbed a drink next door. Finally, our buzzer went off and we weren't seated until almost 8:30. To start, we ordered the Shishito Peppers (fried garlic · Korean chilli powder · ginger mustard aioli). You know sometimes, the basic dishes are the best dishes. These were cooked perfectly and I the enjoyed the Korean chili powder dusted over it, especially combined with the aioli Next, we shared a large poutine (Belgian fries topped with cheese curd, duck gravy & fresh chives) and added the duck egg + duck confit. The gravy was nice (good flavor and consistency) and it was the perfect amount for the amount of fries it was served with - enough to coat most of the fries, yet the fries are not drowning in it. I wish it had more cheese curds though. But then again, I always wish things had more cheese curds. We ended up getting another order of this For mains, I had some kind of lobster grilled cheese panini, which was one of their specials for the night. It was fine, nothing to write home about. I think it was because I wasn't a huge fan of the bread and the bread can really make or break your sandwich. It was thick and chewy, and just not something you'd expect for a panini. My fiance had the house Smoked Brisket Panini (vegetable chow chow, cheddar, BBQ sauce). The brisket was dry and the BBQ sauce was overpowering - almost like they were trying to use it to negate the dryness, but it didn't work too well To finish off, we shared an order of the Doughnut Holes (duck fat-fried & citrus scented, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, served with duck fat caramel dipping sauce). These were not bad but I'm biased since I don't have a big sweet tooth. If it were up to me, I probably would have just gotten another order of fries for dessert Overall, everything was just okay. It was definitely not worth the 1.5 hour wait in my opinion. If you're just looking for their fries, which seems like their best-seller, you're probably better off just heading over to their frites shack.

Pretty solid spot 4.5 stars. (Took 1/2 star since the seats were not comfortable for sitting long. You basically eat and not linger. Smart move Duck Fat) Last dinner for our Portland vacation had to be with Duck fat fries and Donuts. We arrived around 7pm and was given the last 2 seats at the counter table and got end seats which was great since we had visited the Shipyard Brewery up the street before dinner and did some shopping. There is a space where we could put our bags out of the way. Shout out to our server, Owen. Great service, great attitude. Friendly and accommodating, giving recommendations when asked and checking in on us in appropriate times even though he was taking care of the whole dining room. He made our last meal in ME enjoyable after all day of site seeing and my mini food tour of eating (check out those reviews). Tell him I'd sent you! We ordered the Large Fries with Garlic Mayo and Horseradish Sauce. The fries came out hot, salted and addicting. The sauce of the day was curry mayo but took a pass on it. Out of the 2 sauces, the garlic mayo was the winner. We wash down these decadent fries with coffee (they serve Speckled Ax) and freshed squeezed OJ. Next came out was the Donuts with Duck Fat Caramel Sauce. These were amazing and slight hint of citrus cuts the richness. Also very addictive when you bite into a nice warm donut hole with a crispy shell encasing a soft, melt in your mouth interior. As full as we were from a day of visiting lots of food spots, I didn't want to miss out on these fries that I've been wanting to try since they opened. Definitely, did not disappoint. Do yourself a favor go to this location get the fries AND donuts plus having Owen take care of you is the cherry on top! I can't wait to return to Portland just for this meal again.

We visited Portland from Quebec, Canada and decided to grab a bite at Duckfat as we were told it was a must-try. The wait time was around an hour. We didn’t mind it as it allowed us to walk around the city in the mean time. Since we didn’t have an American phone plan, they simply handed us a buzzer to notify us when our seats were ready. Our server Hannah was welcoming and open to our questions. She helped us decide what to order by recommending us a few meals, and thanks to her, we had a good time. The food was incredible! We had ordered a salmon dip and large fries as entrées, accompanied with the truffle ketchup and the avocado lime sauces. The sauces looked unassuming but were full of flavour! We had also ordered a blueberry milkshake and a Creamsicle craft soda. Hands down the best milkshake we’ve ever had, and the soda was perfect for the hot and humid weather. For the main course, I had ordered the Duckfat grilled cheese, my partner ordered the Montreal Reuben and we ordered a small poutine to share. As Quebecers, we had low expectations for the poutine as we’ve rarely encountered a decent poutine outside of the province. And so, we were amazed with how good this one was! The poutine was toppled with a generous amount of gravy and the fries were crispy. We only wished there was more cheese. Regardless of that, the meal really captured the essence of what a poutine is, and we would definitely recommend it! Overall, we loved our experience here and will definitely come back to try their other milkshake flavours!

Dinner on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. Only waited about an hour. Started with the kolji limeade and that's so refreshing I'm hoping for 2 more months of summer. Appetizer of Spanish tin fish on sourdough. It's good. A crusty hearty sourdough toast with some very well seasoned sardines. A great starter balanced with my slightly sour beer. It's a pretty savory dish but not too heavy. Couldn't pass up the fries and sauce flight. Fries are a little light for me but as a vehicle for sauce they're great. Not too greasy but well seasoned. I'd rate the sauces as 1) truffle ketchup, 2) garlic, 3) atomic horseradish, 4) chipotle and 5) Thai. You should try them and see how you rate them. The chipotle hits you late so if you don't like spicy go easy. Moved on to the lobster roll and Montreal Ruben. The lobster roll isn't what I expected from the milk bread to how light the lobster feels. It's quite a departure from the standard and absolutely crushed it. Definitely a highlight dish. The Ruben was a bit of a twist also. I found the cibatta to be the perfect choice. So deep and savory with the smoky meat, the crisp snap of the roll and the cheese just melting together to be perfect. I didn't get much thousand Island but it was such a hit for me I traded my lobster roll across the table. Seating is kinda tight but it's fine. Service is nice and fast. Can't complain about anything. One of my favorite places in Portland.
